We weren't the biggest fans of Prince but we respected his talent and his catalog of music. TW had a couple of his albums which somehow didn't make the move with us and a couple of singles. "1999," "When Doves Cry," "Little Red Corvette," "Purple Rain" and Raspberry Beret" were some of her favorites. We felt badly after hearing of his passing Thursday. TW saw an image on Twitter which she really liked. It's a copyrighted image so you won't see it on this blog. As is often the case with TW, she didn't bookmark it even though she knew she was going to use it as inspiration for today's art.
As promised last week, TW started the art piece in Photoshop by doing a color adjustment to make the pic a pretty purple cos we all know purple was Prince's color. Then she overlaid a watercolor design to give it a dreamy feeling. We added a
TW didn't like the way the leaky light looked so she took it back a few steps and decided to make my eyes stand out by masking them out of the watercolor overlay. It still didn't get my stamp of approval cos it still didn't resemble the Prince image we were looking at. We went into one of our online programs and added a paper texture, bokeh layer and a smoke filter.
That one looked totally cool but we wanted to try one last pièce de résistance. Don't even ax what filter this is. MOL! I made her try them all before settling on this.
For the one below, we went back to the original, cropped it and then converted it to black and white which is what she should have done in the first place before applying all the filters. You can biggify them all if you'd like. Bet you'd never guess the original pic was one of myself on the Tree of Pain.
I'm sure most of you were touched by Prince's music. What was your favorite song?
Concats to Summer who won the valerian toys from Bavarian Cat Toys. I'll bet she's gonna enjoy them and hopefully there won't be any smacky paws.
Thanks to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty for hosting the Caturday Art Blog Hop so I can mess around with Photoshop and all the cool online apps that are so easy a cat can do them.
What a lovely tribute to Prince. My human was an admirer, but didn't follow him that closely... except for one brief summer when Purple Rain came out. The movie was so much fun that she went to the discount matinee several times a week... for several weeks! Then she went out dancing all night. She was between gigs and was supposed to be focusing on her writing. Yeah, that worked out!
ReplyDeleteThat was a purrfect purple tribute to Prince. My peeps ran into him at the Miami airport a long time ago and he was most plesant.
ReplyDeleteWe were shocked and sad to hear the news of Prince's death. You have created a wonderful tribute to him.
ReplyDeleteThat was a superb tribute CK.
ReplyDeleteMom says she wasn't a big fan of Prince, but she did enjoy his music. Never bought an album or single but he was a intriguing personality and artist. To his fans we know he will greatly missed.
Great tribute!
ReplyDeleteMum isn't really a fan of Prince, though she did like some of his songs, epecially the 80s ones.
Purrs xx

This is such a wonderful tribute to Prince. Great art works! I'm not knowledgeable with music, but even I know When Doves Cry. He and his talent will be very much missed.
ReplyDeleteNice post for Prince. Phoebe is going to write one for tomorrow and show our purple record of Purple Rain. My favorite was always When Doves Cry.
ReplyDeleteThe Dreamscope app actually has a purple rain effect, and we noticed on their site that several people had used it to create tributes to Prince. Prince is a bit after our humans' time music-wise, but Mom always liked "Little Red Corvette." We like all the variations of your art C.K. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteMo loved Little Red Corvette. In fact, the day she got her red Corvette she rode up and down the highway playing it and singing along (Thank COD the windows were closed!)
ReplyDeleteWe think your artwork is fantastic!! We like your Raspberry Beret too!
The Florida Furkids
Lovely tribute for Prince. We're not fans of his music, but we respect the great artist he was. Purrs
ReplyDeleteGreat tribute to Prince. We didn't follow much of his music but that dude was talented. Mom liked Purple Rain but he had so many to choose from that we could change our mind if we heard another of his songs. CK you are bright and sassy as ever.
ReplyDeleteShoko
Purple is one of our very favorite colors so we're loving the Prince tributes we're seeing. Yours are purr-fect!
ReplyDeleteLove how you incorporated Purple. I liked Prince quite a bit, my faves were two that you mentioned, "Little Red Corvette" and "When Doves Cry" catchatwithcarenandcody
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tribute to such a remarkable talent. Prince had so many great songs...even ones that he didn't sing himself...like Manic Monday and Nothing Compares 2 U.
ReplyDeleteMom was quite a fan in Prince's early years. She loves all the songs you mentioned. Since purple is my color too, I'm really enjoying your art and all the other tributes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to Prince!
ReplyDeleteThe same for me, I like some of his songs but that's it. Sad is that he died at such a young age ! My cats are not interested in human songs at all !
ReplyDeleteI love these images, CK, and not just because purple is my favorite color! So lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt was certainly sad to hear of Prince's passing. I never really got all that into his music, perhaps because his earlier stuff was just a tad before my time. But, I do enjoy an occasional hearing of "Raspberry Beret" and "When Doves Cry". Prince was a mighty respectable artist, and may he rest in peace.
Looking good in purple, CK!

You look great in purple! Awesome tribute to Prince, CK. Our humans really liked his music a lot, and we're sad about his untimely passing.
ReplyDeletePurple all over the world, CK :( Purple rain, 1999 and The Scandulous Sex were Granny's favorites. She wasn't a fan too, but she loved some of his music and his purrsonality...what she saw on television though :D She says that another piece of her youth has died with him too. She is the same age as Prince was and it feels very unreal. RIP Prince, hope he is together with his Soulmate now <3 <3 <3 Pawkisses :) <3
ReplyDeleteWe like your purple art, especially the one where you made your eyes stand out.
ReplyDeleteThat art is a very good tribute indeed. Nicely done! We're listening to those songs over here a lot this week. "Doves" was one of the mom's faves. She likes how he was such an iconoclast with technique in some instances - like not using bass in "Doves".
ReplyDeleteThe song at the moment is delirious..
ReplyDeleteas always you rock the music world CK
