Wednesday Word—Share

I want this WW to be positive although I could have chosen a different word for this Wednesday. More about that later.

How many of you are on Triberr? I just joined a week or so ago and am slowly learning the nuances. It ain’t user friendly, that’s for sure. I even started my own tribe, where all my furrends are welcome. It’s called C.W.A. (Cats With Attitude). I almost wish I had a logo for it cos I love that name so much. I didn’t want to have my own tribe but once that name hit me, I knew it needed to be used.

Triberr is not really a place to chat, although you can. It’s mostly about sharing each other’s blog posts. Here’s what the stream looks like and how to share.

You can hover over the green button to schedule a post or use the blue “share” icon under the post. The hover only lets you share to Twitter but the icon lets you share on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ or StumbleUpon (whatever that is). By far the easiest way to share is to follow someone and make sure Yes is in blue under Auto-share posts.

Now comes the negative, which I’ll try to keep brief. There is sharing like we do on Triberr and there is plagiarism. On Saturday, I got a Facebook friend request from someone I didn’t know. I usually give them the once over to see if they’re safe. Do we have mutual friends? Do they have cat content? Do we share political/social consciousness?  Everything checked out so I hit OK. A few hours later, she sent me a request to Like her Fan Page. I went over to have a look-see. Lo and behold, there were about 10 of my photos staring me in the face. They were shared—shared from HER FB profile, not mine. I bet she thought I’d be impressed that she liked my images so much that she put them on her page and her timeline.

For those not on FB, each post/photo gives you the option to Like, Comment, and Share. I love when someone shares my content. I especially love when someone shares content from my Stunning Keisha fan page. It happens so seldom. I do NOT like when someone downloads my content to their computers and uploads it and shares it as their own.

I tried to keep it civil and told her those were MY copyrighted images and they should be credited to me. She still didn’t link back to me. OK, time for the heavy artillery. I called out the army. The Army of Cat Bloggers. In an instant, my furrends came to my defense and started commenting on her page that she stole my photos. Instead of doing the right thing, she started blocking me and everyone who left a comment.

I give people like her the back of disrespect.
To this day, I hear she still hasn’t taken the photos down but as long as it stops here and she doesn’t steal anymore, I’m not gonna make a big deal out of it. I’m not about to give her or her page anymore publicity but if you want to know who to look out for, drop me an e-mail.

I don’t understand why FB makes it so easy to download another’s content and so difficult to report it. I think they’re still mad they lost that case where they wanted everything posted on FB to become their property. As far as I’m aware, anything published online is copyrighted and should be protected. I guess some people didn’t get the memo.

I’m gonna end this post with a birthday shout out to Mollie and Alfie’s Mom, Stella. Hope this works as a yoga pose.

  1. Dat really stinks. It seems like so many peeps think it is ok to steal other's photos. Our photos are our copyrighted images - the minute we take them.

  2. CK! What the heck are you doin' in that picture!?

It's weird--I dunno why anyone would want to take someone else's pictures and stick them on their own blog. I mean, apart from it being, well, wrong, it seems kind of pathetic, like copying a poem and pretending you wrote it. Sigh. People need to paddle their own (content) canoe, or something. Maybe I need a better metaphor, ha ha meow. Come over later and be bad with me.

  3. I keep meaning to go over to see what's up at Triberr, but I've been really busy with stuff for Cat World Domination Day!

  5. We're trying to decide if we should stick around Triberr or not. What happens is we see a post on FB and think "we should use Triberr and share that" and then can't find it or most of the other posts we would usually see or share on it either, and we get frustrated. It may not be the right tool for us, but we're going to keep trying it for a little longer because it seems like such a good idea... if we could figure out why it doesn't work like we expect.

  6. We tried Triberr but decided it was just way too much work just trying to understand how it worked. So we left...or so we think we did...

We went to check out that FB Fan Page but found no pictures of you there. Guess she has taken them down from her page? Not sure who this individual is so wasn't able to check her profile page.

We hope no one takes OUR pictures without permission. Mommy is considering making our watermark bigger and probably in the center of our pictures to prevent such "thefts".

  7. I've never heard of Triberr. But I like the name C.W.A., too!
It's too bad your images were stolen :-( I sure hope the person won't steal any more.

  10. Sigh...I just haven't had the time to sit down and try to figure out Triberr yet.

And the FB mess just shows that you can't trust anybody nowadays, sadly.

  11. Wow - that sucks. We have been subjected to theft...yet, but I sure hope we don't. We're on Triberr too and it took some getting used to. Have to figure out how to join as SlimKitty so I can get into the cat tribes.

  12. We are not on FB and haven't even heard of Triberr. What has happened to you sounds pawful and so wrong. We all like to think most humans are honest and trustworthy, and it sucks when they are not. We hope this bad person who has done this to you is not doing the same to others. BTW: Terrific yoga pose. 14. CK "share" is a very nice way to explain all of this. Taking someone photo without giving them the correct link back is wrong unless you have their permission to use their image.

  15. I'm confused 'bout the Tribrr.. Trbrrr.. MOUSES! Can't even spell it, apparently. Bottom line is, I'm confused.

'Bout the copyin' versus sharin' thing? I'm with you on that. We all are. We're all standin' right there beside you.

  16. Hmm Triberr sounds pretty cool! We will have to look into it. That is terrible about that person stealing your photos, CK! People can be so disrespectful and rude. We hope she has learned her lesson and doesn't try to steal anyone else's photos. We are sorry that happened to you.

  17. Triberr does sound cool, CK! We're so sorry that person stole your content. That is just flat out wrong.

  18. Crap! I typed a really long comment and blogger ate it. Not doing it again. Sorry. I was answering some of your concerns.

  19. I'm sorry to hear about your stolen content - that really sucks! We must go check out Triberr at some stage, but there are so many social media channels out there and there is a danger of spreading yourself too thin.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I just joined Triberr, but you're right about it not being user friendly. I'm going to have to spend some time to figure it out.

  22. Thanks for the triberr tutorial, CK! That helps a lot!
...and hey, I just might be able to set you up with a logo. ; )

Sorry about the copycat plagiarizer. I know how that feels...especially when their response is less than civil. Hang in there. Keep stunning.
    xoxo

  23. Whoa what the heck?! Haven't heard of anything like that just yet. I also meant to tell you that it's great that you've put the cat tribe together. There are tons of dog tribes, but I really don't ever see any cat ones. And there aren't too many cat bloggers in my tribes either. So yay for cats! If y'all have any questions about Triberr, I been there for a long time. But you've explained it really well.

  24. Wow, that's horrible! Won't FB do anything about the image theft? :(

  25. OH WOW! I need to check into it. Thanks CK and I hope to pete sakes that be==never happens to anyone again!
