Just in case you're not me, your human is gonna need some early hints since this Friday is Black Friday and Cyber Monday isn't very far behind. Lots of our humans are too lazy to go to the mall or maybe they just don't like other humans when confronted with hundreds of them in one spot so they shop online. TW used to pride herself at buying everything at brick and mortar stores but last year she got strep which meant she had to shop online.
That's why I've picked the prompt of Toys for this Music Monday. Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the holiday shopping season is in full swing so I axed that music bloggers share songs about human or animal toys that they'd have on their Christmas list if'n they were a child or cat. This month I'm the musical conductor for the Music Moves Me blog hop hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others. This means I get to be the boss and pick the prompts. I think I like it. If any of my cat furrends would like to be conductor, contact Cathy at the link above. She can make it happen.
Lene Lovich—"A New Toy." What cat doesn't want a new toy. Lene was one of the original Stiff Records artists. You might remember their slogan: If it ain't stiff it ain't worth a ____. TW used to have it on a tee shirt.
R.E.M.—"Toys in the Attic." Yeah, I know it's an Aerosmith song and they do it better but I'd better butter up TW before the holidays. The peeps like to sing Boys in the Attic. They're odd. I like my toys in the condo cos we don't have an attic.
Tom Paxton—"Marvelous Toy." I'd really love this marvelous toy cos I love when TW buys me wind-up toys. They're great to chase. They go whirr when they go and I bop them to make them stop.
Mo-Dettes—"White Mice." I have several white shmousy toys who some have lost their tails and other parts. MOL! I need some new ones that have the beans in them that rattle.
The Clash—"Tommy Gun." I know this isn't PC. The thought of even a toy gun creeps TW out. Still I'm ghetto and we need guns to survive.
Malvina Reynolds—"Little Boxes." How did you like this segue? The Clash to Granny Malvina. Bet you'll never hear it again. Cats love boxes more than what's in them most of the time. I prefer big boxes made of corrugated cardboard.
Cyrkle—"Red Rubber Ball." I love batting balls around the condo especially at 3 a.m. or when TW is eating. I'm not so sure about rubber one's though. I prefer green ones covered in felt that make lots of noise. I keep needing new ones after TW steps on and crushes the older ones.
Sorry to anyone still on the dance floor. These last three songs are slow and b-o-r-i-n-g. You can't even sing along with them. They do apply to toys on my Christmas list. #HardToFindSongsAboutSomeThings
Bruce Cockburn—"If I Had a Rocket Launcher." I love to chase after foam rockets but they don't sell them in our dollar stores anymore. TW may have to go online for these.
Nico—"Somewhere There's a Feather." I hope it's a peacock feather cos those are so much fun. They're my fave feathers. Nico became famous as a member of the Velvet Underground and here she's singing a Jackson Browne song.
R.E.M.—"Camera." TW could get me a camera and I'd let her use it to take images for this blog. Her's is a hunnert years old just like her. I'm just too #generous for my own good.
Now if we were an Amazon or Chewy affiliate, I'd have links to all these toys except maybe the gun. If you're reading this TW—oh wait you're my typist so you better be reading it—I'd also like some treats and a new blankie for my chair at the table. I'd also like to be an Amazon affiliate. Make it happen!
What do you have on your holiday wish list?
Thank you for letting me be the conductor and run the show this month. Here's a gratuitous photo of The Cat showing some love to one of the foam rockets that I received in Christmas's past.
My human is really enjoying this week's songs.
ReplyDeleteCathy/Keisha,
ReplyDeleteThanks for being this month's honorary co-hostess. I have really enjoyed your themes with this week's being my favorite - good going picking this one! ;) You picked the original 'Marvelous Toy'. I had no idea that Tom Paxton is the first to record this song and that John Denver's version is a cover until now. How cool! Your playlist has a number of new2me tunes but at least I do know a few this time. :) Have a boogietastic day and enjoy your Thanksgiving Day surrounded by those you love. Purrs and kisses, my furriend!
Well done. There's a lot of wonderful music out there today.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week. ♥
Love the song today, but mostly, I just like reading CK's commentary - MOL! What a little tuffie you are!
ReplyDeleteGreat topic! i like Peter, Paul and Mary's version of Marvelous Toy, but Tom Paxton's is great, too!

ReplyDeleteGreat choices. I knew you would get REM in there. Thank you for the kind words you left on my blog for the loss of KaTwo. XO
ReplyDeleteAwesome song choices this week, CK! Heck, all we want for Christmas is good health and happy times here at home. Happy Thanksgiving to you, TW and Pop! XO
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard the REM version of Toys in the Attic before but really like it.It's a great list with some familiar and some not so. I remember Marvelous Toy from my childhood and always sang along with it.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard the original Malvina Reynolds version of Little Boxes either but remember the Pete Seeger version well.
