Building a Human/Cat Bond with Peacock Feathers

Building a Human/Cat Bond Thru Peacock Feathers

It's time once again to peek into the pamphlet Happy Cat Happy You. These quick tips for building a bond with your feline friend are suggested by the authors at the Catnip Newsletter and compiled for Tufts Institute. This is a series that I'm running which is not sponsored by anyone. I'm just offering my stunning opinions.

Whoa! Finally a tip I can totally get down with. Tip six: Buy a handful of peacock feathers. A cat can never take too many naps or have too many peacock feathers. I've been a champion of those feathers since I started blogging. Nicky loved them and I inherited his stash and his love of them.

Wand toys don't do much for me. To be truthful, I'm so wild once I start playing that both TW and myself are afraid I'll get the string wrapped around my neck and it will end badly. We've had enough close calls that TW rarely brings a wand toy out for me. Instead she reaches for a peacock feather.

Peacock feathers are better than wand toys anyway. I can jump, run, stalk and pounce on them with no thought of danger. It's easy to kill them and they taste like chick-hen.

I know many of my furrends love them too; many of whom I've turned on to the tempting peacock plumes. My BFGF Savannah love, love, loves them and I've seen pics of King Spitty dominating a feather or two.

We preserve our feathers by sticking the stems into long sundae straws. That way, TW can wriggle them under tissue paper without them bending. Then when they break, TW sometimes makes a lovely bouquet and puts them in a vase for decor. They're pretty and not toxic like most flowers if I decide to bite one.

It's kind of important though that you only buy them from pet shops like Cat Claws or Nip & Bones cos hobby shops tend to dye them and spray them with all sorts of stuff.

Does your human buy peacock feathers for your enjoyment or are you deprived of this important bonding experience?

  1. That's a great toy for a spunky kitty like you. My mom is always worried that I'll poke the rigid end of the feather into my mouth or eye, so she breaks the feather shaft on purpose!

  19. We have never seen a peacock feather. Mom has looked for them here in PG without any luck. She tried ordering them on-line but the shipping and handling was like $15 and feather was $0.99. Not worth it. You make the feathers look like so much fun CK.
