That’s the Cat For Me! #FoodShelterLove Helps Cats Become More Adoptable

This post is sponsored by Hill’s. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Hill’s® Food, Shelter, & Love Program, but Stunning Keisha only shares information I feel is relevant to my readers. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. is not responsible for the content of this article.

Every cat is singing the praises of Hill’s® Food, Shelter & Love Program!

Cats wind up in shelters for a variety of reasons; most of which are human fails and shouldn’t reflect negatively on the cat. By “human fails” I mean life changes and not spending the time they should getting to know their cat. Divorce, moving, marriage and having a baby are NOT acceptable reasons to give up a furry family member. Other reasons such as litter box issues, scratching, biting, furniture scratching means that the cat is being ignored. They are also human fails. Allergies don’t count either cos TW is allergic to cats but she wouldn’t live without one. Cats are family members, not disposable property. The only good reason for a cat to be in a shelter is one born on the street such as myself.

Studies show that the way a shelter cat is photographed can help him or her get adopted. No one wants to look at pics of wire cages and unhappy faces. A bright room and pretty blue backdrop worked wonders for me. TW saw my smiling stunning face online, sent the link to Pop and the rest is history.

My squeeable PetFinder photo. Am I not a stunning little darling?

Most people who go to shelters to adopt a new family member look for cats with bright eyes and shiny furs; alert, healthy looking cats or kittens. Sickly and flabby tabbies need not apply. This is where Hill’s® Food, Shelter & Love Program™ comes in.

The Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love™ program is based on encouraging individuals to volunteer at their local shelters; make donations to these shelters and I don’t just mean monetary donations; educating pet parents how nutritious food can help shelter pets; and helping get shelter pets adopted. Towards those aims, they’ve provided over $240 million worth of food to nearly 1000 shelters and have helped over 6 million pets find their furever castles. One of the foods they donate is Hill’s Adult Perfect Weight™ food.

Hill’s Adult Perfect Weight is available in wet and dry formulas and provides breakthrough nutrition formulated to help cats achieve a healthy weight. Prof. Keisha has the 411:

Stoli is a shelter cat who got lucky in more ways than one. After he came to the Denver Dumb Friends League, he was put on Hill’s Perfect Weight food. Then he found a furever home. Here’s his story. You can also view it on YouTube.

Hill’s Perfect Weight not only helps a cat lose weight while in the shelter but helps after the cat is in his or her new furever castle. You can purchase all formulas at Pet360.

Whoa! I blog about Hill’s Perfect Weight and it magically appears!

With the help of the Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love Program, shelters are able to turn a cat from unadoptable or difficult to adopt to a pet that people see online or walk into the shelter and point to and say, “That is the cat for me!” Follow Hill’s on FacebookTwitter and Pinterest.

  1. What a great post! I was lucky, cause somebody brought me and my brofurs and sister to the nice vet's and the Human 'dopted me from there (she had to have them help Clarkie to the Bridge on a Tuesday and by Friday she was calling them up to see if they might have a kitty that needed a home . . .Kismet, eh?) She was feeling a little guilty that she didn't wait a 'decent interval' but the nice people at the vet said that Clarkie would be glad he made her so happy she needed a kitty to feel complete again. Anyway, here I am.

  3. When I was a little girl I underwent allergy testing. One of things I was found to be allergic to was cats. My next appointment the doctor asked my mother if we still had our cat. We wanted to say that I'm allergic to grass too...am I supposed to stop going outside??? Pet allergies are very serious for some people, but I think in many cases it's just a cop out so they don't have to be "bothered".

    Wonderful job as always, CK!

  4. I'm so glad that TW saw that adorable photo of you CK. You're right, there aren't any good reasons for a cat to end up at a shelter and they are all the fault of the humans involved. It's wonderful that Hill's is helping out all of the shelter kitties so they can find forever homes.

  8. We so agree with you, CK. There really aren't too many good reasons that a cat should end up in a shelter. I am allergic to cats, too, but you would be surprised at how much it exposure to them on a regular basis helps. Just saying.

  15. Love this post CK :) I have a feeling that Callie may need to lose just a little bit of weight. It's a good thing that she is playful! I am in need of a feather wand toy for some more activity. We've been using a homemade string thingy which she loves.

  18. LOVE this post, CK. It's always a great thing when popular brands give back to help pets in need! And I couldn't agree more with you about the lame excuses people give for surrendering a pet. There is no excuse, plain and simple. I have to believe there is always a better option; people just have to be willing to do the legwork to find it!
