Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day was founded in 2015 by Deborah Barnes, award-winning author and blogger of Zee & Zoey’s Cat Chronicles in tribute to her Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz, who she had to say goodbye to on August 28, 2013. She shared the journey of letting him go in her critically acclaimed book, Purr Prints of the Heart – A Cat’s Tale of Life, Death, and Beyond and decided to create the day in his honor as a way for others across the world to share memories of their own pets they had loved and lost.
TW wishes to honor and remember her Cuddle Bunny of a cat aka Pop's Ruggedly Handsome Big Beautiful Boy aka Nicky. When he left, he took a big chunk of TW's heart. She'd love to remember how he slept on her leg every night but as tears fill her eyes, all she can remember are those screams in the cab the night they rushed him to the ER vet. With heavy hearts, they let him run to the RB rather than have him suffer further.
Nicky on the lounger in the back yard. |
She wants to remember:
The Nicky they found on the porch one night with the deep-throated meow.
The Nicky who cost a small fortune to neuter cos his testicles weren't descended.
The Nicky who laid on her belly and rocked in the hammock with her.
The little guy she nicknamed Nick-mouse who never bit or scratched her.
The Nicky who would sit next to her to watch both baseball games and figure skating.
The Nicky who liked a little bit of Lactaid milk before bed.
The Nicky who loved her as much as she loved him
He's hiding in TW's comforter. |
Stop right there! I hope you're not getting as sick as I am with the direction this post is heading. It's time I took complete control again.
Back in May, the human to my homey Maggie from Life Through Science with Maggie T. Kat was at BlogPaws with materials to make honor flags. The tradition is based on Tibetan Prayer Flags, which are hung high in the mountains. Winds pick up the flags’ good wishes and spread those wishes as far as the wind can take them. Even though she's not a DIY crafts person which is easy to see, I ordered her to make a few flags—one for Buzz Lucas and flags for Nellie and Flynn. She did a crappy job but I guess it's the thought the counts.
Lastly, I'd like to remember all my anipal furrends who have taken the journey to the Rainbow Bridge by sharing an image by Jodie Rosenthal.
TW took this picture last month from our courtyard. The rainbow stretched across the sky and this portion was peeking out high among the clouds. No filter was used but the colors are breathtaking.
What an amazing tribute CK!thank you for including the #Abgelgang♡♡♡♡

CK, this is a beautiful post. We can tell how much Nicky meant to TW and we're glad you let her hijack the post...at least some of it...to tell us about him. Purrs....
ReplyDeletePurrs to TW remembering her precious Nicky. I feel the pain-even with overflowing happy memories, it's impossible to wipe out the painful moments from our heads.
ReplyDeleteLove those flags and the photo of rainbow is beautiful. xo
What a lovely tribute post. We know it's hard to bring up memories of Nicky, but we do like hearing about this very special kitty. We also love the Honor Flags - our human made one at BlogPaws for Jazz and she was overwhelmed by all the beautiful flags she saw created. Purrs from Deb, the Zee/Zoey gang, and Purr Prints of the Heart.
ReplyDeleteObviously, Angel Nicky was greatly loved while here on Earth.
ReplyDeleteThat was a beautiful post. It is so wonderful to remember but today my heart hurts for so many.
ReplyDeleteNicky sounds like a superb feline and friend. We think the honor flags look great, and what a beautiful rainbow photo--it makes us think of all the furry friends who have crossed the bridge.
ReplyDeleteOh CK!!! This post is BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!! Your rainbow photo is so magical, I am so happy you took a photo of it. That painting of all of the anipals is just incredible too. Nicky sounds like my Angel Bobo, sending you (((hugs))) and love as you remember catchatwithcarenandcody
ReplyDeleteC.K., this is a beautiful and heartfelt post. The graphic with all the kitties and pups is absolutely amazing. And what a beautiful remembrance of Nicky as well. Do not be too hard on TW for her "lack" of crafting skills. We think her flags are beautiful . Our mom made one for Fiona and one for Sammy. She didn't think her work would win any medals, but remember, it is the thought and love that our humans put into those flags. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute from the heart. Pet loss unites us. xo
ReplyDeletewonderful remembrances of Nicky and the rainbow is beyond gorgeous. Great photo
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Pricilla. She was a furrend too
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely post. We're sending purrs to everyone today.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad TW was finally able to write about Nicky. It really does help to "get it out". Those screams can never be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to Nicky! Hope your human is feeling ok--it can be hard to remember
ReplyDeleteThis was a beautiful post for Remembrance Day. Nicky was a handsome boy. I love the flag idea and the collage of angels is amazing. XO
ReplyDeleteCK, this post is as stunning as you. You honor so many sweet angels here. Purrs and prayers to you and your peeps as you all remember Nicky and all of the angels.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a wonderful tribute to those that have gone to the Bridge. Fond memories are what we all have to drive away the pain of our losses, so it is better to celebrate than morn.... The honour flags at BlogPaws were a wonderful way to remember our friends...
ReplyDeleteGentle purrs

Dear Ms CK, Your poignant words about Nicky tell me the true extent of your pawrents love for the cat who came before. You are a true Queen!
ReplyDeleteAnd I wish to thank you for including my special Rainbow furrend, Queen Penelope who found me my home in Canada with her Mommy who is now my Mommy (I do believe that Nicky must have had a paw in yours). The Honor Flag at Blog Paws has meant so much to my Mommy.
And Ms CK, I think you are are truly wonderful!

Marvelous
What TW shared is beautiful and from the heart. Nicky sounds like one-of-a-kind. So many people assume that to get over one cat, all you have to do is get another. Nothing could be farther from the truth ... each cat has a unique set of quirks and traits. No matter how much you look, you can never find the same combination. I imagine it's been a bit of adjustment for TW to go from Nicky to you, CK. I had the change in reverse. Kitty wasn't snuggly at all - and all of a sudden, I had Bear Cat who had to be ON me ALL THE TIME. He's gotten a bit more bite-y over the years ... but at first, it was a huge adjustment. It's funny that now I don't sleep as well without him there. Neither Kitty nor Bear are better - they are just different. I know TW loves you to pieces (umm ... HER pieces ... not yours ... obviously), CK.
ReplyDeleteNicky seems like such a great little kitty. Thank you for sharing this rememberance post.
ReplyDeleteNicky was truly a special cat and your Mum did a great tribute post.
ReplyDeleteThank you CK and Mom.
What a very nice post about Nicky. Hugs to TW.
ReplyDeleteNicky was very special. This is such a lovely post of Remembrance. Please thank TW once again for the lovely Honor Flag she made for Flynn and Nellie. I really do appreciate it.
