Cats and the Value of Solitaire

Cats and the Value of Solitaire

It's time once again to peek into the pamphlet Happy Cat Happy You. These quick tips for building a bond with your feline friend are suggested by the authors at the Catnip Newsletter and compiled for Tufts Institute. This is a series that I'm running which is not sponsored by anyone. I'm just offering my stunning opinions.

I didn't get the third tip at all. CATS VALUE SOLITAIRE. I have never played cards and TW doesn't play it anymore. Now Faith and Autumn did value solitaire. They sat on the table and watched Gramma play every day. … Wait, TW is trying to innerrupt me as usual.

Ahem! koff … koff.

Tip number three is CATS VALUE SOLITUDE. This makes more sense although I love to be wherever the peeps are. When I first moved in, I had mad separation anxiety. If I woke up and there wasn't a peep in the room, I'd start wailing. Come of think of it, I still do that but now it's more for attention.

I get plenty of solitude when Pop is at work and TW goes out to run her errands. Is it any wonder that I value my time with them more than I value solitude?

Enough about solitude. I've found that solitaire is more relaxing and lots of fun. Check out these fun images of my solitaire game. And, no, I don't value solitude while I'm playing solitaire. Remember to hover over the images to read my commentary.

  1. My human usually doesn't go around pestering us, so we get as much solitude as we want. Like I said, usually.

  2. The head peep is often preoccupied with the computer when she is at home, or she goes to the day job, so we get plenty of solitude. We heard a rumor she was peeking in on us on a camera recently. Does that count as non-solitude if we don't notice? Solitaire does look like fun, though. How do those cards taste? You could put some nice holes in them with your teeth.

  3. I like solitude through the day and sleep in the bedroom, or in my plant pot in the greenhouse. I like company at night though and keep checking on my mum and dad. I tap my mum to see if she is awake and if she doesn't move I yell at her and she wakes up.

  4. Some of us like Solitude, some of us like Solitaire... if for no other reason, to nibble on those cards. Gimme one!

  5. I like a little of both and so does my peep.

  9. We usually get solitude. Except when Mommy sneaks in the bedroom and smooches us when we're napping.

  10. Mudpie doesn't value solitude at all. If I'm not in the same room she seeks me out. Our relationship is new so we're still in the clingy phase ;)

  11. Most of my cats prefer to be in whatever room we are in so I don't think they like a lot of solitude. I would have thought you preferred 52 pick up :)

  12. We think you should take up blackjack, CK, and start making some green papers in Vegas!

  13. Solitude has it's draw, but solitare sounds amusing. I bet those cards could fly if you swipe them with your paw.

  14. I can't remember the last time I played Solitaire with actual cards, but I used to do it all the time as a kid. I even have a picture of me with a childhood cat keeping me company while playing. But CK, I don't think you understand the rules of Solitaire, based on your captions. :-) That's okay, when do cats ever follow rules, right?

  15. That solitaire stuff looks kinda fun, CK! We're not so much solitary-type cats, but maybe it's because our peeps are pretty quiet around the house? - Gracie and Zoe

  16. I resent solitude. I liked it in the summer when the Human was around to peel me a metaphorical grape on demand, *just* when I wanted it. Now she gets up and takes a shower, feeds me, gets dressed and gives me a little head scritch on her way out the door. OUTRAGE. I dunno about solitaire--maybe she could set up a game for me before she goes?

  17. I don't know many card games, but I used to build bridge with them :-)
Goro loves to be wherever peeps are, too. So when he is not around, we worry!
Love your "teeth on the dealer" pic :-)

  18. The kitties around here prefer solitude roughly 1% of the time. Like you, CK, if they find themselves alone, they let the whole world know. And we're just curious, CK, if that last picture is of you getting that snack you needed?

  19. Did you get your snack CK? We sure hope you did! We like our solitude. Probably because our human is gone during the day at work. When she's home we spend probably 80% of our time in the same room with her but when it's nap time we like to hide in the bedroom for some nice quiet solitude.

  20. Interesting. We Sphynx don't value solitude. We want to be wherever the humans are. If the humans are in separate rooms, we will frequently meow until they are in the same room and we are with them.

  21. I like your version of Solitaire, CK! You totally won that hand. Manna and Dexter would play Solitaire by knocking all of the cards onto the ground. Solitude can be fun too. Sometimes we all need a little alone time!

  22. Solitude is over rated...it's just being alone with nobody! I like solitaire...the corners of the cards are great to nibble on when one feels like a bit of kibble. MOL

  23. Ya' know CK we think those researchers must be idiots. Cuz so far we haven't agreed with any of their suppositions. We don't have cards, but mommy does like an occassional game of solitaire on da catputer. Luv your fotos. Hope you have a great week.

  24. Kozmo likes the biting! He does not like it when Mommy closes the bedroom door at night and hes on the otherside...he yells. |then Mommy has to gets up and let him in.
Other than that, wes pretty used to having Mommy goes to work.

  26. With eight of us, it is hard to get any solitude, but we manage when we need it. Mom and Dad used to play solitaire on the computer 10+ years ago. When Misty May and Mauricio were babies they liked to sit in front of the computer and paw at the screen. Mom has a photo of it. 27. When I am done with solitude I meow loudly and go searching for a human to give me pets. But I also like my time snoozing in quiet and sun puddles
