My Lucky Number's One

I consider myself lucky. I'm an only cat. Every piece of cat furniture and every morsel of cat food in the condo belongs to me. I don't have to fight to get the best cat bed or the best sun puddle or to use the litter box first after it's been cleaned. I am numero uno. Many cats aren't so lucky.

My Lucky Number's One

It's another Music Monday so I'm joining the Music Moves Me blog hop hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others. July's honorary conductor is Michelle of Musings & Merriments. She chose songs with numbers in the title for this week's theme. I promise I will try to stay away from the obvious choices. I'll be sharing cover versions of some popular songs cos I'm DJCK and this is my show. I'm gonna do a countdown of sorts from 10 down to one. We went to our iTunes to fill in the numbers that didn't pop into our heads. "Lucky Number" is today's theme song.

TW saw Lene once at Hurrah. The show lasted way late and she and her date wound up sleeping in the Port Authority Bus Terminal because the last bus had come and gone and there wasn't another one until 6 a.m.

Let's start the countdown. I'm gonna share links but not the whole videos cos I don't want this to get too long.

Number Ten is represented by the Long Ryders, one of the paisley underground bands from the '80s hailing from California.

Number Nine R.E.M. "9-9"
Number Eight Husker Du "8 Miles High"
Number Seven R.E.M. "7 Chinese Brothers"

At Number Six, Boston band The Neats are a good party band. This song contains the titles of lots of other number songs like "Love Potion #9" and "96 Tears."

Number Five Patti Smith "54321 Wave"
Number Four Yo La Tengo "4th Time Around"

Bonus for Number Four. Johnny Rivers covered this Bob Dylan song on his Realization album, one of Pop's all-time favorite album's. It's also one of the most overlooked records of the late '60s. Bob Dylan even said he preferred this version to his own.

Number Three Jim Carroll Band "Three Sisters"
Number Two Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band "Two Hearts"

Number One is a star-studded duet with members of U2 and R.E.M. which was recorded at MTV's Inaugural Ball in 1993.

Click here for the entire number playlist. There are other songs than these I've linked to here which I'm sure you won't want to miss, she says with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

  1. Mom doesn't know most of these songs or the bands doing the covers. Maybe you had to be part of the New York scene to have heard of them. We agree that being #1 is the best. We have to take turns around here. You are very lucky, C.K. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

  5. I feel you are very lucky as #1 cat in the house. I am forever fighting with this little white ball of fluff but I kinda miss her when she isn't hanging around my neck and I have to go look for hr so I can hiss in her face.

  7. Like you, I am the only kitty at my house. I do feel luck that way, I guess. I do wonder sometimes what it would be like to have a kitty fursib. I started dancin' right away with that first tune you posted! (tapping paw, shaking floofy booty) I hope your momma's boyfriend stayed safe in that bus terminal that late at night. 8. That was quite the countdown, CK. Zoey wishes she was the only one around here.

  9. Mudpie loves the number one for the exact same reasons! We had fun putting together this week's challenge...it brought back a lot of concert memories, though none as interesting as sleeping in the Port Authority Bus Terminal!!!

  10. I can't watch videos because of my slow internet. :( Plus, I realized that I missed wishing TW a happy birthday on Friday. Sorry to hi-jack your music Monday post. :) Happy Birthday TW!!!

  11. That's a good playlist for the day. And we don't know what we'd do if any of us were the only one.

Thank you for your kinds words today over our loss of sweet Sunny. We very much appreciate them, take comfort with them, and know that Sunny's spirit does as well.

  13. What a great countdown list! I think Olive probably wishes she were the only cat here. But she tolerates the others nicely. Well, except for Sophie.

  14. DJ CK. We'd totally go to any party you're DJing, CK. Great taste!

  15. Mom just LOVES to come and see your tunes on HUMP DAY - CK the DJ! She says there is nothing better to get her started on the rest of the week. And this week..she has 2 words SPEC TACULAR!
And I will no longer be the 1 and only after Caturday this week. I, Marvelous am getting a little apprehensive about having another permanent cat...or at least a long term room mate.

  17. Keisha,

I suspect your mom is a bit younger than me. The 80s should've been a very memorable decade for mewsic for me since I was in college for the first 2 to 3 before moving into the working force which eventually led to early retirement with the onset of our first kiddo. The truth is I only recall the biggest POP tunes with some gentle prodding. It's gonna sound very strange to you but the only song in your lineup to ring a bell is U2's 'One'. I thought I would've at the very least recognized Springstein's 'Two Hearts' but it didn't sound familiar. The other artists were out of my 80s listening realm for the most part. Your play set was a wealth of introductions which I'm thankful that you opened my mind to these. Thanks for the late boogie. I thought I danced with you earlier in the week. *smack forehead8 Yep, I'm goofy! Have a songsational day, my friend. ;)

  18. DJCK, you're number one with me! You never cease to amaze me, too. That is quite the countdown! - Tom x

  19. This was (I say it in a good way) over the top! I knew several of the songs but not the artists covering. The Neats (new to me) were...neat. Just think, you could have just used Six all by itself and fulfilled the theme requirement. I've heard of Yo La Tengo but I think this may be my first song. It probably won't be the last. Thank you for the music! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
