CK on #CatDentalHealth — Taking a Bite Out of Dental Disease

This post is sponsored by PetSmart, and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Dental Health Month, but Stunning Keisha only shares information I feel is relevant to my readers. PetSmart is not responsible for the content of this article.

Kittens have 26 teeth, known as their primary, baby, milk or kitten teeth. Adult cats have 30 permanent teeth. I’m 10 year’s old and I’m proud to say I still have all 30. I’ve only needed one dental cleaning in my life and the vet just wanted Pop’s money. How does this little ghetto kitteh do it when 70% of cats aged three years and older have some sort of dental disease? You can bet no one’s brushing my teeth. Biting the humans and eating Feline Greenies® Dental Treats keep this cat’s teeth sharp and disease free. They’re the only cat treat that has The Veterinary Oral Health Council Seal of Acceptance for tartar reduction.

My first vet—Dr. Evil, I called him—was a butcher, who only cared about money. He’d always find something wrong to x-ray, medicate or require a return visit. He decided I needed a cleaning on my first post-adoption visit. On my next visit, he told the peeps I had serious gingivitis issues and needed another cleaning ASAP. He sent them home with some expensive additive to put in my water, which turned me off water to this day. Instead they took me to another vet practice, who said my teeth were fine. They recommended Feline Greenies to clean my teeth. I added the biting my peeps part cos it’s fun and good exercise for my chompers.

Our supply of my favorite Feline Greenies was running low so TW and I made a trip to PetSmart to stock up. TW likes that they contain natural ingredients with added vitamins, minerals, taurine and chlorophyll with no artificial flavors or preservatives. I like that they have six flavors to chose from—Oven Roasted Chicken, Ocean Fish, Savory Salmon, Tempting Tuna, Catnip and Succulent Beef—and that since they’re only 1.25 calories I can eat them nightly. Pop likes how they wipe away tartar building so my breath smells nice when he kisses me. It’s a win-win for our entire family.

One of the three flavors we brought home was Catnip. Whoa, I didn’t know they came in Catnip! We also bought the Tuna and Salmon flavors. I couldn’t wait to get home to try that new Catnip flavor and it didn’t disappoint. TW isn’t nice like Summer Samba’s human so I didn’t get to try any in the parking lot. What a delicious way to get rid of the tartar that can causes bacteria and inflammation which left untreated can travel through the body and result in liver, kidney and heart problems just like in humans. Whew, was that a run-on sentence or what?

Perhaps I’ll just bite on Feline Greenies

I hear you axing why TW is letting me eat outta her hand if she’s so “scared” of me. These Feline Greenies’ Catnip dental treats are so good that I’d rather eat them than TW’s finger—MOL!  That’s the biggest compliment you’ll hear from this kitteh and another reason TW likes them.

February is Pet Dental Health Month. Celebrate by taking a trip to PetSmart to load up on Feline Greenies as well as the other Feline Dental Treats they sell. Here’s a link to find a PetSmart in your ‘hood. Tell ‘em CK sent you. And remember my secrets to great teeth: dental treats from PetSmart and gnawing on the peeps bones.

  2. I haven't had the chance to look at Callie's teeth yet, but they looked pretty good from what I saw. Catnip flavor sounds cool, may have to try that one some time... And that's pawsome that you have all your 30 teefers. That's more than me... I only have 24.

  3. I love crunching Greenies, but I don't like biting humans. They taste funny and they get upset. Plus Binga bites, and she had to have two teeth pulled during one of the two dental cleaning she's had, so I'm little dubious about the value of biting.

  5. Agree with Molly, we don't have Greenies here :( In fact The Staff went to the Pet Store to check the other day. It costs about £6 for one packet to get from the US!! Just thought, you couldn't lobby PetSmart to open up an outlet in the UK, could you? Nah! I guess not!! xx

  7. This is a great post to remind importance of dental health! Dr. Evil sounds really evil. We want to make sure teeth are clean, but don't want unnecessary procedure involving anesthesia. Glad you were taken to different vet. And it's wonderful your teeth are in such good condition by eating yummy treats and biting your peeps :-)

  12. We don't get any Greenies here let alone catnip flavoured ones. Eric had inflamed gums from when he was about 6 months old so we both always had our teeth cleaned. I am very good for it and don't try to eat my mum.
