DJCK Presents Just Another Music Monday

Hola! I am DJCK. I am the DJ; I am what I play. Before I get to the songs, I want to share a few fun things you may have missed on my Facebook page.

DJCK Presents Just Another Music Monday

My Gotcha Day fundraiser on Facebook for UCFCC was a huge success. I had to up the total amount and collected $610 for the TNR group which will help a lot of kitties. Give yourselves a big round of applause! The face of the fundraiser, Mary, has been adopted. She's now called Princess Mili but is treated more like a queen. Tessie P. won the raffle and her prize will be going out to her.

DJCK Presents Just Another Music Monday

The other night someone on our block really left the stove on and the fire department had to come. Where was the cat? What was funny was I'd just seen this clip. Most of you prolly already saw it.

I'm joining the Mewsic Movies Me blog hop over at Curious as a Cathy. The theme this week is Movie and TV theme songs. We don't have a movie theatre close by so TW would have to go into NYC to see a flick. That isn't happening cos that would cost at least $20 between bus fare and movie ticket and that doesn't even count refreshments.

DJCK Presents Just Another Music Monday

I'll admit, I don't leave her any time to watch tv. I know all she'll watch is the ballgame anyhoo. Way back in her warped, senile mind, TW did come up with a few themes that she liked. She tried to pick some esoteric ones. A few of the versions aren't the originals. These are way better in our opinion but they're not for everybuddy. I'm only gonna feature the videos for the first couple but the links are included for all.

Of course number one on our list would have to be the Ramone's "Rocknroll High School." A pawsome song and a pawsome flick.

We love the Psychedelic Furs but this is one of our least favorites of their songs but still a great pick. "Pretty in Pink."

As a child TW loved Lulu's original "To Sir With Love" so much, she auditioned for her junior high talent show with it but she sounded more like Dave Pirner. HAH! BTW, that version is the full one that includes the third verse. Then there's Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe's version.

Some other faves include Los Lobos with the theme song for the film "La Bamba" and "One Tin Soldier" from the movie Billy Jack. TW loved the song and the movie. I shared Prince's "Purple Rain" last time. Pop picked "The Ballad of Easy Rider" by the Byrds.

As far as tv shows, how about Minneapolis band Hüsker Dü's version of the Mary Tyler Moore theme "Love is All Around"?

Honorable mentions are other more mainstream goodies like Woodstock, Yellow Submarine, A Hard Day's Night, Help and Alice's Restaurant in which the movie was made around the song and not the other way around.

I hope you enjoyed my picks. Do your humans have a favorite movie or tv theme song?

Would you like to comment?

  1. All my human's favorite movies are silents from the 1920s! Except for Clockwork Orange and Repo Man (she worked on the latter). Iggy did the Repo Man theme.

  3. I love One Tin Soldier and the movie Billy Jack. Bless the Beasts and the Children, the song and the movie was always one of my favorites too. Nothing you can dance to, I guess that's why you're the dj CK.

  4. Mom has her nightly ritual of watching Frasier before going to bed. She says it's lighthearted and calms her down for sleeping. She likes that crazy theme song too. Incidentally she loves eggs, MOL. Purrs

  7. Mom remembers and liked, "To Sir With Love." Mom was in choir in school but was told to just mouth it as her voice was way off key and scratchy. Purple Rain is awesome and always will be.

  15. Our Momma gets songs from movies stuck in her head and we suffer to her trying to sing them for as long as they're stuck! And no, she doesn't even need the movie to remind her of the song. She hasn't seen The Wizard of Oz, Lady and the Tramp, etc in years, but it doesn't stop her from singing the songs anyway (badly we might add). ~Ellie Mae and Bear Cat

  16. Cathy & DJCK,

Many apologizes for not dancing with you before now. There was a little hiccup with the linky and I couldn't see who joined, then I got busy. *sigh* But, here I am boogieing to your pawsome movie/tv song selections. I used to watch "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" when I was a kid. Hüsker Dü's version confused my brain. I couldn't place it. Maybe, it's because I need my morning coffee. I just started on my first cup. :) BTW, I vid of the cat texting and the human pet trying to convince him to check the stove I can almost envision this happening. lol Congrats on the fundraiser. Sorry to hear about a fire in your neighborhood. Did they get the fire put out? Did humans & furry babies escape without getting singed? Thanks for hitting the dance floor with the 4M gang. Next week, we'll be boogieing 'freebie' style which means you share anything you want! See ya next week, lovey!

  18. CONGRATS on a awesome fundraiser result! You've helped to make a lot of kitties lives so much better. Kudos to you and all who donated. Job well done!

I really liked your TV/Movie theme song pics. I especially liked Husker Du's version of the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme. I used to watch that show all the time and absolutely loved the opening intro. That show was groundbreaking in so many ways!

You mentioned one of my favorite movies of all time: To Sir with Love. Sidney Poitier was simply amazing in that film. And LuLu's song: fabulous! I actually featured the song in a recent Battle of the Bands.

Pretty in Pink was also a good movie. I don't think I remember Rock 'n Roll High school. I probably saw it but just don't remember it right now.

Thanks for dancing with us all!
Enjoy the rest of your week,

    Michele at Angels Bark

  20. When my Mom graduated out of University she took a course on how to find a job (even though she had been working full time for years in the hotel industry). They said people should have a them song...like Opera or Bob Hope that played for them when they walked in for an interview and she picked "Killer Queen" by Queen. She still plays it before she goes for an interview and it makes her feel fabulous!
