Happy 4th of July

Everybuddy has a different definition of Patriotic, which is this week’s theme in the 52 Snapshots of Life Photo Challenge. This is hosted by The Lazy Pit bull and can be entered by anyone with a social media account using the hashtags #52Snapshots or #TLPB, They don’t discriminate if you don’t have a blog.

For Gramps, Patriotic meant enlisting in the Army Air Force during WWII. For TW, it was protesting against the Vietnam war in the early 1970s. For me, it’s red, white and blue shmousy toys.

The peeps thought they had it made every July 4th. They used to watch the Macy’s fireworks from our courtyard. They didn’t have to go into the city or elbow their way through crowds. Only people who live in our complex could partake. A few years ago, the new mayor in NYC, decided to switch the fireworks from the Hudson River to the East River. Sadly, the peeps’ free show was cancelled.

Don’t cry for us IkeandTina Argentina cos we see plenty of patriotic fireworks all year around. Just last weekend there was fireworks for Gay Pride Day. We also saw fireworks for Chinese New Year, the NYC Marathon and lots of other events. Still to come is the Shakespeare in the Park and New Year’s Eve displays plus many others. It seems they’re always celebrating something noisy with gorgeous fireworks in NYC.

There’s nothing more patriotic than watching the 4th of July fireworks with the Empire State Building flashing red, white and blue in the background. The sight is enough to bring goosebumps. TW’s cheap little click and shoot doesn’t do fireworks but you can pretend that those really look like fireworks.

TW even dresses up the table for July 4th with special place mats and plates to make it look patriotic. Of course, there’s nothing edible on that plate for The Cat. Yuck! What is that slop? Where are the hot dogs? The bacon?

Now permit me to do a patriotic switcheroo and participate in the Caturday Art Blog Hop hosted by Athena and Marie from across the pond. I created this in Pizap since TW couldn’t come up with anything that met with my approval in Photoshop.

Enjoy your 4th of July picnics, stay away from fireworks and enjoy your freedoms. Most of all follow the lead of our forefathers and don’t ever vote against your best interests.

How did you guys spend your July 4th? I hope it wasn’t spent hiding UTB.

  1. What is that - a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich? That may not make me hungry, but my human wants some!

  6. Happy 4th! When we moved here we found that we could see several fireworks displays all far enough away to be fairly quiet. We even get to see the State Fairgrounds show. Quietly.

  13. Happy 4th of July CK. There will be no fireworks here this year. They are banned because it is too dry. I can't say I'm unhappy 'cause I hate them. Crazy people shooting them off at all hours scaring the goats. I hope you, TW and Pop have a great weekend

  29. Wow, you've got so many different mice?? Our Mom is so stinky, she doesn't buy us several toys. Hmpf. Our national colors would be white and blue, so we think we should get at least 2. But... Mom has taken us abroad, and we're staying in Germany over the summer. The German flag has 3 colors, black, red and gold, so we think she should buy us 3 mice as well!

Thank you for coming over, we've somehow missed your blog until now!
