Wednesday Word—(T.E.K.) Technology

Getting down to important business on my new ipawd.

This little ghetto kitteh is the new tech wizard in the family. TW recently purchased an iPawd Mini 3 to replace our old hand-me-down 1st-generation ipawd. (Thanks Theresa for thinking of TW and passing it on to her me.) It wasn’t really in the budget but we needed one if I ever expected to join the #catsofinstagram. We were finding most of our old apps were no longer supported on the old ipawd. The final crushing blow came when TW lost over a hunnert levels of Candy Crush cos the game no longer loaded on the old ipawd.

TW always says that if Gramps was still alive he’d love the computer and interwebs. Gramps was always big on Technology, which is this week’s #52Snapshots theme.

When Gramps was in the Army Air Force during WWII, he built and repaired radio transmitters for airplanes in Scott Field and then over in England and Belgium. While TW was growing up, Gramps was the first on the block to have all the latest advances in Technology including a cordless phone and a police/fire scanner. He kept Radio Shack in business. If they had a new gadget, he bought it.

Gramps (in blue) getting a tour of the new computerized fire command center.

Gramps would have loved the computer! He would've loved having everything he needed to know at his fingertips and being able to look back over our little town’s past and watching and listening to his favorite tv/radio shows once again. I’ll bet he would have taken to social media too and used it to locate all those service buddies and family members he lost contact with. Sadly, by the time home computers became available, he’d lost his vision to macular degeneration.

TW carried on the Technology tradition being one of the first three in her office to be trained on the new Wang computer. When her company switched to desktop publishing, she was one of two people to be trained on it. She bought a Walkman, Discman and iPod when they first came out. Unfortunately, she can no longer afford to purchase the latest Technologies.

We’re not sure how reincarnation works but bet Gramps will come back as some computer nerd who will invent the next big thing!

I leave you with some pics of yours truly hand at work on the new ipawd.

Time to get down to the nitty gritty.

This job is harder than I thought. I’ll need this paw too.

Thanks to Christina and The Lazy Pit Bull for hosting the 52 Snapshots of Life photo challenge this week and every week throughout 2015. We apologize for the quality of this week’s snapshots. For those who would like to participate, next week’s theme is Labor. HAH! As if …

  9. My human mom is the tech champ in our family. She hooked me up with one of those apps too but on her iphone which is a little small so I just treated it like any toy mousie and grabbed it with my teeth and tossed it up in the air a few times. Needless to say, that ended that game! =^,,^=

  13. Hey CK! That's great you've got the ipawd mini! the Staff does too and uses it all the time. She even let's me, but I pretend not to be interested! Her pop was in the Air Force too and he built and repaired radios! Perhaps he met gramps, except her pop was a bit too young for the war. He went in to do military service afterwards!! He died 11 years ago and he would have LOVED smartphones and ipawds and all that!

  19. Hey CK! my Gramps was a Computer Programmer! He started in 1956 when Mommy was just a tyke and Mommy growed up with Technology. Hes 81 and still has a couple of clients that he helps out.
She kind of misses not having the latest and greatest tech now that shes making Jam for a living. Mes does not miss Mission Control in the office, mes much prefers cuddling up to her on the sofa than laying on the bed in the office!
Concatulations on the new iPad! mes only a little bit jealous!

  24. Mom loved hearing about Gramps. Mom has never played Candy Crush, but that does sound pretty pawful for TW to lose all that. Looks as if you are going to be a real tech genius soon, C.K. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  25. My late hubs used to keep Radio Shack in biz, too!! He always bought all the Radio Shack gadgets! Love "iPawd" ha ha !

  26. I think the snapshots are great, and love the story about Gramps. I think that is the one thing that can be frustrating about technology, the fact that it is ever evolving. That is a good thing, but not so much when it takes so much money to keep up with the latest.
