Fishing isn't for the faint of heart especially us kitties cos we don't like to get wet. That's why sites like Chewy.com exist. They do the fishing for us. OK, they don't really do the fishing but they supply the food from the brands that do the fishing for us. They sent me a case of Castor & Pollux PRISTINE Grain-Free Wild-Caught Salmon Recipe Morsels in Gravy Cat Food Pouches.

They told me Castor & Pollux PRISTINE is the only complete line of pet food made with responsibly sourced ingredients, Their wild-caught salmon is responsibly caught by a certified sustainable fishery. Real organic produce is grown without synthetic fertilizers or chemical pesticides. PRISTINE is healthy, whole food nutrition prepared for your kitty right here in the USA because better ingredients make better food for our health. You can read about it in the image below and as you know, images don't lie.

I was sent the pouches which are available in chicken, turkey, salmon and whitefish but the PRISTINE line also comes in cans (chicken, salmon and tuna) and dry kibble. If you're sensitive to fish, only the canned chicken is fish-free.

The first time TW put the food in front of me, I walked away. She chased me around the condo until I licked some of the gravy. The second time, I went right for the gravy—what little of it there is.
My opinion of this food is there isn't nearly enough gravy. The morsels are way too big even when TW cuts them in half. The consistency and color of the morsels isn't appetizing and isn't the color of the fish on the peeps' plates when they make salmon. Even though I didn't need to be coaxed to lick the gravy, we won't be purchasing this anytime soon unless I have a change of heart. I'll bet the feral cats outside will love it though.

Castor & Pollux are committed to feeding pets in need and they partner with non-profit pet rescue organizations around the country through their PetWorks Partners program, which is why you should give this food a chance.
I don't think I'll be doing any more of my own fishing in the near future. In fact, I may be a little seasick. Anyone want to buy a boat? I'll be ordering my fishy food online from Chewy. Great review ! You are such a pretty sailor, CK ! But we understand that you prefer let Chewy go fishing for you. Purrs
ReplyDeleteWe avoid most food with fish ingredients here. I still think your review was fun and creative!
ReplyDeleteI think a review coming from a cat who has her own boat ought to be taken seriously! Around here, I eat fish sparingly, opting for chick-hen, but I'll give anything a try. - Tom x
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun review CK and I thought that food looked a bit chunky too!
ReplyDeleteWe think it's best to let Chewy do the fishing too!!

cap'n N thanx for de honest ree veew ~♥♥☺☺
Eric liked chunks but Flynn didn't, so I used to give Flynn's food a quick blast in the food processor and then he would eat it. Otherwise he would have done the same as you, licked off the gravy and left the chunks.
ReplyDeleteI get seasick just thinking about being seasick, CK! No boat for me!
ReplyDeleteNot enough gravy would be a deal breaker for Mudpie!
ReplyDeleteYeah, those chunks do look a little big. Not sure any of my cats would like that. But they are gravy lovers. So if there was more gravy, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteWe prefer our foods smooth not chunky so this food might not be the best for us...though we do like salmon!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honesty. Those pieces do look really big, my cats won't even eat shreds. Nice boat. XO
ReplyDeleteYou tell it like it is, CK! I'm glad I didn't decide to try this one. Gravy is VERY important business around here.
