My senile, old peeps have a combined collection of over 1500 vinyl lps (long-playing records) and at least just as many 45s and that's after throwing out half of their collection when they moved into the condo.
FACT: The first 45 TW owned was "This Diamond Ring" by Gary Lewis & the Playboys and the first lp was the Beatles' "Hard's Days Night."
FACT: TW used to put aside $20 from each paycheck to buy albums which went further than you'd think with Discomat selling them at $5 a pop.
FACT: When TW's musical tastes outgrew Discomat, she bought her records in the Village at Subterranean and Venus Records where her friends Michael and Scott would give her big discounts. Her friends at Pier Platters in Hoboken would also give her good deals.
FACT: Pop was once the Music Director and a real DJ for an NYC radio station. He took care of the record library and made sure they received all the new releases.
FACT: Sony Music will start pressing vinyl records again in March of next year after 30 years. People are buying vinyl again and it's sales are rising every year.

We did this one for a photo challenge we started at the beginning of the year and then the themes got too intense for TW's little brain. This theme was—ta daaa—Out of Focus.
So time to buy a turntable and enjoy the pops and scratches that make vinyl records such a unique experience that is still loved by so many including the two old timers that live here.
Crockett's daddy has tons of vinyl - of course he has tons of everything related to music and speakers.
ReplyDeleteMy human only has a handful of vinyl - she used to have lots more but it was stolen and sold by a drug addict ex-boyfriend almost 25 years ago.

ReplyDeleteWe have lots of vinyl and still have a turntable, so we often play them. Here in the U.K. Sainsbury's supermarket has got a vinyl stand again. Love the covers CK

I used to have a HUGE collection (not as big as yours because I didn't have 45's, and I didn't have as many albums...but..........I had a TON of albums starting in the 60s.), well, my ex husband DJ'd weddings and parties.......when we got divorced (amicably), guess what I did? I let him have my ENTIRE COLLECTION!! What a jackass I was! I could kick myself because they are worth moolah now. Oh well, live and learn! catchatwithcarenandcody

ReplyDeleteI have to laugh because the first thing that came to mind when I saw your picture was Aunt Jemima! Interesting info about your album collection. The worst part about albums is how heavy they are, especially when you're talking hundreds. I remember my parents had some 75rpm albums and they were really thick and heavy. I like your Blue album.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool! My parents still have their old turntable and tons of old country music records (which I remember listening to as a little girl!) Last Christmas I saw some new vinyl in the store and I couldn't believe how expensive they were...around $30!
