All Salmon Paté is Not Created Equal #ChewyInfluencer

Yo Kittehs! TW had an eye-opening experience last week. Earlier this year, I had a bunch of asthma flareups. She found a salmon paté that I really liked and mixed my Pred in with it.  It was moister than other patés so she'd give me a spoonful with the meds and I'd lick it right up.

When I received my grub for being a Chewy Influencer, I saw Purina Muse Natural Salmon Recipe Paté adult grain-free canned cat food. Again, I've tried this once before and liked it. Why wouldn't I? It looked and smelled the same as the other brand I liked. It was nice and moist. When I was younger, I never liked paté cos the ones we tried were like cement—dry and stiff. But the Muse has a great consistency that I could lick up.

Since it looked and smelled the same as the other brand, TW decided it must be the same as the other which was a supermarket brand that was cheaper. Did she get a shock when she compared the ingredients! GASP! Here's the ingredients in the supermarket brand:

Now compare the ingredients in the Muse:

True, the Purina Muse has some plant-based stuff but it doesn't contain unknown by-products in it. Lord knows what they are or where they come from. I mean, why does cat food have to have "natural flavor," "added color" and preservatives in it? I would have thought salmon had a delicious flavor on it's own but what do I know. I'm only a cat.

No, Virginia, all salmon paté is NOT created equal just cos it looks and smells the same. You still have to read labels. You get what you pay for. If you can, it's better to spend a little more on the food you feed your cat cos, in the long run, you'll save on vet bills.

Purina Muse also comes in chowder, in broth, with toppers, in gravy, MasterPieces™ and dry. I reviewed the Muse in broth earlier in the week. Something to note is that we picked the paté cos the Muse in gravy contains grains (wheat gluten) and carrageenan.

  2. We love our autoship from Chewy. But like I said before they don't like Muse. They are fussy buggers. They ate it once, maybe twice and then they look at me like - what is that stuff woman? They are a pain in my tchukes

  3. You are SO right about humans spending a little more on cat food, if they can, CK! Quality food equals a quality life!

  4. You are right, CK ... salmon is fantabulous enough on its own that you don't need to add "natural flavor." What's that mean anyway? If it's NATURAL, wouldn't it already be part of the food?

  5. Your mama is clever, finding something super tasty to hide your meds in. Our guys love salmon too.

  6. Absolutely right, CK, better food means healthier kitties in the long run. Human senses are not as sharp as ours, so it's easy to fool them with lookalike or smellalike foods. We kitties know better.
