Pink Pussy Hat Boutique

Pink Pussy Hat Boutique

When TW was younger and had money to burn, she used to make weekly trips down to the West Village. She'd get off the A train at West 4th Street. Her first stop was always her friend's record shop at 4th and Cornelia Street, where she could kill an afternoon talking, listening to music and thumbing through their hundreds of records. On the way, she passed a place called the Pink Pussy Cat Boutique.

I wondered what kind of store would sell pink cats so she told me I was way too young to know what they really sold. She said, in fact, that they didn't sell cats at all. I was glad cos dying cats pink is not cool unless you're using Photoshop.

Pink Pussy Hat Boutique

Where is all this heading? My furrend Ducky's mom has been knitting pink pussy cat hats for any human who wants one. They are all the rage this year. To get one of her hats, you just have to donate to the soon-to-be-defunded Planned Parenthood. My peeps were gonna do that anyway—in fact TW thought Pop already had—so why not get a wonderful home-made hat in return. It's the head gear all the trendy humans are wearing to rallies and demos this year.

Planned Parenthood, contrary to what some humans think, is NOT the equal to a spay/neuter clinic. It's main job is to educate and provide counseling and alternatives for humans who may not have access to real health care. It's more like a vet clinic for humans. They offer birth control but also provide screenings for cholesterol and diabetes, physical exams for employment and sports, flu vaccines, help with quitting smoking, high blood pressure screening, tetanus vaccines and thyroid screening.

If your human is more talented than TW and they want to make their own pink pussy cat hat, you can find patterns on the Pussyhat Project site. Anyhoo, TW loves her new hat although there will be no pics of her on this blog. I can even smell Ducky on it. Thank you to Ducky and his human.

And, no, TW never stopped in that Pink Pussy Cat Boutique.

  1. Having no skills whatsoever in textiles, I am so very impressed with the work of Ducky's mom. Also, you look more stunning than stunning in pink, CK!

  2. My human gets SO upset about the misinformation that goes around about Planned Parenthood. She does not understand why people prefer believing lies to the truth.

  3. LOVE YOUR HAT! My mom is challenged when it comes to making anything that involves a needle - sewing, knitting, etc. We will have to just rely on photoshop or a store. Big Planned Parenthood supporters in our house, too

  6. That is a good job of explaining Planned Parenthood, Some people are so hard headed and tunnel visioned that they can not see the good in PP or AARP for that matter. Mom burns under the collar when people close to her are so intolerant!

  9. You make a stunning model, CK. We really like that last picture with your tongue part-way sticking out! Too cute :) I had no idea Planned Parenthood went beyond the reproductive system ... their services for that alone justifies their existence ... but becomes even more valuable for the rest of the services they provide! Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions out there and the whole thing has been politicized which means the facts are ignored for sound bites.

  11. Mom was going to know here own hat as she has the pattern, but she has no time. She is going to take Ducky up on this offer. She has always supported planned parenthood. When she was younger and couldn't afford health insurance, she went to PP every year for her exam and pap smear. Thanks for letting us know about this, C.K. 17. Hello Darling, Well, I hope your flood has come to an end by now! We saw on Facebook that your poor Humans had to fork over a bunch of green papers to make all the water go away. On the plus side, guess your snow wasn't as bad as predicted! XOXOXO See you soon???

  18. You rock that hat, CK! I'm surprised you didn't think to explain what records are. I know they're coming back in fashion. I'm all in favor of humans being spayed & neutered - in addition to all the other health services that Planned Parenthood offers to both women and men.
