Independent Cat #MusicMonday

Hola kitties! DJ CK, the most popular feline DJ around is gonna spin some Music Monday tunes. This week's prompt comes from John of Driller's Place. Y'all know John if you participate in the Wordless Wednesday hop over at Comedy Central.

Independent Cat #MusicMonday

He suggested "songs that celebrate your independence, personal or national." My personal independence day is January 29 cos that's the day I was freed from the shelter in 2006. The PetFinder pic that got me freed is in the header. It's a very special day for both my peeps and me. You can read the complete story of my independence. You've heard the cliché of "who saved who" but I saved Pop's life which is why we're so close.

Back to the music. I got some non-political independence day songs which are personal to the songwriters who wrote and sing them to share and I might throw a political one in at the end just 'cos. For the most part these songs are quiet rather than the loud rocknroll I usually play.

Athen, GA's Vic Chesnutt who's gone but definitely not forgotten by those who love his music. This is from his first CD.

The Orphan Trains are now called the Winterlings. Pop is distantly related to their singer Amanda Birdsall so I must be too.

Let's turn it up a bit with X from Los Angeles.

And The Boss Bruuuuuuuce! This is such a magical song. A very emotional version of the song as Danny Federici, who plays accordion on the song, told Bruce before the show that he had terminal cancer. It was one of if not the last show they performed together.

This last song is a powerful anti-war anthem taken from the book by the same name. TW had the honor of meeting and talking with Ron Kovic at one of Tom Paxton's shows. Mr. Kovic is a real patriot and hero. The book was turned into a Hollywood blockbuster with Tom Cruise and Mr. Kovic won an Oscar for Best Screenplay.

I'm participating in the #4M Music Moves Me blog hop co-hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others.

For my gratuitous cat photo, I'm standing on TW's pillow, where she says I'm not supposed to be since she's allergic to cats. Heh heh. Why do I feel someone breathing down my neck?

  2. The X song was pretty good. I really liked the Tom Paxton song. The others weren't bad, but not my favorites. That HH Gutt is a spy, you better watch out.

How was your 4th holiday? I hope you had a grand time celebrating our nation's birthday of 243 years of independence! ;) You brought a new2me songs to my ears which is pAwesome. I wanted to say a special thanks for pointing out the author of the quote I used. His opinion on God is totally contrary to mine but despite that, his words about independence is true. :) Thanks for joining the best dance party in Blogosphere (IMO)! Have a boogietastic week, my furriends and may God bless the USA always!!

  11. All the songs were new to me although - what a powerful story Ron Kovic has (I saw the movie many years ago so I must have heard this song somewhere along the line). So you may not believe this, but I thought he had passed on. So happy to discover he is still very much with us and looks so distinguished. The other songs paled before this, even Bruce Springsteen's. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
