Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 2019

Hola kitties! It's a happy/sad day for the Cat Blogosphere. It's Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. Sad cos we remember the cats who came before and happy because we remember the cats who came before. We remember the good times and the laughs and love they brought into our homes. TW has been thinking a lot about cats past. She's sad that she doesn't remember the dates they ran off to the Rainbow Bridge but happy that she has this day to remember them.

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 2019

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day was founded in 2015 by Deborah Barnes, award-winning author and blogger of Zee & Zoey’s Cat Chronicles in tribute to her Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz, who she had to say goodbye to on August 28, 2013. She shared the journey of letting him go in her critically acclaimed book, Purr Prints of the Heart – A Cat’s Tale of Life, Death, and Beyond and decided to create the day in his honor as a way for others across the world to share memories of their own pets they had loved and lost.

First came Faith. We apologize that we only have old Polaroids of her so the quality isn't too good. Faith was a teeny tiny kitten when she "followed TW home." Actually she went to a neighbor's house looking for a kitty unbeknownst to Gramma. Faith could fit in the palm of one hand. Luckily Gramma took one look at the widdle pink nose and fell in love. No one knew anything about caring for a kitten but somehow they all survived and Faith lived to see her 16th birthday. Her nickname was Eddy as in Faith E. Gurl. She looks big on top of Raggedy Ann but she was never more than 7 lbs. TW thought she was part Abyssinian because of her small size, ruddy color and large ears. You can read Faith's complete story here.

"No more cats," Gramma said after the painful loss of Faith. They were very close. Then Tymmy aka Chizzy was born on the front porch. She fell in love again. Chizzy had a personality feral streak a bit like mine and would bite and attack her. Grampa loved Chizzy who grew to be 25 lbs. As you can see, he had a bit of a cauliflower ear after several bouts with hematomas. Even though he attacked Gramma, TW could fall asleep with her arm around him and he wouldn't bite her. I guess he really was a wimp.

Autumn was Gramma's cat all the way—except when she became Pop's cat. {{hiss}} She was adopted after both Grampa and Chizzy went to the RB and she was sweetest little kitty even though she was one toe short of a full deck. Heh heh. She and Gramma had the romance of the ages. So dedicated was she that she wouldn't even leave Gramma's side after Gramma passed. You can read more about her in last year's post.

As much as TW loved cats, she didn't want to be owned by one. She didn't want some cat to use the spines of her rare records as a scratching post. HAH! She needed to do some growing up. Once Nicky became part of their home, he became her "snuggle bunny" cat who only shredded the arms of the chairs and left the records alone. Nicky slept on her legs every night and was her heart cat. He was 22 1/2 lbs of love. Unfortunately he was only nine years old when he tragically ran off to the RB on August 13, 2005 about a week after Autumn. I remembered Nicky in 2017.

Thank you for joining us as we remember the cats who came before me. Tell me about the cats who came before you in the comments if you don't have a blog.

  10. Beautiful post remembering all these sweet angels. I can't believe TW was ever afraid to have a cat because it would ruin her records. XO
