Monday Mewsings and Mewsic

Hola kitties! I'm still recovering from the #SciFiPawty. Heh! They put a bar in the DJ booth, if you can believe that. If you missed my set, here's the link so you can go back and follow it. I didn't have time for the entire playlist but it's good to have a few songs in reserve in case the DJ after me is late or something. We raised about $1000 for One By One Cat Rescue. I hope some funds were raised during my set.

Monday Mewsings and Mewsic

One more day to enter for the 2-in-1 magic cut cube and bed.

We got almost nine inches of the white stuff a few days ago. I usually ignore the snow but I was enrapt with those big flakes falling from the sky. My excitement even showed in my tail which was twitching and wagging out of control. TW took a video which we uploaded to FB and YouTube but you get to see it right here!

Monday Mewsings and Mewsic

This week's Music Monday prompt comes from our own Miss Ellen of 15 and Meowing. She suggested songs with names of places—cities, countries, states, etc. There are literally millions of songs that fit that criteria so we're gonna try to whittle them down to 7.

You'd be surprised but TW's blank mind went even blanker when she first tried to think of some. This is the first one that popped into the old noggin. We've never been to London but love this entire two-record set. It was released in December 1979.

Another fave we're gonna feature a lot are the Psychedelic Furs. Lead singer Richard Butler is part Johnny Rotten and part David Bowie. I feel sorry for the cats that came before me who had to listen to the P. Furs first CD, which contained both this song and "Sister Europe" hundreds of time. OMC! TW has been playing it a lot lately and it makes my ears bleed.

I've gotten a wonderful response when posting R.E.M. songs before so why not another one. Michael Stipe is another charismatic lead singer. This wasn't such a tough choice even though their early records contained other faves like "Little America" and "Don't Go Back to Rockville." Then there's their covers of "Wichita Lineman" and "First We Take Manhattan." "Radio Free Europe" is one of TW's fave songs of all time.

Speaking of "First We Take Manhattan," we decided to post the Leonard Cohen original cos Leonard Cohen IS an original. He's written a treasure trove of wonderful songs. I picked a version with the lyrics since he's a poet, first and foremost. Just like me—it's all about the words.

This last one that we'll feature the video is for those of you who love soft, folky music. It was on Kate & Anna McGarrigle's debut LP. This is a gorgeous version with the late Kate McGarrigle singing with her kids from her marriage to Loudon Wainwright III, Rufus and Martha. Fortunately, you don't have to listen to TW joining in. Unfortunately for me, I do. This song has been covered by many artists, most notably Linda Ronstadt.

When TW was thinking about the Marches For Our Lives on Saturday, she mentioned there were marches from Boulder to Birmingham which, of course, reminded her of a song. Emmylou Harris co-wrote the song which is not a political song and does the best version.

Finally we'll head back to New York and back to music you can dance to—The Ramones' "Rockaway Beach." RIP CBGBs. TW misses that little club—all except the bathroom. HAH!

TW loves all types of music except classical and opera. She's seen all these artists with the exception of Leonard Cohen. It's a wonder she can hear me meow.

Thanks to Curious as a Cathy and XMas Dolly for hosting Monday's Music Moves Me blog hop.

I'm gonna try to find some amazing facts to post soon so keep your eyes open.

  20. Cathy & Keisha,

First let me say I'm sorry for the late dance. The past week plus we've been under a dark cloud at our house with the passing of DH's 95-year old father. We laid him to rest on Monday. I'm just now finding the time to make my rounds in Blogosphere.

Your mewsic selections are all new-to-me. I loved that you brought something new to my ears. Leonard Cohen had such a haunting voice and I really liked "First We Take Manhattan".

Thanks for joining the Monday's Mewsic Moves Me gang. Next week is "Your Choice" of songs, so I hope to see you on the dance floor. Have a pawsome day, my friend!
