The Cat Days of Summer #MusicMonday

Hola kitties! Did you know about the Cat Days of Summer? Does anyone really know when these dog cat days are? Some say they are the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, which coincide with the dawn rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. TW always taught me they run from the day before her birthday to Gramma's birthday—July 12 to August 20—which around here are the hottest days of the summer. Why am I telling you all this?

The Cat Days of Summer #MusicMonday

This week's music prompt is "Songs about dogs (or any pets) in honor of the end of the Dog Days of Summer." I'm glad the prompter, John from The Sound of One Hand Typing, added "or other pets" since at least three of the blogs who participate in the Music Moves Me blog hop which is also known as "Mewsic Moves Me" are cat blogs. I don't see dog bloggers participating.

I've put together a playlist of cat songs with one lone dog song. Heh heh. Dunno why I didn't have one of begin with. Oh yeah. I did until GrooveShark closed down. The lists is in no particular order but a good part of it are rockabilly songs since they're a bunch of hep cats. All songs except one are from our iTunes. The set starts with some rockabilly, then some bands with "cat" in their names and ends on a miscellaneous note. Put on your blue suede shoes and prepare to rock!

Levi Dexter & the Ripchords—"Catfight"
Robert Gordon—"The Catman"
Carl Perkins—"Put Your Cat Clothes On"
Stray Cats—"Stray Cat Strut"
Rockats—"Go Cat Wild"
Joe Jackson—"We the Cats (Shall Hep Ya)"
Kilkenny Cats—"Shakin' in the 60s"
Scruffy the Cat—"Blue Russian" Had to include this one. I'm part Russian Blue.
Scruffy the Cat—"Tiger Tiger" Scruffy hails from Bahston.
Syd Barrett—"Lucifer Sam" Love this vid about Sam the Siamese.
Squeeze—"Cool for Cats"
Mike Mills & Peter Buck—"The Ballad of Cat Ballou" HAH! I got some R.E.M. in here.
Gary Numan—"She's Got Claws" I've got sharp teeth and claws and I know no fear.
iAmMoshow—"CatNip" Cat loving rap.
Gloria Balsam_"Fluffy" Dr. Demento discovered her. Don't blame me.
Tina Pell—"Fifi Goes Pop" My one dog song. Don't try this at home.

Hope y'all enjoyed this edition of The Stunning Keisha Show starring DJ CK. I 'pologize if TW mucked up the order of the songs. I made her change it so many times. I'm participating in the #4M Music Moves Me blog hop co-hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others.

  11. Hey y'all,

Very clever switch-a-roo! I should've figured you of all would be the little rebel but that's alright because as you know most of my past pets were kitties. I like your post title -groovy job and your playlist -pAwesome!

You introduced a lot of new song titles to me. The only songs I knew from your set is 'Stray Cat Strut and The Ballad of Cat Ballou. 'The Catman' put a smile on my face because DH's uncle often would say to him or whoever, 'What's up Catman?' I wonder if it has something to do with this song or it was just an expression from his younger years.

Thanks for joining the 4M gang on the dance floor with such fun song picks. Have a boogietastic week!

I don't often listen to Rockabilly, but when I do I enjoy it.
