My New Box—Two Conflicting Opinions

My new box—two conflicting opinions

TW always sez that people are quick to write reviews or complain to companies when an item doesn’t meet their expectations but slow to comment when an item exceeds them. This review falls into the first category—in her opinion.

The peeps wanted to call this completely unsolicited review Worst Litter Box Ever.

Last week, I told you about my new litter box. the Catit Large Style Hooded Cat Pan. (Note to FTC: I paid for the box with my own green papers.) It’s the “Cadillac" of litter boxes and I love it. It’s roomy, clean, and everything a cat needs in a litter box. It even has a nice step, or lip, inside for me when I step into or out of the box. It was perfect after I demanded that the door flap be removed as it was nearly impossible to push open from either direction. So CK,  if you like the box, what seems to be the problem?

My new box—two conflicting opinions
The scoop, the sunroof and the step do not play well together.
The problem as usual is the peeps. Apparently, they have trouble with that lip and the sunroof on the “Cadillac." I’ve had hooded litter boxes before and for each one, the peeps took the hood off to scoop it. No problemo. Actually, TW just unhinged one side when she scooped. This box has a little bitty sunroof that you open to scoop it and the peeps can’t seem to negotiate it. Between the sunroof and the lip, there’s no room to fit both an adult arm and a litter scoop especially when your stunning cat does her duty at the very front of the box practically under the step. Also since the side latches are very difficult to lock and unlock, it makes opening it that way cumbersome. (Did I just use that word?)

There are a few good points. It seems that annoying step keeps me from kicking litter out of the box and she’s been vacuuming up far less litter. She’s the one making the mess. She digs into the box, scoops around and when she gets a clump, it hits the lip and jumps out of the scoop before she get get it down into the bag. We have a really kewl litter scoop that TW has been using for about 20 years. You attach a bag to it—TW reuses the bags our newspapers are delivered in—and the pee or poo slides right into the bag. No muss; no fuss. I presume if you use a regular litter scoop or your cat doesn’t pee against the front of the box, the box might be easier to navigate and that lip might be a Godsend.

I guess the box isn’t the Worst Litter Box Ever but every time TW opens the sunroof and attempts to scoop the poop, those are the words that cross her lips.

My message to her: DEAL WITH IT!

  1. I ask you: In the realm of litter boxes, whose opinion **really** matters? That's easy to answer, isn't it? Y-O-U-R-S. I mean, after all, YOU are the one who could make their lives really hard if you wanted to. They should remember that.

Oh CK, darling, Summer is not interested in me, not even one little bit. I worship her from afar, of course, but her attentions are clearly elsewhere. And I like the LadyCats who like me back. You *do* like me back, right? ::anxious ears::

  2. If you like it, CK, that's all that matters. You're right - humans just have to Deal With It.

  3. The important thing is that you use it. The humans have to adapt and figure out how to clean it, but it's not all about them... it's your litterbox, after all!

  4. Pooty is in the eyes of the beholder CK! Oh, love that first photo girl!

  5. That does sound aggravating for your peeps...but it's your opinion that matters most!!!

  6. Good detailed information! I guess TW has to get used to it...:-)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Oh no. That does sound rather irritating for the humans! But if you like it, maybe TW will continue to put up with it. We have never used a hooded box - the Mom knows Lita would never go for that, MOL.

  8. For once I'm with The Spitster!! Since when is anyone else's opinion impawtant? You like it and that's the only consideration!!!

  9. Our Dusty (Champion New Zealand Litter Flinger) has one of those CK - its great for keeping the litter IN the box and we approve 100%

  10. It does seem like it has some nice features. But M says she would not like it either of it tends to be. Messy when you try to scoop the clumps out. She says thumbs down.

  11. Hmmmmm Maybe weez need one of these boxes CK. Mommy always left da lids unlatched when we used covered boxes so she kuld just lift 'em up as bendin' over was hard fur her to do. It's dat step what innerests us. Weezll have to check this out. Altho', me might be peein' on da step as me pees right inside da box up against da wall. Mommy sez it's a wunner me dusn't miss and hit da floor. MOL

    Luv ya'

  15. The mom says she totally agrees with TW on this one. But we agree with you, CK. 3 against 1. You win. :)

  16. All that matters is that you are happy CK- doeasn't TW realize that?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sounds like you and CK has an interesting situation. I hope you both work it out quickly

  18. You know what to get her for Christmas, a new scoop! I would think a regular one would have the same problem, though. ~RascalandRocco

  19. I think if you like it, and you do, you should be able to work this out amicably (did I just use that word?).....If the lid doesn't pop off or isn't hinged, I can see why it might be a bit of a PAIN for a human to handle scooping stuff out but surely with practice - ???

    Hugs, Sammy

  20. The Farm cats won't use lidded boxes. I guess 'cause they also use the great outdoor litter box known as "the yard." It's your box CK. Tell the peeps to just get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Change scoops. Easy fix. Sounds like a great litter box. We have three and are happy with them all....oh. Ot three Cadillacs...just 3 boxes with hoods

    ReplyDelete
  22. C.K., If you like it okay, TW is just going to have to learn to deal with it. Our humans would like that lip if it keeps the litter in the box, but some of us like to pee right in the corners, so they'd probably not like that. 23. If you like it, then TW and Pops will have to learn how to use it, too. And thanks for that scoop, info. Mommy is going to get one, since she makes a big mess when she scoops.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My mom would have the opposite complaint of yours. When we had a box with a top, she didn't latch the top, she just set in on the bottom portion and lifted the entire lid off for easy cleaning. But that litter scoop with the bag attached drove her nuts. How is that supposed to work?! You have the scooper part, then the bag flopping around the back end and mom could never get the hang of it. Maybe it's easier if you're scooping daily for just one cat, but when she tried it we had three kitties and there was a lot of scooping to do and that attached bag was always in the way.

  25. Well, CK, since you're the one using it... and it's much better than you using the floor! I'd say your opinion is the better one.. But, why use the locks? Pop those suckers off! as long as you're not knocking the top off while you're in there there's no reason to lock it on. Then again, maybe it wont work if you don't.. I don't know. My kitties can't use lidded boxes because they're too tall! MOL

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, I can see how that might be annoying. I'm glad the lid comes off ours super easy. Callie does like to flick litter out a lot though. But hey - as long as you're happy right?! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Weeelllllll WE all know who's opinion REALLY counts here now don't we CK?

    ReplyDelete
  28. My Clove and Kaspars agree with you 100% CK and often tell me the same thing when I complain about how much litter they kick and drag about. What I am dying to know is where I can find one of those cool scoopers like TW has?!
