Dunno what all the fuss and pyrotechnics over Independence Day on July 4th is. Independence Day for me came on January 29, 2006, the day I declared my freedom from the little shelter in Hillsborough, NJ. It’s more commonly known as a Gotcha Day but once we leave their buildings, we also leave behind the confinement, the cages and the sorrow. I busted out and entered my new furever condo as supreme ruler. After their own independence day, all cats become the bosses and the humans best obey us. I purray between now and next July 4th, every shelter cat can celebrate their independence and leave their cages behind. Er, now why are you innerupting me TW.
OK, so our country is celebrating a birthday and that's what the big to do is about. Apparently America was also held against their will by a bunch of tyrants and bullies although I can't imagine a cage large enough to hold an entire country. Unlike myself, they have a very loud and raucous celebration with all kinds of loud fireworks. Peeps go to barbecues and eat burnt meat and potato salad that's been sitting out in the sun too long. I'm glad my peeps stay home even if they insist on eating those long test tubes and other food that doesn't appeal to me at all.

A few years ago, Petfinder.com put together this infographic for keeping your cats safe on this day. The best advice I would have is keep all cats and even woofies in the house after the pyrotechnics begin.
TW took this picture from our courtyard of the Umpire State Building all decked out in red, white and blue with the Macy's fireworks blowing up all around it. I'm gonna post another one she took last year on my Facebook page so stop by if you have a chance between hot dogs.
Stay safe, celebrate quietly and have a very Happy 4th of July Independence Day.
Every day is Independence Day for kitties because no one can own us! That said, happy Fourth to all the U.S. humans, who needed a piece of paper to do the same thing.
