Lemme tell you a story that's sad but true. Our computer has been running a tad slow lately and PhotoShop has been doing some funny stuff. TW took matters into her own smelly, inept hands and managed to lock us out of our own Mac. She said "Who knew we weren't the administrators of our computer." I knew! After she futzed around a bit and changed a few settings, Pop said "I better be able to get into the computer tomorrow morning." TW said, "It's fine." Then she restarted it to prove her point. Oopsy. All we got was the dreaded blue screen. Nothing going on here. That's not my definition of fine. I have to admire Pop cos he didn't strangle her; in fact, he hardly yelled at her. Maybe he knew how terrible she felt. I still think a beat down was in order.
After a sleepless night of tossing and turning and annoying the cat who shares the bed with her, TW thought she had a solution. This better work Woman, cos I have a Nipclub DJ shift tonight and I'm NOT cancelling. Heard?
As luck would have it, she did backup right before she futzed around so she restored the computer using the external hard drive. I don't think we lost anything. Hopefully, it reset the stuff that she upset. Paws crossed that the computer turns on again tomorrow or I'll never see your comment chastising her. (Tell her she's a dunderhead.)
In case anybuddy is wondering, don't change the Permissions on your hard drive. She thought it was a security risk that "everybody" is allowed to read our hard drive but apparently WE'RE everybody. Who knew? Well now we know and TW isn't allowed to touch any of the settings ever again.
And, oh yeah, PhotoShop is still doing funny stuff. Pffft!
Nope, the problem isn't back here! |
My human sort of knows her way around Macs and Adobe Creative Suite... and permissions is one thing she doesn't dare mess with! Paws crossed the thing still works tomorrow, CK... otherwise, I imagine there is going to be a lot of "I told you so" meowings from you!
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with Sparkle, If I have permission to change things I just DON'T. I meesed with the BIOS on a PC once…………
ReplyDeleteDon't ask….
Miranda Kitten
BOL my human wouldn't even know where to start fiddling around with the gubbins of the computer.......she is not techy at all. Keisha hope it is all OK now. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Ooh, permissions can do some whacky stuff on any platform of computer. We have to say we are proud of TW for thinking to do a backup before she started fiddling with things. So many people would have lost years and years of files because they never, ever back up.
ReplyDeleteWe try not to let Mom mess with anything because we're askeered she'll do something like that.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Between you and me CK, that is something The Staff would do!!
ReplyDeleteI have decided that Photoshop has a mind of its own
ReplyDeleteha ha - sounds like something that would happen here. M has the password for Administrator tho, so she could undo things. Don't you just LOVE technology!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the scariest things to happen! Glad it seems you didn't lose anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she sorted it out for you. George would have missed you last night.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it had nothing to do with you sitting on the keyboard CK!
ReplyDeleteWe hate dealing with computer problems! Hopefully things are back to normal!
I wonder if TW feels bad... just saying you could get more than half a can of your favorite food of the moment exploiting the situation ;-)
ReplyDeleteHope everything works now!
canna say nothin bout yur food serviss purrson CK sinz de food serviss purrson heer wuz bee itchin werst than a hot flash storm when de "numbers" wuz not showin up on her typin stuff...WE had ta tell her ta press de "numlock" key bove de seven; N ta quit havin a hurd oh cattle...
ReplyDeleteyea....
hay, heerz ta a grate week oh end !!!
We hope everything is back to normal now ! Mum is a backups maniac, but if computer problems happen all the same, it drives her totally crazy ! We and Dad know that we have interest in goes into hiding in these cases. Purrs
ReplyDeleteHoly Cat, CK. That's some scary stuff! So glad things all worked out.
ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me ... gotta go backup my computer. NOW. :)
Ugh. We sure are glad TW at least knew to do a backup before messing with the settings.
ReplyDeleteGlogirly's got so many passwords and user names she doesn't even remember her own name sometimes.
ReplyDelete...and yes, Photoshop has been glitchy!
; )
Our mom's MacBook Air has been acting stupid and glitchy for weeks. The Apple people told her she'd have to mail it to them, but she refuses to let it out of her hands. Guess when it finally quits working, she'll get the message. Humans are just so strange. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteWell, that's one I haven't done. Or have I. I don't know. I feel the angst though - I reminds me of my cooking. When the cat man moved in with us, I cooked a nice dinner. From that moment on, I have been banned from the kitchen. (Some of my glitches actually work in my favor!)
ReplyDeleteWell CK, it could have turned out a lot worse. Thanks for leading the purrs, I am feeling much better!
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope your plan works and you're able to come back! Compawters are kind of frustrating sometimes. I just got Photoshop Elements and now I need to learn how to work it. I'm a noob.
ReplyDeleteCK, the mom is afraid to touch anything on the computer. Now our dad guy will mess with all sorts of stuff...and the mom is always yelling at him not to touch anything!
ReplyDeleteWe sure hope your computer works fine now.
sorry to hear about the computer woes, that is the WORST!
ReplyDeleteFYI you can do MANY of the same things that you can do on photo shop by going to www.ribbet.com and www.picmonkey.com there is another one called pizaz or something like that too.
I feel your pain. The staff can really mess up things once in a while. Oh the glory days when we still had a MacBook... I guess the poor old thing got old, and suddenly the Safari just died on it. And can you believe it, the Staff bought an embarrassing PC for us!! It's just hidious! Well, I guess it gets the job done but still!
ReplyDeleteMomz is no better CK...I can't tell you the number of times she has tried to do a simple thing like install a new program and totally screwed the pooch (you should pardon the expression)..Glad you're back in action again...Now make sure she keeps paws off
ReplyDeleteSounds like something my human could manege to do too :)
ReplyDeleteGlad it worked out well !
XOOX
OMC!! never ever never touch permission settings unless you are a total geeky geek. So far you are still posting so I think you must be good to go!
