This post actually has nothing to do with dancing and a lot to do with abuse. Abuse of The Cat. The kitteh's luck finally ran out. The calendar showed it was April and even though I hadn't gotten my usual April asthma attacks, the peeps dragged me kicking and screaming to the stabby place aka the Secaucus Animal Hospital. All sorts of mayhem took place before we even left the house which was far more inneresting than the actual visit. Lemme set the stage.

I spent the morning having an "easy like Tuesday" on Pop's chair while TW was fussing about. When I saw her spraying something foreign in my PTU, I got curious. No, actually I realized what was happening. I hopped off the chair and headed for the hills. I could hear Pop yelling loudly at TW. Why did she have to do that? She ruined everything! He took a day off from work for nothing. Blahdy blah blah. The Pet Remedy calming spray she used in my PTU obviously had the opposite effect on Pop. He was red faced and angry.

I was in Pop's room so they brought the PTU and some treats in to try to trap me. It wasn't working. I avoided tackles right and left. I was heading for goal line but found the door was closed. Pop would pick me up and attempt to shove me in and I'd bolt. Finally he really manhandled me. Ouch!!! TW slammed the door and the taxi was called while I thrashed around in the box like a caged animal. Wait! I WAS a caged animal.

TW put some Rescue Remedy on my nose—although Pop needed it more—hoping to calm me down since the Pet Remedy spray we'd gotten to review didn't do squat seem to work. I screamed the songs of my people all the way to the stabby place Secaucus. In harmony. With percussion backup. I killed with those songs. The peeps' ears were bleeding by the time we got there.

They took me right into Room 4. It wasn't too long before Dr. D. and her vet tech extraordinaire A. came in. They took the screws out of my case but I knew they were gonna put the screws to me. They both talked softly to me and A. tried to pet me. I greeted her with a hiss then a growl. Instead of putting on the big long orange gloves, A. wrapped me in a towel. I dunno why cos I wasn't wet. Dr. D. lifted me, towel and all on to the scale. 10.7 lbs. I'd gained a couple of ounces. I hope she realized the towel weighed about a hunnert pounds. She mentioned that in the fur I looked bigger and longer than I looked on this blog.

Dancing With Dr. D.

With A. holding the towel and trying to pet me, the exam started. Dr. D. said my furs looked good; as did my ears and eyes. She assured TW that I wasn't going bald but that the thinning fur over my eyes was a natural trait in some cats with my coloring.

Dancing With Dr. D.

For a cat who always has her mouth open trying to bite, when Dr. D. tried to pry my mouth open for the dental checkup, I wouldn't open up. Notice in the pic that she used a tongue depressor to open my mouth and not her fingers. She said I had a little gingivitis but wanted to wait since the risks of me going under anesthesia outweighed the benefits. Overall she said my teeth looked very good for a "cat my age" whatever that's supposed to mean.

My temperature was normal and she said I shouldn't need the vaccines cos I'm an indoor-only cat. She knows TW isn't thrilled about them and that I've had bad reactions in the past. Then the anal probe came out. Note there is no pics or video of this part. I gritted my teeth and it was soon over with just a slight hiss on my part.

Dancing With Dr. D.

Then came the question and answer segment. A. had me calm as a baby by this point. (I'm sure she drugged me when I was preoccupied with the exam.) TW axed Dr. D. about the new SDMA™ screening test for kidney disease. Dr. D. explained the pros and cons of it and said that last year my blood work was so good, she wasn't going to steal my bloods until next year. TW axed her again about my teeth and she explained they'd have to lay me on my back to do some of it. They discussed raw diets since she said I had a bit of an irritable bowel thing. Dr. D.'s concerns are, like TW's, about contamination. She gave me some dope drugs for anxiety cos everyone thinks The Cat is stressed out and hinted I should have one two hours before my next visit. As if. Does anybody know anything about this new drug, Gabapentin? Is it as good as Xanax for humans? At one time TW loooooved her Xanax. Maybe we should give it to Pop before my next visit.

Then came the photo op. It wasn't exactly a selfie since TW took the pic while A. snapped away for their Facebook page. I was in no mood for kissy faces.

Seriously, Dr. D. and everyone at the Secaucus Animal Hospital are huge fans of this blog so I'll send a shout out to them. I joke about it but they treat me with R-E-S-P-E-C-T; they don't scruff me like that horrible place did. Thank you to Dr. D. and A. for taking good care of me while I was there. See ya new year.

Dancing With Dr. D.

Lemme also give a shout out to Happy Feet Cat Rescue who houses some of the their adoptable cats at the hospital. TW met a few and took this stunning pic of one of the cats—I believe that's Luca—using the litter box. Good work, Woman. Now you know why I have a covered box.

I stayed calm the entire trip home. Who knows? Maybe the Pet Remedy finally took effect.

  1. You are a brave, brave girl my darling! Now I dunno about your Pop. He seems like he could use a chill pill. Maybe he'd like a little valerian? You are too nice to your Ebil V-e-t--you should put the biteys on 'em so they'll think twice about shoving that cold glass cylinder up where it definitely should not be. XOXOXOXO

  2. I'm glad the vet humans at least acknowledged your fame... and you know, you have like twice as many Facebook likes as their clinic does!

  3. Love this post! Vets are a necessary evil for well-cared pussycats, I'm afraid!

  5. Sounds like you had quite the eventful day, CK. You sound like my kitties when trying to get them in the carrier. I'm usually sweating up a storm by the time it's over!

  6. Russell and Scooter both had the major dental works done...aka under anesthetic. The cat mom was a nervous wreck. I am happy you did not have to go there. Cat Mom says she needs to train vet, while Cat Dad takes it all in stride. I guess you can figure our Alice will get the same treatment.

  7. If looks could kill! ...you mean business in that first photo, CK!
Glad everything went well and there was no planned or unplanned bloodshed.
Hey, if you ever want to talk about raw and contamination concerns, just give our girl a call. ; )

Word is that Waffles and I will be making our annual trip to the vet soon. That is if anyone can find me.

  8. Ha!! Too funny! I was going to blog about Cody's trip a few weeks ago but never did. Between you and me? I think ALL of those "calming" sprays etc (including Feliway, sorry!) Do NOT work! Thankfully, Cody doesn't get upset at the Vet or in the car on the way there so I don't use them anyway, but....they have Feliway in the exam rooms plugged into the wall. I have yet to see it do anything. I think all of those things are scams. You should get the carrier that I have (No, it is NOT a Sleepy Pod, I am not one who cares for those because it gives the cat, in my opinion NO ROOM). I bought mine on the Pet360 website a few years ago and it is a Godsend! It is a traditional PTU...but...it has a front door AND a door on the top. So instead of shoving Cody into it head first, I open the top and insert him with his legs first. It is super easy to get him out at the Vet too, no more of that unscrewing stuff that I used to have to do too. Cody was also "violated" in his rear end.....he was NOT amused! I didn't take pictures this time because he had a lump we were worried about (which has since disappeared with antibiotics) so I didn't want to pull out the camera. Glad you are home safe and sound!!!! xoxo catchatwithcarenandcody

  9. We've never tried a calming spray that worked either. So glad you had such a respectful and well good outcome at the Vet. Boo had to go last week and Mom says it hurt her more in the pocket book than it did hurt Boo to go. All was good with my senior sister!

  12. Impressive trip, CK! Sounds like this vet has your number and is treating you with the respect you deserve -- well, except actually asking you to go in the first place, that is.

  13. What a day you had, CK...! You must be exhausted. My Goro gets rolled in towel at the vet, too. (They don't do that for Niko.) I'm going towards no-vaccine as my boys are indoor kitties, too.
Glad you checked out fine :-)

  17. Oh CK sorry you had to go to da VET, but me's glad they took care of ya. Gabapentin' isn't a new drug at all. It's purrscribed fur peeps with nueropathy. Mommy tried to take it but it made her so drunk she couldn't see straight. Or any other way fur dat matter. Hopefully it'll work well fur you tho'. Not sure 'bout your pops. MOL You be lookin' good as always.

    Luv ya'

  18. Sorry you had such a tough day. My niece's Maine Coon gets that medicine before he goes and he gets sleepy, but once he gets there, they still need to knock him out to do anything. He is s sweet cat, but freaks at the vets.

  19. CK glad you did so well at the V.E.T. We didn't do to bad, lots of hissing and growling, but our vet is nice too so it isn't horrible like have heard from some kitties. Ralphie reacted to his rabies shot (required since we are town kitties and Mom can be fined if we aren't vaccinated for it) otherwise all went about as smooth for us and we sang a great song of our people for Mom!

  20. CK, you obviously did not hiss and growl enough. You gotta be like me. Try lunging at the vet and the tech when they look at you sitting in PTU. They won't try to mess with you. That's what I did today when I had to go to the vet for my annual visit. All the vet could do was give me my rabies shot and grab some of my bloods (because I take some medicine, I have to have yearly blood work done). She tried to listen to my lungs but I was growling so loud, she couldn't hear a thing except my growling. She didn't even try to look at my teeth. Oh yeah...a little 10 pound cat like me really had those vet people quaking in their vet shoes. ~Zoey

  21. Wow, what an ordeal. My Eddie Bear refused to go in a carrier. He'd go spread eagle on me and I swear he became an octopus. I always had to wrap him in a towel and put him in the carrier & close the door. He'd unwrap himself and then he was fine.
I'm glad the vet thinks you're doing well. Sounds like you have normal "adult" kitty things going on and all is well.

  23. Gabapentin is a seizure drug also used for people with chronic neuropathy pain. I tried it twice for my neuropathy and it sent me into shooting pains all over my body 20 times worse than the neuropathy ever did. I ended up in the e/r both times. Watch it very closely if you do try it because it can cause worse reactions than without it.

  24. Wonderful news about your health and no longer having to get those vaccinations. Our vet told our mom that research is showing that most of the vaccines last longer than was thought. Your Dr. D sounds great. Just like our Dr. Neel. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta. Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  25. None of my kitties have ever been scared at the vet. The car ride - yes, but in the vets office, no. I always take them out of the carrier as soon as we get in a room, and they wander around and try to look out the window (which is usually way high up) and I talk to them and generally act like its no big deal. Maybe you get stressed because your humans expect you to? Sometimes I even take them out of the carrier in the waiting room even if there are dogs there and just hold them on my lap. They must stay calm because I am always calm. Anybody else have thoughts on this?
