Hi kitties! Glad you could join me. Today I wanted to explain a little bit about how the summer season affect humans and cats with asthma. As you know, I was diagnosed with asthma about four years ago. Did you know TW has asthma and seasonal allergies also?

Last summer was the worst yet. My asthma kept attacking me and I even made an unscheduled trip to the vet. TW was determined this summer would be easier on both of us which is why she did her due diligence on the best humidifier/air cleaner to help with the dryness and air quality in our condo. This summer, I have a Venta® Airwasher to help with dry, unhealthy air and low humidity. It helps both myself and TW breathe easier, which makes us happier.

Most people have the impression that because the outside air is hot, sticky and humid during the summer, they don't need a humidifier. They'd be wrong. Sometimes the indoor humidity in our condo drops to around 27% when the air conditioning is running 24/7. Your a/c works by removing humidity as well as cooling the dwelling. 40%-50% is where it should be. Lower humidities are unhealthy and are a breeding ground for colds and flu. Even if you don't have asthma, the dry air could be affecting your health.

You can solve this problem by getting a humidifier. But which one?

Bid farewell to pollen, dust, mites, odors, bacteria, and germs with the Venta Airwasher. The Venta Airwasher has been cleaning and humidifying air around the world for over 35 years without the use of filters. Originally designed and built in Germany, Venta Airwasher has been using water as a filtration device to rid your air of such microscopic particles as airborne bacteria, dust and allergens that lead to colds, sinus headaches, dry skin, nosebleeds, allergies and, in my case, asthma flareups.

Why the Venta Airwasher?

Allow CK to explain. Traditional humidifiers pump moisture into the air, while Venta’s revolutionary Cold Evaporation Technology ensures that your air only takes the moisture it needs. This prevents over-humidification which can often lead to the mold and bacteria growth, that makes you sick.

There are three sizes available: Kuublet (LW15) for 200 sq ft or less, Kuube (LW25) for up to 400 sq ft and Kuubel (LW45) for 800 sq ft. We were sent Kuube, who's become a good friend. Venta recommends placing the unit on the floor two feet from the wall, with neither of the venter sides facing the wall to allow proper air circulation.

TW loves the easy maintenance of the Venta Airwasher. There are no expensive filters to buy and replace every few weeks although you will want to buy the Venta Water Treatment Additive (WTA) and the optional Venta cleaner. After she fills Kuube's tank with water and adds 1.7 oz. of the WTA, we're ready to rocknroll. You add more water daily as needed. Every two weeks, pour out the water, rinse out the WTA, add more WTA and refill with fresh water. It's that easy. No daily cleaning required. Every six months, you do a thorough cleaning using either the cleaner or wiping the inside of the unit with white vinegar and water  You can also clean it in the dishwasher. All parts are dishwasher friendly, except the motor and cord.

As a cat with asthma and allergies, I appreciate TW doing her due diligence to ensure I'm breathing the best air I can in our condo, without ozone or any of the other side effects of some humidifiers. After we use it for a couple of months, I'll be back to tell you how my summer went. I like that the Venta Airwasher quietly cleans my air as well as ensures a safe level of humidity so I don't wake with dry air passages which cause my asthma to attack me. Our humidity stays in the mid-40s now.

For 35 years the company has been an industry leader innovating and developing ways to improve indoor air quality. Venta also has a commitment to animals. They were a gold-level sponsor at this year’s Art for Animals event, which is organized by the Eastwood Ranch Foundation to save at-risk animals.

As you can see, we had to make sure the condo was spotless to take this photo. At the end of the summer, I'll be back to let you know how I'm doing and tell you why you need the Venta Airwasher in the winter too and all year long.

  1. I am very happy that the Kuube is helping you CK. It's not fun to have trouble breathing. You would not like MOntana right now with all of the smoke.

  2. I am very happies that it helps you, CK, especially after hearing about your no-good-very-bad couple days last weekend. Good thing you at least had the humidity-maker during that hot time. You can come visit me anytime--our humidity stays between 70% & 80% the whole year. Love you and hope the A/C is behaving as it should! XOXOXO

  8. This sounds like something we need for our house. For a long time I've being searching for the perfect all in one humidifier and air purifier. Nice to know that it won't over humidity which, like you say causes mold. Sarabi used to have asthma years ago but since moving to another country it disappeared and she's fine now.
I would still want to invest in a good one, so thanks for sharing this review with us. 👍

  11. It's good to hear that Kuube is proving to be such a valuable friend. We sometimes run HEPA filters here, but that's mostly to get pollen and other allergens out of the air.

  23. CK Darling,
You KNOW I will be following all the updates knowing the Marv may have asthma or breathing difficulties. Though with the high humidity here (today the humidex is 92%) I am wondering how it would work. I will have to do some investigating!
    Keep up the great reporting!
    Love Barb

  24. It's funny, you don't always think about the humidity in the room when A/C is on. This definitely sounds like a great product, it would help my sister w/ her allergies too. It really "cleans" the air, it seems!

  25. We're so glad this helps you, CK! Our mom is going to look into this. We definitely need a humidifier in the winter because our heat is SO dry! We both get bloody noses.

  26. I really hope this continues to help you throughout the summer months. I love that it not only humidifies, but also filters the air. I may need to look into one of these for my husband who has really bad seasonal allergies. Thanks for sharing!

  27. Wow - now we could do with something like this for the summer. I know air quality can be a big issue for asthmatics, and airborne allergies.

This looks an absolute life saver!

  28. Glad you guys have found something that helps with your asthma and allergies! This sounds like a great humidifier. We have the opposite problem at our house though - at least in our basement. We have a dehumidifier running down there all the time so we don't have mold! We look forward to hearing about how this helps you out!

  29. I'm glad the humidifier helped with your kitty's asthma. Mom had a kitty with asthma but she never did anything about it. But, my sisfur Taffy has chronic bronchitis and she's trying to figure out how the weather, dry or humid effects her. She's been on an inhaler since spring and finally has no more symptoms so we're thinking it's the A/C helping. Love Dolly

  30. Sounds like a great product! I have asthma and terrible dust mite allergies. I've got an air purifier with filters that need changing all the time. Every time I remove the filter I have an asthma attack from handling all of the dust. This water filtration sounds like a much better alternative!

  31. Great review!! Always on the look out for humidifiers, I think it would help. :) Love the photos too. - Shelby

  32. That's really interesting! In Colorado it's super handy to have one. I have on-going sinus issues so I think this could be very helpful. Thanks!

  33. What a wonderful product! I'm happy it is helping, too! As someone who has seasonal allergies, and a few Huskies who get the sneezes, this is something I think I should look into! Thanks for the great review, and I just love the condo pic!

  34. We began using a cool mist humidifier a year ago when Brulee kept getting URI and Mom Paula was coughing so much. Both of us are better now, but we like the sounds of this product! Our AC is on almost year round and this sounds like something we could use.
