Appreciate the Moments—Winter

New Year; new feature! Today we're starting a new monthly photo challenge! I hope this won't be quite as challenging as last year's which TW made me drop out of. Appreciate the Moments will go live the first Friday of each month with a new prompt. January's prompt is Winter, which is appropriate considering the Northeast was just hit with a "Bomb Cyclone" which dumped over 10 inches of snow over the area, then a Polar Vortex dropped temperatures into the teens with wind chills down around -20. Trust me, we are NOT appreciating those -10 wind chills and temperatures which haven't touched the mid twenties since Christmas.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

During the Bomb Cyclone, TW took a ton of photos while the snow was coming down sideways and cutting visibility to near zero. I usually ignore snow but thought this was da bomb. Pop was working from home and we were all inside chillaxing.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

This is the one I decided to use for the challenge since it actually has The Cat in it even if it's my back. Check out how the snow has collected outside on the window and the screen. I'm trying to smell the snow through the double-paned window. My paw is up while I'm debating whether I can touch it or not.

You really don't need to look at the rest since The Cat isn't in them. Heh heh.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

Bear in mind that the snow is coming down and blowing like crazy and the visibility is close to zero. Usually there would be a nice NYC skyline in this shot.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

The grain in this shot is NOT a texture; it's snow. The "smoke" toward the bottom of the pic is the blowing snow. This pic would be pawsome in black and white. Actually it was shot in color but the color of winter is shades of gray.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

Some people say snow looks so serene. There's nothing serene about the snow on the building next door to us. Note the frozen windows.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

I hope someone other than TW finds this shot artistic. TW loves the contrast between both sides of the pic. The black is the side of the new building where you can see the direction of the snow.

Appreciate the Moments—Winter

The Cat decided this boring shot could use some spicing up so I photobombed it. Nothing like paw prints in the snow. TW likes the snow piled on the barbecue grill but she would. Wonder who sat on the bench?

  5. Yeah, there was certainly nothing serene about that!! Now who would be sitting on a bench in all that snow - that's just crazy (especially considering how cold it was)!

  8. I take pictures of random things like TW. I do like that dark building and the snow. Of course everything can be improved with a cat.

  13. We are hoping for a nice big snowstorm, but so far no luck. My kitties are not into snow, I think it is a general cat opinion.

  14. Whoa! Queen Penelope was here yesterday and she says those photos reminded her of living in Calgary and driving between Calgary and Midway in blizzards! She says that you, CK is the purrfect cat going out and photobombing!

  15. And I thought we had it bad with so many days where it didn't get above freezing! You are right ... there is nothing peaceful or beautiful about that kind of weather. Though being stuck inside with one's humans can be good - at least for a little while ;)

  16. That was some blizzard! You were in the best place, inside looking out. Lovely photos really show how hard it was snowing.
