In condo news, the neighbor has been away all weekend so it's been quiet. The peeps ran into their realtor friend the other day. She told them that the neighbor was a realtor himself so he should know better. She's gonna kinda run interference for us. Hopefully this can all be settled without any lasting hard feelings or me having the come after him with teeth and claws. I will, you know.

Today is Music Monday and I'm joining the Music Moves Me blog hop hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others. This week is a freebie. Woot! There are so many topics and themes to pick from. The leader of my posse is one Tuna R'son Kitty who's infatuated with fire. Also, living in da hood, you hear sirens all day and night long—po-po, fire, ambulances, etc. With Tuna in mind, I'm gonna pick a few songs.
This ancient 1968 song has been covered by everyone from Ozzy to Emerson, Lake & Palmer and even disco-fied by Lizzy Mercier Descloux. I'm not sure but Arthur Brown could be the godfather of metal music.
I used to play this one all the time to get the anipals dancing at Nipclub. Everbuddy get on the dancefloor!
Harry Chapin was one of Pop's favorite artists. He was just a regular guy from Long Island making music who's life was cut short way too early. This song about a fire in a house full of hippies which the conservative firemen wanted to "take it slow, let them sweat a little" takes on a new meaning in 2018 after the Supreme Court ruled that a baker didn't have to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple. What's to stop a fire department from refusing to fight a fire in a mosque or gay dance club? The album version is more dramatic but this one is more stark and emotional.
Robert Gordon and the Pointer Sisters also recorded this Springsteen song. Most people know their versions rather than Bruce's.
R.E.M.'s "The One I Love" describes the spark of love. Funny story. The only time TW took Pop with her to Athens, GA, the woman in this video, Caroline, was their waitress at the Bluebird Cafe one morning. She had her eye on Pop too and kept coming over to see if he needed anything while ignoring the two ladies at the table. Pop was completely oblivious. MOL! Good old Pop!
I've shared my songs and stories for today. I hope you enjoyed reading/listening. Everyone has different tastes in music so please be polite when commenting. Peace out.
Great choices as always CK!
ReplyDeleteWe're still sending Aunt Pauline purrs.
I love your stories about the music videos. My human enjoyed them even more.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm sending lots of purrs to Aunt Pauline.
ReplyDeleteWe need to embrace tolerance, no matter what the court says. Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed wouldn't have turned away ANYONE, right? "Love is all you need!" Sending hugs and purrs to Aunt Pauline; the good she's done for kittykind will help her too!
ReplyDeleteGreat song track, CK! We're still sending good thought and purrs to Aunt Pauline. Please thank her from us for helping those stray kitties with her bag of kibbles.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your Aunt Pauline is back in the hospital. What a wonderful person she is to help homeless kitties. I hope she gets better soon.

ReplyDeleteI send my best wishes for Pauline. No one should have to go through this kind of thing. Why is there no cure yet eh WHY????
ReplyDeleteLove the Arthur Brown. Love his name too, nowadays he would need to be called something much more exotic I reckon!
You always spin great tunes CK! Purrs and prayers to Aunt Pauline from all of us!
ReplyDeleteContinued purrayers for Aunt Pauine ! She certainly set a good example for you Mom !
ReplyDeleteI am sorry your Aunt Pauline had a setback, she is in my prayers. She sounds like a very nice woman. I like this Harry Chapman song, I had not heard it before. And that is a good point about what happened with that cake, it really angered me when the supreme court made that ruling. XO
ReplyDeleteWe're always purring for your Aunt Pauline, CK! She sounds like such a special purrson. Tell TW that the other day I was typing "remember" into the iPad and it auto-corrected to R.E.M. What the heck made that happen?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteHoping that Aunt Pauline gets better. I loved your mix. Anytime that you can include REM, you are doing good. Thanks for sharing that cool mix and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your Aunt Pauline. We're sending purrs your way.
ReplyDeleteYou sure have a talent for finding interesting music.
Re: the supreme court ruling, this article has a really good explanation. https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2018/06/supreme-court-rules-favor-anti-gay-baker-wedding-cake-case/
We think it's important to note that .....
“The court reversed the Masterpiece Cakeshop decision based on concerns unique to the case but reaffirmed its longstanding rule that states can prevent the harms of discrimination in the marketplace, including against LGBT people.” said Louise Melling, deputy legal director of the ACLU.
Both Mom & Dad have LGBT family members, so we think the anti-gay cr@p is just that (Cr@p based on 16-th century religious ignorance and fear), but we're hopeful the SCOTUS will not turn the US too far back.
We’re purring mega purrs for your Aunt Pauline. Any human that did that for the community cats deserves everybuddy’s purrs. We hope she’ll be okay.
ReplyDeleteCathy,
ReplyDeleteI hope Aunt Pauline is well again soon. We'll say a prayer for her. Your last two selections are the only ones I really know. I prefer The Pointer Sisters cover of "Fire" over the Boss.
Thanks for boogieing with me, my friend. Have a tunetastic week! ;)
Oh CK, we don't know any of those songs or peeps, but hey, we do luv dancin'. And we furinally posted our Amazin' facts. Mommy totally furgot Sunday. Humans, sometimes we think we need a trade. MOL We hope ya'll can get this thing with your neighbor worked out. Mommy hates noisy, nosy and obnoxious neighbors. She's had a few in her lifetime. Big hugs
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi and Raena
I am sorry your Aunt Pauline is back in hospital and I send good thoughts and prayers for her.
ReplyDeleteI used to love the Arthur Brown version of Fire and haven't heard it in a long time. The video was so different for all those years ago too. Made people sit up and take notice!
Hey this was a fun set of songs! My favorite is probably Fire. That will be my earworm for a few days. And thats okay by me. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't remember hearing Bruce's version but I like it.
Another great band: R.E.M. - The One I Love is a favorite of mine.
And everyone needs a little Harry Chapin in their lives!
That one by Dave G was different. I never heard that one before... Thanks for the intro.
Have a great week,
Michele at Angels Bark
We hope Aunt Pauline continues to do better. Yay for some peace and quiet. If you do decide to get the bite-y and fang-y out on the neighbor - at least get us a video!
ReplyDeleteI had not heard that Harry Chapin song before. What passion, what genius in his song writing. This song could have been written today and still had such relevance, as now it is our country that burns. After that, I needed the relief of REM's "The One I Love".
