Independence Day

No, it’s not July 4th but it’s MY independence day. I stopped trying to understand my peeps a long time ago but something came up last week that just baffled me. For years, the peeps—by the peeps I mean TW mostly—have been chiding me and making fun of me cos I have “separation issues.” That being, I always hung with them. If I wasn’t in the same room as they were, I’d start singing so they’d know I was looking for them. Sad but true. The life behind bars left me somewhat bent but not broken. I craved attention and I wanted the peeps at my beck and call.

Lately, not so much. In the old days, I’d always stay in the same room when they ate. Now I check out what they have for dinner. If I like it, I try to mooch some; if I don’t, I go back into Pop’s my room to sleep in my mauve thing.

What do you want? I’m in my “mauve thing."

On Sunday mornings, I always sat in the chair next to Pop at the kitchen table while he read the paper. This morning, I ate my breakfast and went inside to my mauve thing. I know when I’m not wanted.

Whatchoo reading, Pop? Read me Get Fuzzy.
In fact—and this was the straw that broke TW’s back—I’ve started playing on my own. I don’t need her to entertain me now. The fact that I wouldn’t play unless it was interactively with her used to be a bone of contention in our relationship.  Lately, I play hockey with either my crinkle ball, a spring or a ball that’s flat cos a certain Woman stepped on it and crushed it. I like that ball cos it doesn’t move too fast—like TW—and I can control it—(you guessed it) like TW. Of course, I’ll stop if I see one of them looking at me and deny I was playing.

MY toys and I’ll play when I want to.

Sometime after 3 a.m., when I’ve finished singing the song of my people, I start up a game of hockey. Of course, I hear the peeps giggling but I know they’re hurt that I didn’t wait for them to get up to play with me. This morning, TW finally admitted that I’m getting independent. I think there was a catch in her throat. Kittehs, I’m tired of waiting for the peeps to decide to play. I’m going it alone. *Scamper scamper* CK shoots … She SCORES!!!

  1. When it comes to humans, you've got to keep them guessing! You're doing a great job of it, CK.

    Have a great Monday!
    XOXO

  3. Hmmm, since you're getting to be so independant maybe you could book a flight and come out here for some CUDDLING!!!

  4. Well, you can't rely on your humans for everything. I say it's a good thing you are doing stuff on your own!

  9. We think it's terrific you're becoming more independent. Humans aren't the best servants, really, so it's good to be able to do things on your own!

  10. Hye, sometime you have to take matters into your own paws CK!

  11. Truffles is kind of hard to figure out. She's only been with me for 6 months and in ways is very clingy. She's always by my side in whatever room we're in and starts crying for me if I leave the room and she doesn't know where I went. But if it's time for a 4 hour nap she's more than happy to go off and be by herself!

  12. Just when the peeps think they have us figured out we change something. You are doing a good job stunning girl.

  13. It is great you are more independent! I think it's important because your peeps can't be around 24/7. These are very lovely pictures of you. Have a wonderful week!

  21. Yay CK!!! My Grandpa Bobo used to play on his own all of the time. Mom calls me lazy cause I will only play with Dakota, Dad or her. I have tons of toys and rarely play with them unless Mom plays with me. I am independent in every other way though. Love, Cody

  22. Those humans are big and clumsy anyway. And you can make believe anything you want when you play on your own! Happy adventuring!

  23. Independence can be a good thing, especially when it allows you to play and have fun even when the peeps are busy. But don't leave them out completely or they'll find the need to bring in another kitty to play with them! Just a little warning…think about it…there are eight of us! Happy independence to you CK!

  25. You go, CK! You should try rearranging the furniture during the night. If you kick the ottoman far enough out into the middle of the floor, funny things happen when the peeps wander out to get a glass of water without turning on the light.

  26. Gasp! You are playing by yourself? Now M wants you to come live here cuz I never play by myself. I need a human to make it fun. You are setting a bad example for kitties like me CK. he he Just teasing you - M is jealous is all!

  27. Keep mixing it up, CK. And keep confusing the humans. That's what we cats do best.

  28. *paw waves* Hi there Keisha! We are a new-ish blog (we started blogging 2013) and we were looking for some kitty blogs to follow. Love is being Owned by a husky recommended you to us. We are from Happiness is Siamese. Come on by!

Anyway, Mikko needs some independence sometimes as well, but he mostly sticks to my shoulder. Its like there is a magnet there, and he has the other magnet! Good for you Keish, good for you!

  31. Darling, Sometimes I play by myself now too. Just yesterday the Human found one of my missing mousies in teh kitchen. Crazy, huh? Say, did you get a good look at your blue pillow in my post tonight? It has the SBB on it! (*SoftBrownBlankie)

  32. Scooter and I are running neck and neck in the independence category. Alice and Russell play with each other. I think it's all OK because when they aren't "busy" all three sleep in my office, and we all know it's the napping that takes up the most time.

  33. It is the best fun driving the humans crazy!!
