Hola kitties! Today is National Feral Cat Day and my good furrend June Zoolatry fixed ME up to be one of the cats representing Feral Cat Day! She knows I was and will always be now and forever feral. I am proud and honored to be sharing the role with Simon and Seal from Brian's Home and Trout Towne's own Mackerull. I'll always be true to my roots and remain at least part feral.
In August of 2001, Alley Cat Allies celebrated their 10th anniversary, and launched the first annual National Feral Cat Day to raise awareness about how to care for and prevent feral cat colonies.
National Feral Cat Day is best celebrated by educating people on the various
issues facing stray cats. Many cities catch and impound cats in shelters,
briefly attempting to get them adopted before ultimately euthanizing them.
Instead you can educate others about organizations like Alley Cat Allies, and
the Trap-Neuter-Return policy that saves the cats lives while preventing
future generations.
Unfortunately, our sister town decided last year to abandon their TNVR
(trap-neuter-vaccinate-return) program, UCAT. They've hired an organization
which isn't doing anything. Many of the feeders and trappers have continued
the practice; paying for it themselves or with gofundme contributions. If your
town/community doesn't have a TNVR program, perhaps this would be a good week
to talk to or write your mayor. This little feral ghetto kitteh thanks you.
Thank you for being an important host for this special day CK. Feral kitties deserve every bit of help they can get and we'll do so as long as we're alive.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a host CK, Mom managed to finally get some pictures of Myst, so she is guest posting on our blog to day in honor of feral cats.
ReplyDeleteGreetings CK, from a house of kitties all found in the street, or already ear-tipped, and as a feral mom's litter, (mom spayed now and fed in the yard along with Uncle Jack). Thanks to you and all others who are taking on a hosting role! The need to educate and enlighten on the issue of feral cats is vital!
ReplyDeleteThank you for spreading the word, CK. That is heartbraking about the sister town abandoning UCAT like that. Our Angel Sammy was found in a feral cat colony, and we think feral kitties ROCK.
ReplyDeleteIf you feed 'em, fix 'em!
ReplyDeleteCommunity cats need our understanding and care.
I’m sorry to hear that your sister town isn’t doing TNR anymore. But I’m glad that there are people still taking care of the ferals even if it’s on their own dime and time. ~Ernie
ReplyDeleteThank you for spreading the word about ferals. I wish every cat could have a home. XO
ReplyDeleteSupurr post, and thank mew for sharing this impawtant info!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable that they closed the organisation, CK, just like shelters, but good that there are still people out there who care about them💗Double Pawkisses for all of you🐾😽💞
ReplyDeletegood job hosting CK!! Thank you to all of you who do wonderful work with ferals!
ReplyDeleteIt is sad your sister town has stopped the TNVR programme, but I am glad there are people still helping the feral kitties.
ReplyDeleteYou sure know what you're talking about CK, having been there yourself. I think everyone who helps feral kitties is a hero.
ReplyDeleteFerals: the best of the best, and you do qualify Miss C.K. A few have filled our home and heart in times past and each has been loved fully. Happy to know you!
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about your sister town. Hopefully, they'll change their mind soon. Thanks for sharing about National Feral Cat Day!
ReplyDeleteFerals are just as beautiful-- and the love inside sometimes stays untapped because of their circumstances. You deserved to be representitive as did the other kitties on the lovely poster.
