Tuxies are stunning! |
Tomorrow is National Black Cat Day. What's up with that? Does it seem to you that there are about seven days each year honoring black cats? Dunno who declared this but I say no fair to those of us cats who have different color furs and markings. When I look through the CB weekly planner, I see lots of black cats and tabbies but few tuxies and torties.
Right off the top of my head I can tell you that August 17 is Black Cat Appreciation Day, October 27 is Black Cat Day and November 17 is National Black Cat Day and I guarantee there's prolly an International Black Cat Day too. All these days and apparently black cats still aren't being adopted. What's up with that? Perhaps those days are just for show and aren't helping at all. I understand that #BlackCatsMatter but so do tuxies and torties and tabbies; white cats, calicos and even orange cats matter.
I have nothing against black cats. Some of my best furrends are black cats but let's be fair to the rest of us. I'm from the ghetto; my heart bleeds black cat so don't get me wrong. All I'm saying is give tuxies a chance.
Trying to make myself look like a black panfur. |
Let me tell you I sat at the shelter for a good long time before the peeps bailed me out; the same with my tuxie furrends Mario and Savannah. Right now it's hard for any adult cat to get adopted. People constantly pass us over for cute little kittens. This brings me to the fact that November is Adopt-A-Senior-Cat Month. Senior cats make pawsome additions to any family. I was about seven months old when I went home with the peeps. While I know that's not old, if the peeps hadn't seen me on Petfinder.com, they might have brought home 10-year-old Gunther who Pop couldn't stop admiring.
For over six months, my BFGF Savannah has been waging a campaign to get pretty tuxie Momma Kat adopted. You can read her story and see her Hope Chest over on Savannah Paw Tracks. If you're innerested in adopting, fostering or spreading the word, here is her Petfinder page.
Tuxie Tuesday should not be mistaken as a true tuxie holiday. In 2011 someone actually tried starting a Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day on September 9, but, apparently, it died a very quick and quiet death.
In honor of National Tuxedo Cat Day, National Black Cat Day and Adopt-a-Senior-Cat Month, here are a few tuxies, black cats and senior cats waiting for their furever homes. If TW did this correctly, clicking on the image will bring you to their petfinder profiles. In a perfect world, they would all be the same size, but I'm dealing with TW here.
I hereby declare my Gotcha Day January 29 as Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day. Today we can have a preview of it or maybe a National Tuxedo Cat Day. As my furrend tabby cat Brian would say "Adopt Cats. We Deserve It." How are you going to celebrate National Tuxedo Cat Day today?
Harry the Farm cat is very happy he landed here on the farm. He really didn't have a choice since he was picked up in the street but it did work out well for him
ReplyDeleteWell, if I am strictly fair and impartial, I think all the days should be Black Cat Days, and the Human says around here EVERY day already *is* Black Cat Appreciation Day but I can tell she's almost being sarcastic--almost.
ReplyDeleteBut I think everykitty should get 'dopted and have a good home. Even the calicos and the Meezers and the ornj ones and the Tuxies too. XOXOXOXO
I didn't realize black cats had so many days! And yeah, tuxie cats should have their own day too. I can say for sure there won't ever be a Somali cat day, but I don't mind - you guys deserve the added attention.
ReplyDeleteOh, sweetie, we appreciate every kind of cat every day, but I think you are right to bring a tuxie day into the world, CK...do you think I can join for that too? Good Luck Pawkisses for the new event :) <3
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree that you should have your very own day! I will be back to celebrate National Tuxedo Day with you on your Gotcha Day in January!
ReplyDeleteDragonheart is a tuxie, one of the patterns that is actually easy to recognize on Sphynx! It is sad that so many adult cats get passed over for adoption. Devi was an adult rescue.
ReplyDeleteTuxedos definitely need their own day!
Excellent post CK. Simply excellent. Of course I will join you in January for National Tuxedo Day as January is my Gotcha Day too!! Many paw hugs for promoting Momma Kat. And yes, she is a black and white tuxie and "plain" for most humans. Then add the fact that she is also very shy and unsure of humans intentions. She breaks Mom L's heart to see her so scared. paw waves, your BFGF
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, CK. I think January 29 as Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day would be awesome! Although we don't have any tuxies here, we'd celebrate that day with you for sure!
ReplyDeleteWe are boggled as to how all tuxies don't have forever homes. Just look at a tuxie cat, any tuxie cat. Really look at it. There, now explain to us how any tuxies are out there on the streets or waiting in a shelter? *mind boggles further*
ReplyDeleteYour birthday In January is a great time to start Tuxie Appreciation Day. Siamese don't have a day.....oh sure one national meezer day. We live in Canada and are not part of your nation.
ReplyDeleteShoko
I thought EVERY day was Tuxie Day. ; )
ReplyDeleteKatie
CK... you are looking particularly stunning in your photos today! Especially that first photo! TW did an awesome job of capturing your stunningness.

ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaaw CK We adore you. Even tho' ya' didn't mention pointed or bicolor cats. MOL Dat's okay, mommy says every day is All Cat purreciation day, and wishes da world could unnerstand how amazin' us kitties are. We sure are purrayin' all those kitties get adopted soon to pawsum furever homes.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi and Raena
Hey! what do you mean, "and even orange cats matter". I think there should be an orange cat day too. Of course I agree with you that all cats matter.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! Some of us kitties are just ignored. Mommy is always saying how impossible it is to find torties on mugs, ornaments, and other kitty kitsch. I'll support 1/29 as Tuxedo Cat Day...how about my Gotcha Day of 8/9 as Tortie Day??? --Mudpie
ReplyDeleteIt is strange that we have so many days for black cats. They are totally pawsome, but so are other color kitties. Tuxies and torties are gorgeous! Of course, since Manna and Dexter are both tabbies, I'm a bit partial to tabbies. You definitely deserve a stunning kitty day!
ReplyDelete-Purrs from your friends at www.PlayfulKitty.net
CK you are the best. Thank you for being such a gracious donor to Momma Kat those are pretty cool things to donate - we know that.
ReplyDeleteI think we need a Worldwide Tuxie Day, I have been thrown into utter confusion by having DONE one Black Cat blog post only to find there is a SECOND Black Cat day. WTH??
All our best,
Dusty Cat
I feel so bad for MommaKat, I wish I could adopt her. I hope she gets the loving home she deserves soon. Snowball and KaTwo were in the shelter for 2 years before I adopted them.
ReplyDeleteCK, I wondered about all the Black Cat days too...and I'm black! You are a fine example of a tuxie cat and you deserve your day. We sure think there should be a senior cat appreciation day...or even month! ~Ernie
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was wondering about all those black cat days, too, CK! Gracie and Zoe are cool with it, of course, but hey, let's make sure tuxies get their props, too! Represent!
ReplyDeleteJust stopping in to plant a big smoochie on you. SMWAK XOXOXO
ReplyDeleteSurely the other 364 days of the year are dedicated to Tuxies ♥
ReplyDeleteTuxedo cats are wonderful and you are stunning, CK! That first photo is so adorable :-) All the cats, with any color, are beautiful and purrfect xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a poignant post, CK! You are such a wise and thoughtful lady. Our housemate Toby is just barely a tuxedo, with mostly black, so we never know for certain how to classify him. But, we'll certainly be appreciating him, you, and all tuxies! And all kitties! Purrs to you, CK!
ReplyDeleteYou do tuxies proud, CK! You are all dressed to the nines with no place to go ... stunning is the LEAST of it. You ARE pretty adorable though ...
ReplyDeleteMommy is a sucker for a tuxie cat! She says they is her FAVORITE...this makes mes a tad miffed as mes is a GORGEOUS siamese, but mes must say mes too is partial to a handsome tuxie or back cat! So grrl furrend mes will declare that wes should makes YOUR birthday INTERNATIONAL Tuxedo Cat Day (or purrhaps Kozmo's, his is September 23rd)
ReplyDeleteKisses
Nellie
You should totally do a tuxedo cat day! Both Jasper and Maggie would joint in!
