Cat Mothers are the Best

Cat Mothers are the Best

Happy Mother's Day to all Feline Moms and humans who have been adopted by cats. Today I'm celebrating Mother's Day for those special feline moms who birthed us and made sure we received a good start in life. Many cats don't know who their real mothers are while others come from breeders or are lucky enough to live under the same roof as their cat mom. Some feral cats aren't that lucky and had to be bottle- or syringe-fed by humans. No matter, unless you popped out of her, your human mom may call herself your mom but she's really The Woman. I know that seems harsh but it's something I've been meaning to say for awhile. I have to explain all the time why TW isn't my Mom. My Mom was a beautiful feline with four paws and a long tail who, if you read my Gotcha Story, left me all too soon.

Today's art is showcasing a few feline moms that we have pictures of—Gertrude and Sissiknyfe, who was Chizzy's Mom.

Cat Mothers are the Best

TW loves this pic of Sissy aka Whitey White Knyfe with her big, sad eyes. Chizzy is nursing on her here. It was taken in their birthing box. Chizzy must have had a different Dad than his two all-white fursibs. This painting was made using a Paint Pro 3 action. On Mother's Day, we salute Sissy and her Mom Scruffy.

Cat Mothers are the Best

A light leak action makes it look like Sissy and the brood are blessed by the heavens above and perhaps they were. Unfortunately her two white kittens were adopted by families who let them roam the neighborhood. Their young lives were cut short along with other outdoor cats by a crazy Vietnam vet who left poisoned food out for them. There are so many dangers to letting your cats roam outdoors.

Cat Mothers are the Best

This final posterized pic shows Gertrude and Whitey eating in harmony with some of the kitties. Believe me, there was little harmony between the two families. The kitties all wanted to play with each other but Gertrude didn't want her kits associating with "Whitey trash." Gertrude was a great mom. The day after she came home from having her Ladygardenectemy, she threw herself repeatedly against a chain link fence—stitches and all—to save one of her kitties. He had wandered into a yard not knowing there was a huge killer dog in it. Both were unharmed. We salute Gertrude also.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Thanks to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty for hosting the Caturday Art Blog Hop so I can mess around with Photoshop and all the cool online apps that are so easy a cat can do them.

  1. I loved hearing about these two moms! It's really hard, being a mom in the conditions they had to deal with.

  6. Some cat moms will protect their youngins forever. Our Queen Mom, who by the way is our Gertrude's Mom, still remembers some of her children. Ohs comes and visits her in the house. They love seeing each other. Great story.

  20. My Mama has been lost in the mists of time, but I like to think she was floofy black girl. All us four kittens was floofy black kids. No, the Human is good to me, but she doesn't have any fur and she can't purr. Not my Mama. XOXOXOXO Thanks for the ant advice--we're testing out the cinnamon by the kitchen sink. It makes an awful mess but it's worth it if it keeps the little critters out! Smells pretty good.
