Yep, this cup in these photos is empty and I didn't drink it. As I'm sure you know cats are more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than people. Humans love their coffee; in fact some claim they can't function without it. The reason is the coffee's caffeine. That said, coffee consumption isn't for their feline friends.
While one or two laps of coffee, tea or soda will not contain enough caffeine to cause poisoning in most cats, the ingestion of moderate amounts of coffee grounds, tea bags or diet pills can easily cause death in cats. Who really wants to take the risk? Even decaffeinated coffee contains some caffeine.
Do you guys want to know how dumb humans are?? On the company's FB page, they mentioned that you could have fun coloring the cup any way you'd like. We didn't read all the comments but the first four humans wanted to know how to color the cup with the hot beverage still in it! Some even warned that kids could scald themselves when they colored it. Hello! You drink the beverage first and then color the empty cup. Duh!
Some of the symptoms that a cat could experience from a large amount of caffeine include rapid breathing, restlessness, heart palpitations, excessive vocalizing, tremors, seizures, coma as well as vomiting and diarrhea. TW gets those same symptoms when she drinks caffeinated drinks. And, yeah, a cat can die if they don't get to a vet quick enough. The vet may induce vomiting to remove the toxin from the system and may give activated charcoal to absorb any remaining.

TW hasn't gotten around to coloring the cup but she thinks it's pretty nonetheless. Throw it out, Woman! Nope, humans ain't that smart.

Sigh. We kitties are SO much smarter than most humans.
ReplyDeleteSome people really need to think before dey type. Or speak.

ReplyDeletethe words 'common sense' appear to have skipped some folks' vocab - and brains! As for your advice re coffee and cats... that's exactly why I don't drink the stuff. It is poison in my system. Even the smell of it can make me edgy. The thing is, it affects humans too... they's just addicted though. Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Kitties have much more common sense than humans ever will. The head peep is still saving the Starbucks cup the baristas decorated for Cupcake. We aren't sure what she thinks she is going to do with that...
ReplyDeleteProbably a lot of humans here in the South would try to color it with the coffee still in it!
ReplyDeleteOh CK...you are just too precious! I'm gonna tell you a little secret: I received coloring pencils and a book almost a year ago, and haven't yet touched them! Guess that whole coloring craze hasn't gripped me in it's passion.
ReplyDeleteThinking and having common sense looks like a hard work for some humans... Purrs
ReplyDeleteWe would never consider giving a cat caffeine (or alcohol, for that matter)! We stick with water and once in a while, Cat Sip (milk made for cats).
ReplyDeleteCK....noe cafe een in thiz houz N de food gurl quitted drinkin all cafe eeen beveragez like bak in 1834....her latest adictshunz flavored water... but eye haz yet ta see any toona water come home frum de store ~~~~~ ☺☺♥♥
ReplyDeleteI’ve done dumb things myself and definitely think kitties are so much smarter!
ReplyDeleteThe look on your face made me laugh! you look like you are wondering if TW will ever move that cup out of your way.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of those cups in my fridge right now! I stocked up during their BOGO event. Reheats just fine!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty dumb to tell people to color it in with coffee. My only coffee lover is Joanie, but she jut licks a drop off my finger.XO
ReplyDeleteSome people...
ReplyDeleteYou wonder where their brains are...

Always good to remind people that there is lots of stuff their pets should not be eating or drinking, even by accident.
ReplyDeleteWe can't imagine a human giving a cat caffeine, but stranger things have happened.
ReplyDeleteIzzy is obsessed with my coffee in the morning. She loves to lick the edge of the cup where it’s wet with coffee but not enough to drink, just to lick. I let her get a lick or two in every now and then since she’s not getting a measurable amount of coffee. But I always remind her- you’re a CAT Izzy, that’s coffee, not a puppachino like Cupcake, and you can’t drink mom’s coffee!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder, CK! Us kitties here will stick to getting our buzz from nip.
ReplyDeleteMy cats take one sniff of my coffee and walk away. They must be smart kitties since they have no interest in it.
ReplyDeleteAwww ... were you so mad at TW that you refused to come out of your igloo?!? I always tell myself that those warnings are there because some idiot did exactly what it says not to (ex. some fool didn't remove the poptart from the wrapper before putting it in the microwave). Bear would love to tell you all the stupid stuff I've done - but the truth is that even I haven't been as stupid as the people the warnings are put on the packages for.
