Help the Pets in Houston and More

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month and it just so happens the residents of Texas, particularly Houston and surrounding areas, are in the midst of the worst hurricane perhaps ever. Harvey has dumped more than 50 inches of rain in some parts of Texas and I hope the residents had a disaster preparedness plan that included their cats and other anipals. I've seen disturbing pics on FB of people's pets being turned away at shelters. If you'd like to help, Austin Pets Alive! needs fosters and donations cos they've taken many shelter animals from the affected areas, saving hundreds of precious lives. Another fun way to help is through the Auction for Austin Pets Alive organized by the wonderful Marjorie at the Dash Kitten blog. You can donate items at the auction's Facebook event page!

Whoa! The rest of this post seems anti-climatic now but I have business to attend to. Both today's flashback foto picks come from The Trout Towne Tabbies. I haven't featured one of their picks in a long time. #38 was uploaded in September 2009. TW got lucky and took a few really good fotos with her analog Olympus with the millions of interchangeable lenses and none were better than this one. I'm laying in my "mauve thing" that's somehow on the living room coffee table rather than on Pop's bed. How did I get here? Is this my beautiful house? Oh wait, how did David Byrne did in here? I do look surprised though cos I wasn't quite sure about the flashy box.

Abort! Abort! Remove this foto! No one wants to see the mess on Pop's dresser. Crop it at least!! Oh yeah, cropping isn't allowed in this feature. Three fotos from November 2010 and #1294 is the only one which shows the mess and the Tabbies chose it. Can't win them all but that's what makes Foto Frenzy so much fun—for you, that is. You get to see the fotos—warts and all. Pop gets all gushy when he sees my arm stretched out in front when I'm laying in one of the "mauve things" or the igloo so TW took this foto. I'm sure she would have cropped it had it gone into a post other than FF. I'm comfy and oh-so stunnimg.

The Friendly Fill-Ins are hosted each and every week by 15andmeowing and McGuffy's Reader and I thank them for doing this. My answers are truthful, so help me Cod. I can't speak for TW though.

1. My favorite fictional character is Tuna R'son Kitty. He's a fictional character on my blog who's the leader of my not-fictional posse.

2. A new tv show or film I am looking forward to this Fall is the Yankees in the World Series. Actually TW is, not me, and she can dream but it ain't happening.

3. One of my very favourite books is are the journals left by the cats before me. They're very inneresting and contain a wealth of info on what makes the peeps tick.

4. The best time to eat is any time you're hungry. Screw mealtimes; I want to eat when I'm hungry and every time I'm hungry.

How about I give you a fill-in for the road? Leave your answers in the comments.

Have a fun weekend and I hope you'll join me tomorrow for Caturday art.

  1. The Farm cats sent monies to Austin Pets. They know what it's like to worry about being evacuated. They were lucky and didn't have to leave.

  2. Thanks for letting us know about Austin Pets Alive, CK. We've donated and are participating in the auction. Our hearts are broken for the people and animals affected by the catastrophic tragedy in Texas. The kitties and I are so lucky...and have to remember that every single day.

  3. I can't imagine having to make the choice between shelter and one's furbabies. I heard about that the last couple years in Oklahoma. The public tornado shelters refused to allow people's pets - so people either had to leave them outside or stay with them and forgo shelter. I can't even imagine it with a longer-term shelter situation (weeks or months). By the way, we especially love that first picture of you, CK.

  4. The Hubby rolled his eyes when I told him we were putting together an emergency plan for Angel and Chuck; he had made all kinds of assumptions that were completely different from what I thought! Now, we are on the same page, and hopefully could race out of the house with both cats if need be. Still sending purrs and hugs to Texas.

  8. Thanks for spreading the word about the auction! It's just heartbreaking what that area is going through. I notice your picture on Pop's dresser! And (one) kitty I'd love to meet in the fur is Frodo from the Hairballs and Hissyfits blog. He is SO adorable.

  9. Thanks for spreading the word of how to help all the animals in need in Texas. That is so sad that people can't take their pets to shelters.
Great photo choices. I see your Pops likes Snoopy and cows ( I think that is what I see). You do look cute with your paws stretched out, but you always look cute.
Thank you for these great fill-in answers. I agree you should eat whenever you want to eat. That is nice the cats before you left journals to help you deal with the humans.
Besides you, there are many I want to meet including Summer and all the kitties that date my kitties including Phoebe's Purrince, Also, Teddy, 4-legged furballs, Madi, Canadian Cats, I could go on and on.XO

  10. I'm glad you're helping spread the word about helping the animals affected by the hurricane and flood. I have to day, I've already met the blogging kitty I most wanted to meet - Sophie of Kitty Kat Chronicles! Both my human and I did in Nashville a couple of years ago, and were utterly charmed by her. My human is kind of scared to meet you, CK!

I think it is SO cool that Edie and Ellen said ME!

  11. Your David Byrne quote had mum in fits of giggles. Nice one!

Thank you so much for the support. Mum is not the worlds best organiser but she can't turn away from such distress. We have to help.

  15. I love these answers! I really think you should publish those journals. I would read them! I think that many would. The cats here would agree with you about eating...well, the dogs would, too. But, the dogs are on a more rigid schedule than the cats. The cats are in charge. HUGS!
