Real World, Real Results #Hillspet

Yo! This is Cathy Keisha and welcome to #HillsPet’s version of The Biggest Loser—Pet Edition. It’s been fun guest hosting this fabulous show where we talk about overweight cats and dogs and how we can help them take off the extra poundage. Over the past year, your host—ME—has lost a pound just talking about it!

Today, we have a special guest, who I’ll innerduce you to later. This cat has actually been ON the Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution diet for the past 2 months. Before we meet our special guest, I’d like to tell you a bit about this diet, where you can still eat yummy food and lose weight too!

I’ve told you the grim statistics on overweight pets: In the U.S., 55% of cats are now overweight or obese. In fact, in the past five years, the number of overweight cats has increased by 90%! These facts come to me from a study done at the Banfield Pet Hospital State of Pet Health two years ago.

I've defined metabolism for you. It converts the fuel in the food we eat into the energy needed to power everything we do and discussed some key points about this advanced prescription diet. I’m gonna refresh your memory on those key points.
  • once on this diet, an overweight animal’s metabolism changes to act more like that of a lean animal.
  • this highly efficient energy metabolism profile is maintained after weight loss is achieved
  • Clinically-proven nutrition is provided that naturally activates metabolism to burn calories and regulate appetite
  • your pet becomes more active, wants more playtime and has a better quality of life and you have a better relationship with your pet.
I’ve told you about how Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution has been proven to work in clinical trials and in homes like yours and mine with real pets and their staff. Over 300 pets took part in a veterinarian supervised in-home study. 88% of those pets lost weight in two months, without strict protocols or precise measuring. Eight out of 10 pet staffs said they’d recommend this highly palatable cat food to a friend with an overweight pet.

Real results in the real world. Now let’s meet one of those real pets who’s on the diet—and doesn’t she look great!—Maggie, from The Tiniest Tiger. Maggie is just 4 years old and has had a hard time these past couple of years. She lost her human Mom and then she was brought into a home with two young kittens. Maggie had been an only cat, like myself, and couldn’t get acclimated. Maggie, perhaps, you can tell us what happened next.

Maggie: Foster Mom Joanne noticed my breathing was labored when I would sleep on her desk in the office. She thought that maybe part of the reason I couldn’t get along with the monsters, Annie and Eddie, was that I just didn’t feel good. After a thorough check up with the veterinarians, I got a clean bill of health, other than being overweight. I weighed *blush* almost 14 lbs when I first came to live with them, so they thought it might be my weight preventing me from enjoying myself. I was a lazy player and would only swat the red dot when it came too close to me and I never jumped up on the cat tree. She’d noticed I looked overweight when I lived with my Mom but didn’t know I needed to lose over 5 lbs.

CK: Uh oh. Here’s where you tell me how she withheld food from you and starved you half to death, right?

Maggie: By the time foster mom learned about the new Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution diet, I was living in my second furever home with Mom Vicki, a friend of my first human Mom.

Maggie getting measured at the vet.
They took me back to the vet for a checkup, measurements and recommended food portions so I could start on the Hill’s diet. Since it’s prescription, your vet needs to sign off on it. I weighed 13.1 lbs at the beginning of the program and my goal weight is 7.7 lbs. Dr. Teresa said she would be thrilled if I weighed 8 lbs. One of the great things about this diet is I get to eat wet food and dry kibble, and even treats.  I’m not starved at all!

My new Mom loves how super easy it is to measure the food and how much I love it. She feeds me upstairs and downstairs so she gets exercise running up and down stairs. I’m a much happier cat since I started eating the Hill’s® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution.

CK: What are some of your favorite activities to help you lose weight?

Maggie: I love to be outside on the deck. I also loving playing with my wand toy and I’ve been doing a lot more running and jumping since I’ve been on the Hill’s Metabolic food.

CK: Maggie, I know that ladycats don’t like to tell their weight, but can you tell us what you weigh now?

Maggie: When I first came to my foster home last June, I weighted 15 lbs. I don’t know how I let myself go like that. I was 13.1 lbs when I started the Hills diet. I now weigh in at a little over 11 lbs! I am loving the food and my new home where I’m the only cat. I even have an enclosed yard to run around in. Yes, I run around again and I’m a happy cat!

CK: Maggie is our Biggest Winner for sure. She’s a beautiful ladycat and you can see the happiness in her eyes. Thank you, Maggie for telling your story to my readers.  Let’s give her a round of applause. She’s been through so much and come through a winner!

  4. That is such a wonderful interview CK and Maggie sure done good! We wish there was something like this in non-Rx since the Vets in our area are really poor about having anything RX in stock when you need it. We also haven't figured out how to feed this to just one cat out of seven.
