Platform and Tissues

Tissue? Platforms? I thought this was about Blind Cats and Rescues!

While out on the campaign trail, somecat mentioned that Katie and I needed to have "tissues" and a "platform" so I went out and bought platforms for both of us—pretty leopard print ones, as you can see. The only problem is I can't figure out how to walk in them. TW is no help because she's only worn flats since the '70s. I can unnerstand Tissue cos I know what to do with that; but platforms? I've decided to throw away my platforms and concentrate the campaign on who really matters: the cats of Blind Cat Rescue. Let's meet a few of the cats that would benefit from a Katie win.

Meet Nicky! Nicky came to Blind Cat Rescue from the Orange County Animal Control Center. He is a super sweet loving little fellow and they absolutely did not want to have to kill him. He had come to them as a stray from the city dump. Nicky's eyes were bulging out of his head so he was taken immediately to the vet. Considering his rough start in life he was in decent health. They removed both of his eyes. Nicky got a second chance.

Our next kitty, Oreo was rescued by a wonderful group in Pennsylvania when a woman had 63 cats seized by animal control for neglect. They contacted BCR to see if they could take the blind ones. Two wonderful volunteers put them in the car and drove 8 hours to bring them to us. Oreo's eyes were an absolute mess and had to be removed, plus he needed dental work. He is adjusting well from his ordeal.

He is a wonderful loving fellow and is always the first to be wrapped around your legs or in your lap. You can hear him purring from across the room.

Katie wanted me to use her in this blog. She heard Katie was a Cat-idate and she thinks it's her! Little Katie came to BCR at 12 weeks old. She was blind and FELV+. She had been rescued with her siblings by a rescue that was able to place the rest, but were not able to place her or her brother. Blind Cat Rescue gladly took them in. Unfortunately, Katie's eyes were in such bad shape, they had to be removed.

The last kitty we're gonna meet today is Fred. I picked Fred cos that's what Pop says his name is. Fred is blind and FIV+. He came to BCR from the Wake County Animal Control Center (a kill shelter). Lucky for him, this is a good shelter that does everything possible to find a place for the animals so they have a very low kill rate.

Two days after he arrived he became very sick and was hospitalized with a 106 fever! He had stopped eating and had one heck of a bad upper respiratory infection that he picked up during his time in the pound. BCR had the vet give him a feeding tube. After large doses loving care and good antibiotics,  he finally started eating again and has recovered from his illness.

Fred is super friendly and loves to be petted. He rubs all over you and will follow you all over the room

These cats are the stars of this campaign. Not Katie. Not me or any of the cat-idates campaigning for their cause. I signed on as Campaign Manager to help Blind Cat Rescue and have some fun doing it. When you visit, all I ax is that you don't check your humor at the door. When all the votes are tallied, I'm still going to be the Cat Ruler of the World, or, at least of my house. Let's help these real-world cats, who are blind, ill and have no furever home, except Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary.  And to paraphrase Merle Haggard: When you're running down my shelter, you're walking on the fighting side of me!

  4. Oh my goodness, that is one of the best posts I have seen in this campaign. It is so true that all this is for the shelters and I do love that Blind Cat Shelter. But then they are all great shelters. Love your last paragraph. Take care.

  6. Although I think you got the issues and platform things a little bit wrong, CK, I have to agree about the real stars of this campaign! I love ALL the rescues that are being represented, and there are so many great kitties that have been saved because of them. I bet if Dot from Tabby's Place was running against me and the other candidates for Cat Ruler of the World, she would leave us all in the dust!

  13. Sweet kitties!! I really wish ALL the shelters could win! But I gotta vote for sumkitteh, right? Even though Sparkle told me she didn't think those big Brass Ones would really work like my old ones did, and Austin said he thinks you and Katie will double-cross me somehow....

But hey! I am a ManCat of my word, you can count on me!
