A Strange Affair

A Strange Affair

I'm having a love affair with my new scratching post. I love everything about it and use it often. A few months ago, I posted how TW won it at the BlogPaws' social media pet bloggers conference. She thinks I may love "Felix" a bit too much. Lemme explain.

Pop likes it when I climb to the top of "Felix." That's right; I climb right up to the top. It's something I used to do on my first scratching post but haven't done for years. What TW doesn't like is how I've been rubbing my face and chin all over the rough sisal of said scratcher. It feel so good on my furs and skin.

A Strange Affair

TW thought it was cute until she saw how my chin appeared to be raw and pockmarked. I'm not prone to feline acne. She took a pic to show you but I don't see nothing. Rubbing near the top of the scratching post relaxes me. It soothes any itchies I might have.

A Strange Affair

What we'd like to know is do any other cats rub on their sisal scratchers like I do? Is it unusual or endearing?

Would you like to comment?

  1. I rub on lots of things, including sisal, but not to excess.

  3. I seem to rub everything, but not our scratching post. My favorite thing is to rub the corner of the dresser in the mom's bedroom. I think I rubbed the finish off! ~Wally

  4. Mes, Nellie, SCRATCHED everything! And shredded 3 sofas (and chairs). My favorite to scratch (and rub) was some 1950's retro chairs that Mommy recovered with vinyl...Even after all the vinyl was gone, mes scratched and rubbed my face on the top of the back!
And CK darling, your new scratcher is furry gorgeous!

  5. You sound really in love with Felix! I may have seen my boys rubbing on scratching post, but usually they use for scratching. I hope you won't rub too hard, CK.

  7. Well, you know that cats have scent glands under their chin and on their cheeks, so CK is simply saying, "This is mine!" Angel rubs her head on the table legs, and her horizontal scratcher, while Patty O'Malley rubs every bit of himself on every bit of everything he can find, including my glasses and my toes! I say CK rubbing her scratcher is endearing!

  8. Zorro rubs against a lot of things, but not the cat tree. Purrs

  10. I don't think you're alone, CK. Olive rubs on her scratching post like that, too.

  12. Flynn used to rub his face on anything and everything. When he first got ill he started to rub very hard on a concrete post and rubbed several whiskers off on one side of his face. I managed to keep him away from it and they eventually grew back.

  13. I rub lots on stuff we have here but not sisal. That could rub your furs off AND give you cat acne so be careful BFGF

  14. I am glad you are enjoying your scratcher so much. None of my cats seem to rub on sisal, we only have one small one, the rest are the cheap carpeted kind.

  15. I don't rub on sisal, mostly because there's very little in my house. My mom doesn't like it because it's too rough & prickly and none of the other cats liked it. I like to rub my chin on the edge of the kleenex box and the corner of the bed frame. I think rubbing your scratcher is ok, as long as you aren't rubbing your furs off and making your skin raw. You might need to take a break from rubbing if you're damaging your skin.

  16. I have feline acne when I rub or touch plastic so we don't have plastic toys or bowls for me. Could you be allergic to the sisal? Just a thought CK.

  17. Yes, it's all yours, CK! Chill out a bit please.
CK certainly looks beautiful with her color coordinating gray scratcher.

  18. Hi CK sweets! I bet that does feel good on your chin, but I wonder if you might have a bit of an allergy from the material? I don't rub my chin on my tree, but I do love to sharpen my claws on it & do so most days. -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews

  19. Huh. Maybe you can convince TW and Pop to make Felix your tree this coming Christmas so you don't have to deal with any non-house-trained trees? I bet it makes TW so happy to see you enjoying something so much. Bear all of a sudden developed acne. It was very odd - but no more plastic for him. He's had a couple horrid break-outs with open sores and bigger zits than I've ever had. I felt so bad for him. The vet gave us Synotic (yes, the one prescribed for ear infections in dogs) - after one bottle of that, no more open wounds ... but he still gets the black flakes. I wash his chin with Stridex pads too (every other kind has alcohol - so that's why the vet recommended Stridex). It is odd though ... unless CK has some kind of allergy that's making her itch.
