Guess what? TW found my "beach ball" that's been missing for years! She also found one of the fake Skinneeez shmousy toys that was lost! This is big news! |
I promised you an update on my Burd-tv situation and here it is complete with
Phase 2 will indeed be four stories as planned. I'll give you a few moments to BOO loudly. There will be landscaping so I may have some Burd-tv, however the peeps NYC view is very much in jeopardy. The top three stories will be recessed on either side to allow for landscaping, we believe. They'll be some room between that building and our window. They were going to call TW back to tell her the exact height of the building but she may have to call them. The plans say our building is six stories above ground due to our cathedral ceilings and theirs will be four but they look like they'll be the same height to us.
The Noise Level
I'm coping as best I can. Last Monday was hard. I was very scared with the racket of the saws and sledge hammers but now I seem to be taking it in stride as the new norm. I wanted to go into my office UTB but TW kept reassuring me that I was safe. I've been dealing with noise since we moved in because they're always doing overnight construction on the Lincoln Tunnel and the helix however that's not right under our window.

They have the whole roof torn off the first building and have it down to the stone walls. We don't know if they're gonna jack hammer the floor out to put the pipes in or not.
Believe it or not, after this the noise doesn't stop. They're renovating our complex too. In June we'll be getting a new roof. TW said when they installed the last roof, she thought they were gonna come right through the ceiling. Not only that, but when they have to lift the a/c condensers, we'll be without air conditioning for a few days. If they do our building last, we could be without a/c during the hottest week in July.

The Cat Tree I was Promised
That's still very much in play if they can decide how to rearrange the furniture. The reason TW wanted to get that particular tree in the first place was cos she figured I may be able to see over the new house if I was on the tippy top. There will be some number crunching and some furniture rearranging and hopefully it can become a reality. TW has looked online and found it for a cheaper price but they still balk at junking that old rocking chair.
That's the straight poop thanks to Google Earth. I spent a lot of this weekend on the window cos I won't go there while they're working. Hope you guys watched some Burd-tv for me over the weekend.

Ugh, what a PITA! When I first moved here, it was when the retaining wall was being rebuilt and that was REALLY noisy! But at least it didn't impact my view.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I'm so sorry you have to endure all that noise. Paws crossed that you will have some slivers of sunshine between the 2 and 4 story buildings. It's too bad you don't have access to your roof - maybe you could get some big potted plants up there that would attract birds.
ReplyDeleteWell, this all sounds troubling - especially the noise and the no sunshine - hopefully, the cat tree will give you a few slivers of light. I LOVED your diagrams so much!
ReplyDeleteThis is just unacceptable, CK. Making all that noise just to build something that's going to block your view and bird TV? I hope you've given everyone involved a piece of your mind. Purrs, and I hope you can fit in some bird TV this week despite all that noise!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you have to deal with all the noises they make.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you won't have to spend middle of summer without a/c when they renovate your complex.
I would not be one bit surprised, CK, if the next thing you will tell us is that you marched over there with your highly cool plans in hand and told those people they should hire you ON THE SPOT to do the job right!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer CK! Taking away your access to bird tv and car tv is cruel. How about TW and the air circulation when a condo goes up so close to the windows. I wonder if the circulation will get stale, The summer you'll have a/c but what about the fall and spring?
ReplyDeleteShoko
OH we don't like the sounds of that!
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry you have to deal with so much noise. Purrs
ReplyDeleteCrazy times for sure CK. I think they need you as snoopervisor. Then it would get built right
ReplyDeleteOh, the noise sounds awful. They are building new bridges for the highway that runs past our house, and we have been listening to pile-driving all night. We hope that everyone's construction noises go away soon!
ReplyDeleteck..... de inn vite ta trout towne iz all wayz open.....noe noize, burd free views.....oh wait......noe noize, fish a plentee in de waterz surroundin uz...may bee bloo skiez, dee pendin on de fore cast.....

Sounds like you're in for a noisy and possibly hot summer, CK. What a bummer. But I will be looking forward to your commentary on it all.
ReplyDeleteWell, that just sucks, CK. First all the noise...then losing your view. It's just not right!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Several years ago we had tons of road work done in front of our house and the noise was horrible...I can't even imagine listening to all the construction you're facing!
ReplyDeleteDang CK, that kind of noise would drive me crazy, but it's a short trip.
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOO! That stinks, CK. All that noise, and the possibility of no Burd TV?! Horrible. :(
ReplyDeleteYou poor beleaguered darling! How dare they inconvenience you in such a high-handed fashion!? Well, hopefully there'll be enough landscaping to provide some birdies and who knows? Maybe nekkid sunbathing peeps to watch! Ha ha ha--that's always good for some MOLs! And me. You have ME! XOXOXOX
ReplyDeleteWe hate you may be losing your bird TV and to deal with the noise on top of it!
ReplyDeleteOh CK me doesn't even know what to say. Me's sorry this is happenein'. Me can tell ya' dat a new roof is very unsettlin'. Da noise is horrific. Fankfully it doesn't last fur long. Good to know you should be gettin' da new tree, hope it works out fur ya'. And finally, a belated Happy Mother's day to TW.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi
This is a nightmare CK - a total and absolute nightmre. Call them OK Call them! Don't let up if your light will be affected.
ReplyDeleteIt stinks that your view of burd TV is going to be blocked. The people who build apartment complexes never think of that stuff when they decide to add on. I hope that the construction doesn't last too long. Those noises can be so stress-inducing! *hugs*
