Getting to Know Ben Franklin

Have you ever smelled The Benjamin? No, really! Have you? I'd never seen or smelled a Benjamin before and neither had TW. My peeps don't have much money. Like everybuddy else, they try to save their few pennies until they really need them. This week I got to smell a pair of Benjamins. Lemme explain.

Getting to Know Ben Franklin

Getting to Know Ben FranklinAround this time of year, you have to nip tip the people who "work" for you—or so the peeps say. Unlike some, my peeps don't have to tip dog walkers, cat sitters, nannies, beauticians, etc. When you live in a condo building, though, you need to tip the doormen, porters or other staff members who make your life easier. They're the ones who shovel our snow, sign for my packages, carry my litter and Chewy orders upstairs … little things like that. These things mean so much more when I read about my furrends' humans having to lug 40 lbs of litter up to their apartments or houses.

My peeps usually tip each staff member individually depending on how much they actually do for us. This year, they left a lump sum for "Staff" downstairs cos TW is lazy said she was running late doing holiday stuff. So I got to smell The Benjamin.

There is one concierge, however, who did get a special gift cos he's been there since the peeps moved in. When I get a big, heavy box, he'll have it brought upstairs without even calling if he knows TW is home. He just goes the extra mile. Some of the others grouse when TW axs them to send a package up with one of the porters. He does other favors too. We're so glad we have him in our lives.

I'll prolly not get to smell old Ben again but I liked what I smelled. He's alright with me. I wished we could've kept at least one of him around.

Do your humans have any special humans they tip this time of year?

Would you like to comment?

  1. We don't have anyone to tip this time of year. Actually my human should probably tip the gardener but she was so far behind in paying him (the joint checking was short for a month), that she was just barely able to catch up on the payments!

My human's boyfriend used to get paid sometimes in cash for his gigs (now all the money is deposited into a band account and the members are paid like employees). So one time he came home with a bunch of hundreds... and Binga insisted on posing with them!

  2. We don't have to tip anyone here because we do all our own lugging and door opening. Last year I took a photo with all the dimes from my ducky bank. I've never taken a photo with paper money and it's fun that you were able to do it, even if it was just to help show your appreciation for all the peeps who help your family during the year.

Nobody to tip here either... It used to be that one got to know one's postman or the blokes who cleared the bins each week - but that has been gone for many years now as, for security and fiscal and lots of other reasons, there is no such thing as a regular postie or garbo anymore. AS for Benjamin; we don't get 100 denomination notes, 50 pounds is the biggest and I sure haven't seen one in a very very very long time. I think ours has two peeps; James Watt and Matthew Boulton. Industrialists, who most definitely would have seen big notes... Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

  6. Wow! We can't even imagine! Our Mom's never even seen The Benjamin, not once in all her old years. Sure you didn't want to put a little nibble on a corner? That thing's probably going around the world!

  7. How nice of your parents. Yes, we tip the hairdresser and cleaning lady. That's it. Nobody else helps us with stuff. I think mom deserves a tip for all the fussing she does over us but she'd be giving herself something...then she'd have to borrow money for food from herself. Way to complicated!

  8. That is very thoughtful. We don't really tip anyone but we did take gifts to the staff at our Vet place.

  9. We tip our hairdresser and our pet sitter. We think our pet sitter especially should get tips around the holidays, because going to people's homes twice per day on a holiday can be a bummer, and we do appreciate their work!

  15. CK your peeps are special and I think mine are too (probably why your peeps and mine are broke MOL)....Mom bought chocolate for the mail carrier, we tip hairdressers (but Mom won't see him til Jan or Feb but she still gives him his holiday tip then even if she wasn't there in December).........we also give a tip to the driver who drives the shuttle to the Lions games (Mom and Dad love him)........they try to be generous...your peeps are obviously the same!! 16. We don’t have a lot of people to tip, but the mom always tips the lady that cuts her hair and she sent some green papers to the lady that delivers the newspaper. Yeah, we still get an actual newspaper because the dad-guy likes reading the real thing, not on line.

  17. That is very generous of your peeps!

  18. Tips are what my Mommy lived on in the 8 years she put my human brother's dad through school and then herself, so she tips well all the time.
And in the Townhouse there is no one special to tip, though last year Mommy tipped the caretaker at Nellie's er Queen Penelope's Castle in the Sky!

  20. Mom L gives some extra green papers to the lady who paints her toesies and she and Dad P give extra green papers to the lady who does both their hair and to the lady who helps them keep our home nice and clean. That's about it.
