Memorial Day and More (A Blogger's Life)

Hola Kitties! You might have noticed we haven't been commenting as much lately. We have an excuse. Our legal team at Stunning Keisha has been working hard at figuring out what we had to do to make this blog compliant with some new international rules. We've been doing lots of research which may have interfered with the time we'd usually spend visiting our friends' blogs.

Memorial Day and More (A Blogger's Life)

As you may or may not know, the European Union (EU) has changed the rules as to how web sites—which include blogs—handle your data. This is called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation or as TW calls it to remember the order of the letters "GooD PR"). It governs how data is collected for residents of the EU.

Unless your blog doesn't have any EU readers, you need to be compliant to these rules which went into effect on May 25. They've already started to fine some big news outlets who decided it would be easier to just block readers in the EU from accessing their sites. You can find more info than I could possible give you here. You may or may not have noticed subtle changes in our sidebar and all around this blog. These are meant to make this blog compliant since we ain't got $20 million to answer any of their fines.

You may say you don't use third-party gadgets and such. Neither do I. As long as you accept comments, you need to comply.

We've added a Privacy Policy as well as linked to Mr. Googles' Privacy Policy in case you like reading lots of legal mumble-jumble. As I've heard it, since Blogger is a Google platform, their policy should be all-inclusive, including this blog, but I prefer the CYA approach. Mr. Google has also added a banner/pop-up that only our readers in the EU can enjoy.

I know I should use one of those fancy mailing list apps but I don't since I don't do a newsletter. You can opt-in to subscribe to my latest blog posts on Feedburner. If you know of an easy, free service, let me know. From what I've been told, Feedburner now uses a double opt-in and is GDPR-compliant. Each e-mail contains a link at the bottom for unsubscribing but why would anybody unsubscribe from Stunning Keisha knowing my teeth and claws are sharp?

Stunning Keisha doesn't collect any of your info directly. Mr. Google collects it when you visit in the form of cookies. I don't eat cookies so I don't know exactly which kind they bake but it's all in their Privacy Policy, linked to above. If you don't want or like their cookies, you can click off the site or easily go to your browser and delete the cookies. I'm warning you, though, clicking off this blog could result in my showing up at your doorstep baring teeth and claws not that I want to threaten anyone.

So there you have it. Now enjoy your cookouts and/or shopping or whatever you do on Memorial Day after you honor the fallen and visit the resting places of our war heroes.

  1. My human is thinking of visiting Buster Keaton's grave today at Forest Lawn. He served in WWI, after all... although my human honors him for other things too.

  2. Great info CK. Humans sure come up with stupid things. If we visit your blog and leave a comment and expect that you or the platform you use wouldn't know that then they are not smart enough to use technology. More crazy rules like this and we'll just hang it up. I hope you enjoy the Memorial Day Holiday, we remember our heroes each and every day.

  8. This legislation is ten years too late and should be worldwide. Can you imagine something like this ever taking off in the US? I am not sure it could, but I hope it makes us think about our own privacy and value our friendships blog wide. It will not change the amazing people we know, nor the wonderful blogs, like yours, that make our lives more enjoyable.

    Have a good Memorial Day.

  9. We're not concerned about the GDPR stuff, just like we're not concerned about the FCC and mentioning a product on our blog. WordPress inserted some privacy statement at the end of the comments widget, so that's good enough for us.

  10. I have a privacy policy and I was hoping wordpress tended to the rest , now you have me scared. XO
