Burd-tv is Going Off the Air For Me

Burd-tv is Going Off the Air For Me

Almost exactly five years ago I posted about a dire development here at the condo. My Burd-tv was being cancelled. I put up the good fight to stall the work, but ultimately lost. Lemme update the original post now.

When I was adopted into this "luxury" condo, we had a beautiful view out our window. I used to spend countless hours on my cat tree, watching Burd-TV and the other channels like Car-TV. The cars look like little toys on the Lincoln Tunnel helix and I always imagined that I'd catch one someday.

They're adding a few floor to that green building and that flat roof.

Well, the peeps told me that the building directly next door—a one-story factory—had been bought and the new owner was adding 3 more floors. Let this sink in. Unfortunately my peeps have their priorities totally mixed up. They're worried about things like the apartment being dark—even in the middle of the day—and their property resale value plummeting. TW will no longer be able to photograph beautiful sunrises and Pop won't be able to do his own traffic report in the mornings by just looking at the Lincoln Tunnel traffic out the window. They'll be no New Year's Eve fireworks' display in the warmth of our home. BFD! says Cathy Keisha.

This ghetto cat is worried about the real issues here. Burd-TV will be cancelled if we are facing the wall of the building next door. Car-TV will also be cancelled. Say what?!?! I paid my cable bills and I want what I paid for! I know my rights! I will take this all the way to the Supreme Court, if I have to!!

Look! There's two rats with wings on the soon to be torn down roof.

The next topic of concern for this kitteh is "what about sun puddles?" I'm very upset to say it looks like I'll be saying adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen, arrivederci to the few sun puddles I now have. Our apartment faces North and West so I get my sun puddles early in the morning and by 10 a.m., they're gone. Now I have to wonder how the sun puddles are going to find their way through a 13-foot space between my building and the one that's going up. Will they be able to creep through for me?

Now that I gave you the history, here's the latest. Recently I received this in the mail. I hope you can read it. If not, you can biggify it. I couldn't believe it.

Of course since 2011, the peeps had FIVE years in which to move so it wouldn't come down to this. In fact, the neighbors on either side of us did move. I'll bet everyone on this side of the building moved except the peeps. I think it's inhumane to keep a cat in an apartment with no sunpuddles and no Burd-tv, don't you?

What's a cat to do? Here's what: I'm axing everyone to write to Cat Cable Co. of NJ and tell them to reconsider cutting off my service. Post to their Twitter and Facebook pages. Maybe if there's enough of an outcry, it just might work. If not, I'm gonna be a very unhappy cat.

The peeps NYC views like this will be gone.

  1. Well, it's just an OUTRAGE is what it is! But sometimes the Humans have to just endure the outrages. Don't be too hard on your Peeps, CK. They might be kinda like my Human: The Human and I live in a rent-controlled apartment smack dab in the middle of what is fast becoming the most expensive city in the US. There is NO WAY we could move--our rent would quintuple in an instant, and we'd end up living in Modesto or Bakersfield or some hell hole somewhere. Now we know your Peeps have different circumstances because they own their place, but I bet it would be real hard to move. Here's the thing: Maybe if you lose your sunpuddles or most of them, the peeps could get you a nice heat lamp like they use to warm french fries or burgers! And maybe they could get you a nice parakeet or something for a playmate. We just gots to adapt to life in the Big Cities. Sigh. Love you XOXOXOXO

  2. I don't remember where I lived before moving to this house, but I know I would not want to be without sunpuddles or bird t.v. If you're on the top floor, maybe you can get a sky light? My mom wants to live on at least one acre (preferably more) so she doesn't have to hear our suburban neighbors talking, their music, or close all the windows when their fire up their smokey barbecue. I'd like more yard too, but realistically, we're here for several more years while the humans bring home the bacon. Then they'll be too old to have lots of land, so we'll probably be here forever. Maybe the financing on the property will fall through or it will take a couple more years to get all the building permits. I do hope you still get a little sun and lots of fresh air. Maybe you could put a suction-cup bird feeder on your window to attract little birds?

  3. I'd be more concerned about the noise all day long. I think you will be UTB for a while. Do you keep a computer under there so you can still blog?

  4. Aw man, CK, that sucks! I think your humans should have moved before now! It sounds like you guys might be stuck. :-(

  5. Oh no, I'm sorry your TV service is getting cut off :-( I hope you will still get good amount of sun puddles. But I really hope the new owner changes mind and scraps the plan to build more floors.

  6. Bummer, CK! What are you to do? Hopefully TW will subscribe to Kitty Netflix for you.

  7. C.K., This is totally unacceptable. We can't imagine you losing Burd TV and sun puddles as well as having to listen to all those construction noises for months on end! Mom cannot imagine your peeps losing those views. TW is going to need to start stockpiling lists of web-sites with Burd, car and critter videos. We are so sad for you, C.K. 12. uhoh.........this is not going to be acceptable on ANY level and certainly not on YOUR level. No BurdtV? No sunpuddles? Talk about boredome - well you just need to tell your peeps that they must move PERIOD. It's either that or you need a sunlamp and a cage full of burds in the condo to watch. Still, you may wind up having someone directly across from you who has a cat and you might make a new friend? Not quite the same as sunpuddles though.

  14. OMC that's terrible. No BurdTV? No Sunpuddles? No CarTV? No beautiful view of the city and the fireworks? This is awful. We think your peeps are just as upset about this as you are and we don't blame them.

  15. That stinks. Sorry CK. Maybe they could move? Or maybe you can get a suction cup bird feeder to get the birds to come right to your window.

  16. What a shocking development! Maybe you could talk your peeps into moving up here to Bernie land? They would be very happy here and we could be neighbors!!! --Mudpie

  18. BFGF, you and I share the same concerns. As you know, we are again looking for a new home. My humans may be able to buy something teeny tiny, and bless them, their first concern is always SUN PUDDLES and their second is "can they attract birds for me and TKS to watch". They have turned down potential buys due to not enough sun puddles. Paws crossed Ms Sun delivers some puddles to you.

  19. This is horrible, CK! Y'know, we have lots of windows here and we feel so bad for you that we'd be willing to share them with you. Just hop into your tunnel and teleport over.

  20. Hey! I just remembered: If the Humans (not yours, but others who are all busy outside ruining your view) manage to drive away your bird frenz, maybe your peeps can get you those nice kitteh DVDs that have burds and fishes and other scuttling things to entertain you? I wish we had more birds here. Just pigeons. They look chubby and toothsome, but they aren't much fun.

  24. Oooooooooooo CK that just well is not acceptable, burdless and sunpuddles being removed. NO NO NO!!! We also hate the noise factor that you'll have to endure. YIKES!!!!

  26. I'm beside my self...how could this happen to you? Your peeps had years to fingd the right accomadations with many sun puddles, burd TV, car tv, peeps tv and all the other channels on the supreme packages. I'd say start gathering up your stuff and pack your suitcase. TW will get the idea you are not happy and want to move like NOW.

  28. Oh, noes! But there is good news. My Maggie lived in an apartment like this for about 3 years (long years, by her account), and we made do. Heated beds, play sessions, automated toys, television. And, I have to say, she became a bit of a voyeur. She loved to watch people as much as she liked the birds!

  29. Loved your post! Very humorous. But a real issue from a cat's perspective since most cats spend most of their time looking out the window. My husband and I used to live in NYC and our three were lucky enough to have a tree with birds to watch. Now we live in DC on the 10th floor and there's not nearly as much fun stuff for them to see. Working on growing FUR Entertainment - movies for pets - to fix that. Would love your feedback! I want to build the best service I can to improve the life of pets. I'm @FurEntertain and meg.flippin@furentertainment.com.
