Hamburger With A Side of Olivia

I’m gonna talk about a serious topic today.

H is for all sorts of stuff, from the good (ham) to the not-no-good (hairballs). Recently I had a few problems with the latter so H will be for Hairballs. A week or so ago, I had an episode where I coughed and coughed and hu-wacked like I was desperately trying to rid myself of an evil hairball. Just to be on the safe side, TW gave me a spritz with the inhaler. After consulting with my medical support staff on FB, it was decided that we should take a wait and see approach. I was eating well, playing hard and doing the two p-words in my box.

Last Friday, it happened and I announced it on FB! "It’s a mess! CK is proud to announce the birth of a medium-size hairball on the rug near my litter box. Dunno if this is the one from earlier this month but it came out fairly easy. CK ate a little and is resting somewhat comfortably.” Those couple of sentences were met with some fun comment—everything from axing if I had named it and if it was a boy or girl to if I was gonna breast feed it. MOL! Sorry, there were no photos of the “little one." Bet you’re relieved.

This is about where the blessed event took place.

Each day during the Blogging From A to Z Challenge, I’m featuring an adoptable cat. Do you volunteer at a shelter and want one or more of your cats featured? Contact me by email (stunningkeisha (at) hotmail (dot) com) or on FB or Twitter. Today’s featured cat says H is for Hamburger and I gotta agree.

“Yes, the name is Hamburger, and I am a classic tabby fellow who purrs contentedly, hoping that you’ll pet me. Feel my handsome stripes, feel the soft rumble of my Big Cat Self. I have a big heart and a warm soul. Also, I confess, I became homeless and joined a colony of feral cats—for companionship and protection. Now, I’m no feral fellow. I purr and I cuddle and I follow people when they walk by. But, from someone in my little gang, I did pick up the FIV. I’m healthy and happy, but I do need to take care of myself—and not get into tussles with felines who haven’t picked it up.”

“I never was much of a tussler, anyway—much more a lover. I’m as handsome as handsome can be, full tabby marks and firm tabby feet. I’m a pretty serious guy. I think a lot, and I look up at people when I’m thinking so as to ask,’So, what do you think?’ That’s when you’ll notice my opalescent eyes that clearly say, ‘Yes, I have a handsome tabby mind, too.’”

“You might want to hug me. I might hug you back. I might say, ‘Mow-ow, mow,’ and then settle in for my nap. What I’m really hoping is that you might want to adopt me and take me to your place and hug and cuddle and take another nap. I am Hamburger. I am comfortable, comforting, and cuddly. For only $120, you’ll have the warmest winter hugging cat you’ll ever find. Guess who—Me!”

"If you'd like to know more about me, just stop in at the Adoption Center to meet me or leave a message for my human assistant at 651-642-5900 ext. 3. She'll call you back.”

It would be nice if Hamburger was adopted with his special ladycat, Olivia Benson. Both Hamburger and Olivia are FIV+. Please note that FIV is nothing to fear. FIV+ cats can live with non-FIV cats without fear of contamination. He is safe around other cats (as long as they have a peaceful relationship). The only way this virus is transmitted is through a bite that breaks the skin. He cannot infect another cat through daily contact or saliva (from licking or drinking from the same water bowl).

  1. Hamburger is a very handsome boy. I'm very glad you are not still having hairball issues.

  2. My human is hoping that Smokey will adjust soon to being here and not be so skittish because she needs hairball meds (she has a history of hairballs with all that long fur), and right now my human can't give them to her because she hides so much.

  4. I hope big cuddly Hamburger and his lady friend Olivia get a home together.
I am glad you got rid of that evil old hairball. I very rarely get them, or if I do they are very small. Eric used to get big sausage ones and leave them beside the bed for mum to step on when she got up in the mornings.

  18. You know, my Human is wondering about me. I was off my food for a day or two last week, and on one day I was horkin' and horkin' with no result. Now I seem fine but no hairball? Maybe she's got something to look forward to in a couple days, MOL!!!
