Guess what? I've been neglecting the Happy Cat Happy You series or should I say TW has. They provide some quick tips for building a bond with your feline friend—or do they? These bonding tips are suggested by the humans at the Catnip Newsletter and compiled for Tufts Institute. I offer a cat's expert perspective which often differs from what a human thinks we like. This series is not sponsored by anyone except me.
Warm and Cozy is our next topic. "Position your cat's bed near a source of warmth—near a sunny window or by the fireplace or next to a heat vent. …" Nope. Nope! Stop right there!
This doesn't work for me. This is not how CK rolls. I must be a descendent of a snowshoe cat because I prefer cool to warm hence TW keeps the condo a lot cooler than she'd like. You won't find me curled up near our heat vents or laying on the counter when the dishwasher is operating. My cat beds are on Pop's bed. Up to a year or two ago, I'd pick which peep I slept with at night by their room temperatures. For some reason, TW's room is always the warmest in the summer and coldest in the winter ergo I would sleep with Pop in the summer for the cool and TW in the winter.
The one exception is in the early mornings, when I'll go on TW's windowsill and soak up the only sun puddle of the day. She loves seeing me up there—perhaps since I don't do many things that would be classified as so-called "normal" cat behavior. I also like to curl up in my igloo but I like to think that's more for the privacy and not so much for the heat.
Say what you will about me but I like to think I'm one cool kitty. This kitteh is a playa; a trend-setter. I don't follow no stinking rules.
My kitty furrends, do you prefer warmth or cool when you pick a place to nap?
I know it's been awhile so to refresh your memory, you can read my other tips too.
Tip 1 Crazy for catnip.
Tip 2 The power of petting.
Tip 3 Solitude.
Tip 4 A cat's tail as a mood barometer.
Tip 5 Scheduled play sessions.
Tip 6 Peacock feathers.
Tip 7 Head-to-tail checkups.
Tip 8 Treat you cat like a CEO.
My human wishes I liked the cold more - when I was doing cat shows, sleeping near the heat vents in winter really did a number on my coat, and it was hard for me to stay fluffy since I kept shedding.
ReplyDeleteWe have no doubt that you are one cool kitty, CK! Around here, Thimble loves her some warm sun puddles. In the winter, Thimble will also walk around hollering and making demands until someone turns a space heater on for her. Evan and Eddy, though, don't really seem to have a preference. To be honest, they're both a bit - should I say it? - clingy. Hot or cold, they'll be in whichever room their mom is. I guess those two just aren't as independent as you, CK.
ReplyDeleteI guess you are one cool kitteh. My cats definitely prefer warm over cool.
ReplyDeleteWe knew you we a cool gal, never any doubt in my mind!
ReplyDeleteCK, Chucky sleeps in the bay window in the winter, which is just about the coldest place in the house! Now that it's warm outside, he sleeps in The Hubby's basket of clean clothes, with a blanket covering like a tent. Angel moves between the double-wide scratcher/sofa and a wool sweater-covered chair. We have to make cat checks every day, to find where they are!
ReplyDeleteWe agree....you are a super COOL kitty!! We like warm snoozy spots.

You are MORE than cool, CK. I can't think of the words for it ... but then again, you render many of us speechless with your stunning-ness :) Bear's a fan of warmth, but maybe your normal temperature is on the low side for cats?

I like the cool better, after all I'm a northern BC cat. Kali on the other paw. likes heat. The more heat the better. She often lays on the heating vents in winter and in the summer crawls underneath the blanket on her bed.
ReplyDeleteMudpie likes to be warm and cozy in her kitty beds. She LOVES parking herself in front of the furnace vent in the winter. But she's also the first to be sacked out on the floor when the heat sets in yelling for the AC to go on!
ReplyDeleteSometimes Parker likes warm; sometimes she likes cool. Sometimes she likes boxes; sometimes she likes warm blankets or coats. Other times she just likes high places. Sometimes she wants to be near me; other times she just doesn't care.
ReplyDeleteYou are very cool CK. Sammy is the only one that likes to be cool, the rest want warmth.
ReplyDeleteMost of us like warm! If we get too warm; however, we'll throw ourselves down on the tile in the kitchen or bathrooms. But we can bake for hours right next to the radiator or on the catio. ReplyDeletePixie prefers warm places ; Zorro doesn't care. Purrs
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely super cool, CK. Maybe the sunshine you soak up in the morning is your supply for the day. :)
ReplyDeleteGracie and Zoe like to follow the sunpuddles around the house.
I'm all about warm! I love to lay ON the heater vent in winter.
