Help for the Flabby Tabby #HillsPet

TW’s family got their first cat when she was a teenager. Faith E. Girl was always a slight cat and every year without fail, the Vet used to ax Gramma “don’t you ever feed your cat?” Gramma tried everything to get Faith to eat, even giving her luncheon meat because she wouldn’t eat cat food. Her weight hovered around 6 lbs. Despite—or maybe because of—her slight built, Faith lived a healthy life into her mid-teenage years before she succumbed to cancer.

As a direct result of the Vet’s chiding about Faith’s weight, Gramma overfed the cat who came after Faith. He gobbled up two 6-oz cans of food every day in addition to having kibble always available.
Meet Chizzy—all 25 lbs of Chizzy. Chizzy’s real name was Tymmy aka Big Tym but everyone called him Chizzy because he was the epitome of the macho cat. Yes, he was neutered but still had that swagger. He was also the epitome of the overweight cat. For some reason, they considered overweight cats to be happy and healthy. I’m here to tell you they’re not either.

These days, Chizzy would have a lot of company. In the U.S., 55% of cats are now overweight or obese. In fact, in the past five years, the number of overweight cats has increased by 90%! These facts come to me from a study done at the Banfield Pet Hospital State of Pet Health two years ago. This little svelte kitteh is so overwhelmed by these facts that I feel the need to share them.
Exercise helps keep me fit and trim.
If only Hill’s Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution was available back in Chizzy’s day. It’s available now in wet stinky goodnessdry kibble and even treats. Believe me, Chizzy loved his treats. It’s easier today than ever to aid in your cat’s weight loss. You just have to stop playing the denial game when the Vet tells you little Rusty or Tippy needs to lose weight or when your friends nickname your cat Plumpy.

Chizzy was One Big Kitty. Here’s another big kitty in this cute video. If you can’t see it, this is the YouTube link.

I’ve seen the torture of diets on my furrend’s blogs. No pet parent likes to withhold treats and cut down portions, even when it’s to help their pet lose weight. It isn't fun for kitty or their staff and it’s usually a fail since neither party has their heart in it. Kitty is hungry and will pester their staff until the staff caves and slips them an extra meal.

Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution is safe, effective, and fast and you’ll see results in just 60 days. I hear you axing, CK, just how does this work? Well, it’s clinically proven nutrition that naturally activates metabolism to burn fat and regulate appetite. Huh? What’s that mumble jumble mean? It means you’ll feel full and you’ll still lose weight, while retaining muscle. Plus, if there’s another kitty in the house who’s NOT on a diet, it’s safe for them. Of course you’ll still have to play and exercise so tell your staff to get out the wand toy daily—not once a week.

"CK, I hear you but don’t believe what you’re saying." Believe me when I say I’m keeping it real. I don’t need no diet but Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution has been proven to work in clinical trials and in homes like yours and mine with real pets and their staff. Over 300 pets took part in an at-home feeding frenzy study. 88% of those pets lost weight in two months. Whoa, I’m beginning to sound like Jenny Craig! If you don’t trust me—and those are fighting words—eight out of 10 pet staffs said they’d recommend this highly palatable cat food to a friend with an overweight pet.

  8. Wow Chizzy was a very big kitty!
I'm watching one of my boys' weight. His weight is in normal range so far but vet doesn't want him to gain more. The other boy still keeps good weight but I have to be careful with too much treats.
    Happy Saturday!

  9. What a well-written post, CK! Ashton's diet has her down to better weight, so we don't need to enter. We would rather see someone whose kitty needs the help win the prize.

  10. This is a very important post. Sometimes people get confused that having a pet fat it means is healthy and that couldn't farther from the truth. That could bring serious health problems for them. Thank you for sharing this.

  17. This is great info, CK! We hope we never need to be on a diet...though the mom has cut back a little on the amount of foods we eat.

  18. This is a very informative post CK. I am a very picky eater and some days hardly touch my food, other days I will eat as many as 4 or 5 -3 1/2oz tins of food, 2 for breakfast and 2-3 for supper. My ideal weight is 13lbs but I have lost some now and am just over 12lbs, that is why my mum lets me have as much as I want when I will eat it. I don't get kibble. I never put on weight because I am always running around and catching mousies.

  19. Our Mommy says we're fit, so we hope some kitty with EXL appetite will win the prize :)

  20. Unlike my Human, I am a fairly slender kitty (I'm all FUR I tell you!)--maybe not QUITE as slender as I was before The Great Outrage, but still pretty svelte.

Love you, my sweet! The Human's working on your Prize, darling, and it should be mailed sometime this week! XOXOXO

  22. Well done CK. Now I'm wondering if I should have entered this campaign for Domino. He's hefty and borderline, ahem, portly.

  23. When I went to the v-e-t last week I weighed in at a healthy 5.1kgs (we're European ya know!!), but Tigger! He's another story! I am sure he eats at about ten different houses!! Mum has to stop him eating my food. It's an ongoing battle!!

  24. This sounds pretty pawsome. Mom wants to know if it works for humans. MOL! Calista Jo might be looking a little plump, but we are now eating Hill's CD formula 'cause of Lisbeth's urinary problem as well as our 1/8 can of stinky goodness each morning and evening. We never get human food and very limited treats. So, we won't ask to be entered in your contest. But we will certainly ask the VET about this if she ever says we need to lose weight. Thanks for the info, C.K. Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  25. CK, you did an excellent job on this post. I am one of those kitties who has been on this d.i.e.t. since the 8th of November. I have lost 1 whole pound and am working on my next pound. I feel so much better and have been zooming around the house a whole lot more too.
