A Post About ME!

How novel is that? A post about ME! Duty called these past few weeks and I've had to answer the call.

You guys all know Savannah of Savannah's Paw Tracks. Her blog is all about the progress she's made in her recovery from a terrified shelter cat to a confident house cat. Just like myself, she's part Russian Blue and she looks a bit like me. Anyway, I promised her I'd post about this bit of "progress" that happened to me several weeks back. I know this isn't going to sound like much to the untrained mind but I ROLLED OVER! Completely. I was playing and it just happened. It wasn't easy and I struggled a bit to get over but I did it and I didn't die doing it. Trust me, I haven't repeated the feat since then.

This is as far as I'll roll over to show off my little bikini.
For some reason, I've never rolled onto my back. Ever. The peeps don't know why this is. They suspect it might have something to do with past abuse or maybe that I still don't trust them or perhaps it's a hidden health issue. In fact when the evil v-e-t tried to put me on my back, I started to mouth breathe and hyperventilate. It was terrible.

My whole life passed in front of me. I saw myself as a wee kitteh on the streets of CommuniPAW . … Then the Liberty Shelter. … CAP rescuing me and bringing me on a long car ride to their Hillsborough Shelter. … The people who returned me to the shelter. … Many trips to adoption events at the Hoboken Animal Hospital. … The elderly couple who finally came and took me home, where I've been for the last 6½ years.

Pop always loved to fool around with all the cats who came before me by picking them up and placing them on their backs. He's been smart enough to know he can't ever do that with me. A quick bite or two convinced him not to try unless he wanted to be mauled.

Do I look stunning as an all-gray cat?

A few reminders before I leave you to your easy Sunday:

f you're on Facebook, please vote for Brookes Legacy Animal Rescue every day in the Petco Foundation's 100 Celebrations contest so they can win a grant of $10,000. This grant will be used to help fund our medical costs for adoptable pets they save from the kill shelters that's would have been euthanized otherwise because of needing special medical attention. They have many of the ones that no one else will. It will also help with their spay/neuter surgeries to cut down on the staggering pet overpopulation. Click anywhere in this paragraph to go to Facebook.com and like the Petco Foundation page. I'll take you right to the Brookes Legacy page. Please vote every day through noon EDT October 5, 2012.  You can also like the Brookes Legacy Animal Rescue's page on Facebook and follow the links there.

  2. I can't imagine never rolling on my back! All of us do it, even Boodie, who is the resident shy, once-semi-feral cat. In fact, she is frequently supine! My human can poke me and I will automatically roll over. I wonder why you have such a phobia about it. I suppose you won't be giving up that info!

  3. Awww, how cool that you got comfortable enough to show your belly! That's a HUGE step! I hope you do it again soon!

  4. Good for you, CK....I bet Pops LOVED seeing you like that. They say it's a true sign of trust. I think you'll find you can get ANYTHING you want by playing that cute card.

I didn't do it much in my younger years, but now that I have Gloman and Glogirly properly trained, I give them the belly pretty regularly. I DO NOT however, allow these events to be documented photographically.

    xo Katie

Thanks for the reminder on Brookes Legacy...off to vote!

  7. Darling, I KNEW we were simpatico before, but now it is cemented. Spitty don't roll on his back for NOBODY!! The Human has seen the Royal Tum a time or two but only as it flashed past when I flipped over suddenly, or VERY VERY VERY rarely when I am so deeply asleep I actually appear to be deceased. Heh heh. Sometimes she actually tries to wake me from that kind of stupor--soooooo annoying. I have never been abused, but I see no good reason to put myself in such a vulnerable position when I don't have to, right?

  8. It's ok, CK. Showin your bellah to the peeps means you are totally at ease. All of us had terrible starts in life, too. Precious is the only one of us now that doesn' t show her bellah. (but we've caught her at it behind closed doors!)

  9. That is an interesting thought. I think we all roll over on our back except maybe Little Bit who as a hip issue. I rarely see like the wild Momma kitty roll over but I rarely see her lying down. So it must be a thing about trust. Hope all of you have a great day.

  12. I don't roll on my back much either, CK. The mom is always so thrilled when I show my tummy. The humans really like that stuff.

  13. CK, I know what you mean. I rarely let anyone touch my tummy and will usually nip at any hand foolish enough to try.

  15. We all know gray kitties are superior, Keisha. Cute, mischievous, smart, noble.... of course, I could be a little prejudiced.

  16. Now, now CK, my little darling, Come a bit closer and let me groom your sweet little face and wash your tender ears as I explain to you that Spitty has special places in his flinty little heart for each of his favorite LadyCats.

In fact, just this morning I have been gazing with amorous fascination at that lovely picture just above ^^^ where you reveal a glimpse of that secret little furry bikini you wear so fetchingly.

There are MANY nights in a year, my darling, and I would love nothing better than to make plans for a special New Jersey visit--perhaps a trip down Alley Cat Lane? Or a midnight dance on Tony Soprano's grave? Or you can come here and we could take a late-night ferry to Alcatraz or explore the fishing boats at Fisherman's Wharf--there are sure to be a few wharf rats if nothing else. C'mon--it'll be fun!

    XOXOXO

  22. yeowsie meowsie Keisha!! I NEVER knew you had that way cool little bikini! I only have two diamonds on my tummy. And I do roll on my back...to play, sleep and be coy with Mom when she sings...but I don't allow touching hardly ever ever...except Mom just a few quick times. i do wonder if you might have a very sensitive spine..from being hurt...just a thought. I am so appreciative you referenced me...I hope we can keep track of each other over time and how we both change...or don't...but we are both safe and cared for and know compassion..and yes, love. paw hugs, Savvy
