Birthday Balloons and Wishes

Today is TW’s hunnert and first birthday. She’s not celebrating and would rather forget it cos she says at her age, you don’t get gifts you just get older. She’s not down with getting older. Since money is tight, the peeps don’t exchange gifts anymore. Tomorrow she’ll have lunch with her BFF—my Aunt Pauline—and they’ll exchange gifts. Aunt Pauline’s birthday was last Sunday.

A few years ago after dinner on her birthday, TW was throwing the trash in the Refuse Room. As she opened the door, a mess of birthday balloons came floating out and hit her in the face. They made her day cos they were a total surprise. As it turned out they weren’t planted by Pop as she thought; they were put in there by someone else who had a birthday and didn’t appreciate them. She certainly appreciated them. I was fascinated by the balloons having never seen anything like them before.

To “celebrate,” we’re given the local TNR—Union City Feral Cat Committee—over a hunnert pounds of litter for their holding truck plus some kitty (and woofie) treats. I thought we’d throw in the dog food too since the other rescue never picked it up. They do pawsome work for the feral cats in our community.

I have to embarrass TW so I’m pulling out a really old foto from the archives. It’s a small wonder it hasn’t biodegraded. That’s a toy cat she’s got there. Hard to believe she was a sticky little human once.
