Hola kitties. It's Catmas Eve and I'm psyched cos I'm gonna be a DJ tonight at the big Twitter #CatmasEve pawty! My shift is from 10pm to 11pm EST. Woot! I know I haven't participated in the Music Moves Me blog hop in a long while so I hope they'll have me.

Rockin' Music Monday #CatmasEve Playlist

@GeorgetheDuck's Catmas Eve is a Twitter pawty which starts at 3pm on the 24th and ends 3am Christmas Day. Donations benefit Black Cat Rescue, a No Kill cat rescue in Boston, MA. My shift is at 10pm. Use the hashtag #CatmasEve on Twitter to join in. You could win some great prizes. The premise behind Catmas Eve is that no one should have to spend Christmas Eve home alone.

I've been playing many of the songs on my #CatmasEve playlist for years so I'd like to spotlight a new Christmas CD that came out this year. TW is obsessed with this CD and has been playing it a lot. If you grew up in the '60s like TW, you likely loved the Monkees, bought some of their hit records and watched their tv show.

There hasn't been a new Monkees' CD in a bunch of years. Davy Jones, who sung many of their songs died in 2012. Their new holiday album on Rhino Records was produced by Fountain of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, with new vocals by Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith (TW's fave as a kid) and Peter Tork and vintage recordings of the late Davy Jones. The CD features some cool guest musicians too.

There are old standards that we all know and love like "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "Silver Bells" but I'm going to share some of the "newer" old "standards."

"Unwrap You at Christmas" is a fun pop song written by Andy Partridge of XTC.

TW just about had an epiphany when she heard the Monkees singing "Jesus Christ" by one of her favorite bands from the '70s—Big Star, whose members included ex-Box Top singer the late Alex Chilton and Chris Bell. Normally she wouldn't be sharing a religious-type song but this is BIG STAR! Is it actually a religious song or is the Chilton-penned song sarcasm as scholars believe the baby Jesus was actually conceived in December and born either in late September or early October?

R.E.M.'s Peter Buck co-wrote and adds some fuzz guitar to the title song "Christmas Party." It reminds TW of the Fleshtones rather then the Monkees which isn't a bad thing.

The last one I'm gonna play for you is perhaps TW's favorite non-standard Christmas song and it's bubblegum sound fits the Monkees perfectly.

Who else wishes it would be Christmas every day? Certainly not TW who still has a millions gifts to wrap before tomorrow.

Thanks to Curious as a Cathy and XMas Dolly for hosting Monday's Music Moves Me blog hop. For some more seasonal music check out the other links.
