50 Shades of Amber

Amber is this week’s PhotoHunt word. According to Wikipedia, Amber is fossilized tree resin, which has been appreciated for its color and natural beauty since Neolithic times. Valued as a gemstone, Amber is made into a variety of decorative objects. One of those objects is this beautiful candle that TW has. It’s delicate design uses many little pieces of Amber and there’s more on the back of the candle. TW tricked me into “posing” with her candle by dropping my favorite nip next to it. Was that low or what? That was low even for TW.

I’m also participating in Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop. It’s a way for blogging cats to show our artistic, creative, boho side. If you click on the link above, you can see some other artistic pieces.

I’ve chosen to take one of the pics that TW conned me into “posing” for and putting an Amber tint on it using a PhotoShop Instagram action.

Photoshop action shows my little pink tongue.

As an experiment, I wanted to see if using the Tint effect on PicMonkey, I could duplicate the Photoshop action. It doesn’t look it but I tried to match the color as closely as I could. Then I highlighted the candle by removing its tint. If you’re planning on using effects like these on an online photo editor, what you see is not always what you get. The photo below is the screen grab and the one below that is how the image actually saved on my computer. I like the PhotoShop effect much better than either of the PicMonkey images. Which of the three do you prefer?

Screen grab of PicMonkey effect. You can see the color difference with how the pic saved below.

“Saved” PicMonkey image shows inneresting red highlights in my fur.

  1. Very pretty!!!
We like the Photoshop version the best too. It almost has a sepia quality to it.

  2. Our Mommy likes the candle and she really likes the low-down dirty trick your Mommy used on you. MOL!
(you gotta watch those humans - they're tricky!)

  3. We wish our Mommy would play a dirty nip trick on us...just sayin'.

  4. Ugh, so not fair that your human tricked you like that! I like the Photoshop version better... and there are ways to manipulate images in Photoshop that will do what your human was trying to do in PicMonkey, only better!

  5. All we can see is your gorgeousness in all of the pics!

  7. Well CK that was a sneaky way to get an "up close and personal" photo of you with the candle BUT it's mighty pretty - not as STUNNING as you of course but pretty.

  12. That is a lovely candle. I like the photoshop version the best. I will forgive my mum any low down dirty tricks if it involves nip.

  16. I like the Photoshop one cause the candle looks green in the others.

Mostly, I like looking at your sweet little tongue, which I would really like to see in person . . . soon. XOXOX

  17. YEah we think Photoshop's the best too! (and yeah the humans are TRICKY that way with the nip.)

  18. Cool pics, CK. And seriously...don't complain about getting nip. Nip is good no matter what. :)

  20. Cool photos, like your take on amber. The Photoshop one is our fav. Hope you are having a nice weekend CK.

  21. We like either the first or third photo. The middle one was stripped of all its color. Mom would like to get PhotoShop but cannot rationalize the expense. The various free apps are okay, but sometimes it's not possible to get the look you want. Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Giulietta

  22. The photoshop version is my favorite. It also comes in handy for removing unsightly kitty litter on the floor in my shelter cat pictures!
    Nice take on amber.

  26. TW's candle looks very pretty! And I love your art images! The tint effect gives very lovely look :-) I agree, images don't always show in the look you see. I think each one looks lovely in each way!

  27. Bootiful as always BFGF...the red tint in your furs suits you

  28. I like them all. There are other layers in Pic Monkey that are easier to use than Photoshop.
