John from Driller's Place again picked the prompt which is music by your favorite America Idol or The Voice contestants. Como? No comprendé. TW and I don't watch tv so we gonna have to interpret this in our own way; play it by ear. Since I know of anyone named American Idol, I'm gonna feature the music of Billy Idol who was never an American Idol. Close enough—am I right?
In 1976, the early days of the punk movement in the UK, 21-year-old William Broad who later took the name Billy Idol formed Generation X aka Gen X.
Thankfully, not much can get TW dancing these days but this song by Billy Idol can. Her friend who DJ'ed at the local club would play it for her every weekend. She wasn't shy about dancing with herself either until she found a dance partner. I use that term "dance" rather loosely since she moves like Elaine on Seinfeld.
Idol's remake of the Tommy James & the Shondells' tune could also get her dancing.
Billy is the perfect idol for today's post but I have a few idols to mention. My idols—I'm using the term interchangeably with "hero" although both have very different meanings—are those who give a voice to the voiceless; those who rescue cats and find homes for them often at their own expense. The staff of Ernesto's in Aleppo are my idols for what they're doing. I also want to give a shout out to Brian from Brian's Home and his dad and to my BFGF Savannah from Savannah's Paw Tracks and her peeps. They have been beyond inspirational in the work they do rescuing cats. I guess the gist here is don't idolize musicians and athletes. idolize those heroes who are making a difference by their deeds, bravery and actions.
I'm participating in the #4M Music Moves Me blog hop co-hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others.
Gratuitious cat photo. It reached triple digits yesterday and I might look like the heat got to me but I spent a good part of the day sleeping on the window sill with my head against the hot glass.
Wow...Mony, Mony takes me right back to the roller skating rink in grade school. I'm sure I'll surprise you when I say I love the song. Thanks for the memory!
ReplyDeleteCathy Keisha,
ReplyDeleteWOW, you haven't seen either of these programs? That's amazing, especially for someone who loves mewsic. I must have missed that season you co-judged, darlin but you sure do look furrtastic with the other judges in the picture. Randy Jackson wears the craziest glasses. I enjoyed your take on the theme using Billy Idol as your feature artist for today. Thanks for joining the 4M crew on the dance floor and have a boogietastic week, my dear!
I have never watched Pop Idol or The Voice either. Great choice of Billy Idol though. My fave songs of his are probably rather predictable, Hot in the City, Rebel Yell and White Wedding.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Savvy's and Brian's humans do a wonderful job.
We enjoyed those CK and can you believe it, as much as the Dad likes music we've never watched American Idol or The Voice. Thanks for the meow-out dear friend, we appreciate you more than you know and we all love our ghetto gal!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this. My idols are those that do good, not entertain. We're on the same page.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week. ♥

CK you totally rock. I have no human idols. My thoughts run more to the furry side. Three Dog Night is a fave...music is great. What do you mean they're human? Don't you believe it. The Three Dog Night sits outside next door just ahowlin' at the moon....believe me peeps they're not.

Billy Idol was very popular when I was a kid. I didn't know about the history of his music. Thank you for sharing! Like you, I prefer giving my kudos to people who have made a difference (especially those who do thankless jobs). Excellent hero choices! :)
ReplyDelete- Purrs from your friends at www.PlayfulKitty.net
We used to watch the American Idol show, but not anymore. But we are happy you posted some Billy Idol videos. We are rocking here at the office. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful rest of your week.

I LOVE your interpretation the Idol theme. Brian and Savanah's folks are my idols too. Billy Idol is amazing! I saw him in concert in the late 1980's. XO
ReplyDeleteWell, Hi there, XmasDolly here nice to meet you. I've been off on sick leave you might say, but our Cathy kept the show running. So you really have your own interpretation about today's theme. I must say you rocked the house for sure. Everyone has there own thing and you have totally pointed out yours. Good Show my friend! Keep the house rockin' is what I always say! Great job & so nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI love Billy Idol's music. The only American idol that I have heard of is Kelly Clarkson, but I've never watched either of those shows.
ReplyDeleteBilly Idol is about as close as my human gets to any of those shows too! Even though one of her really good friends works on the Voice. But yeah, those shows are WAY too mainstream for her taste.
ReplyDeleteWe were at a definite disadvantage here, because I've never watched either show, either. I like the way you handled it....
ReplyDeleteCK, I've not watched that show, but Billy Idol's "White Wedding" was a hit when my best friend was getting married. Hope there is a cooling trend for your part of the world soon!
ReplyDeleteWe do have your stunning face on our refrigerator (the magnet we got from TW)!
ReplyDeleteWow! Mony Mony. Mom hasn’t heard that in ages. What a great song. You always have such great topics CK. Hugs n Purrs
ReplyDeleteHa, our humans were just talking about Billy Idol the other day! They've never watched the Voice, either, for what it's worth!
ReplyDeleteWe're a big fan of Idols and The Voice, watching it every week since the beginning and what a big surpurrise it would have been if Billy Idol was in it too, as he's one of our idols too. We only see the American Voice when the Dutch season is over and we have to admit that what we have seen until now, it's Outstanding! Really...We would loved to have seen you in the jury, CK😎We're fan of Brian and Savvy too :D COOL Pawkisses for a wonderful day🐾😽💞
ReplyDeleteCK, you will always be my idol, a kitten to put on a pedestal and worship.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Parker.
I will admit I did watch a few seasons of Idol but I haven't seen it in years. And thanks for the gratuitous cat photo. Can never have too many of those.
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss 2013, when you were a judge? Wait, I think I gave up on AI by then. So, sorry! Seriously, I never heard of Gen X and seeing the really young Billy Idol was such a treat. I love his music, especially one you didn't feature, Eyes Without a Face. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteBilly Idol...yeah, his Mony Kony was terrific.
