Music Monday—It's All About the Cats

Hola kitties! It's been a hot week in our neck of the woods. OK, we don't live in the woods per se but it's still been hot. Pop worked at home Tuesday and Wednesday cos the heat index was close to a hunnert. We also had some nasty thunderstorms. I liked the music theme this week so decided to roll with it and share some tunes. I know what you're thinking—I only post like once a week and this isn't a real post. I'm a cat and I have catitude. My blog and some people like listening to some tunes.

Music Monday—It's All About the Cats

It's another Music Monday so I'm joining the Music Moves Me blog hop hosted by Curious as a Cathy and a chorus of others. August's honorary conductor is Mary of Jingle, Jangle, Jungle. She chose the theme songs/artists with animals in the title/name so as you've probably guessed it's all about the cats. There are some obvious choices here "Cats in the Cradle," "Year of the Cat," "Cat Scratch Fever," "Stray Cat Strut," "What's New Pussycat" etc. but I have faith that others will share those but maybe not since they may be sharing animals other than cats—as if there are any that matter. I'm gonna share some alternative tunes so fasten your seatbelts.

Squeeze isn't very alternative but we like them anyway. "Cool for Cats" is the title song of their second CD. Funny story time: One of TW's coworkers used to ax her every weekend which "punk" band she was going to see. One particular week TW had a laugh when she told her she was seeing Squeeze since the coworker liked oldies and Squeeze's music is retro '60s British Invasion.

Time for an R.E.M. fix. "Star Me Kitten" definitely isn't about cats and the word "star" in the title represents a certain four-letter word that kittens are too young to hear. R.E.M. also sings about other animals. "Wolves, Lower" is from their very first EP.

Here's one about big cats. The Bongos are from Hoboken and were part of the famous Maxwells' scene of the late 1970s and 1980s. Their first LP had the song "Zebra Club" but the EP "Numbers with Wings" featured "Tiger Nights."

Our last cat song is one I played all the time at Nipclub. The Cramps' "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?" is another one you may want to send the kittens out of the room during. The band also recorded songs titled "Faster Pussycat" and "Confessions of a Psycho Cat."

For my cat-named band, I passed over the Stray Cats, Polecats, Rockats, Scruffy the Cat to get to the Leopards. Those of you who can't wait for summer to end will enjoy this little ditty. Winter is indeed on the way. Soon you'll be "Dancing in the Snow."

I hope you enjoyed todays musical selections. Here's one of the playlists with cats in the title on YouTube that are different from those I shared. I'll be back when I can and it may be soon since I have a funny story to relate. Have a fun week.

  4. Good choice, CK. I had only heard of Squeeze and REM, and the REM was unavailable in my country. As it was one I didn't know, I went to You Tube to hear it.

  5. I am glad you decided to join the mewsic hop today. I had never heard Winter Is On Its Way, but I love it now. I can't wait for fall and winter, I don't like the hot weather. Nice song choices, I had no idea there were so many cat ones. XO

  8. Cathy,

Well, I can say all of your song picks are totally new-to-me and as far as hidden meanings behind song lyrics I couldn't be any more clueless, so I appreciate the education on two of your choices. I wonder if part of the reason for this is I don't understand the words sung? Hmmm, oh well...I'm glad you told me all the same. Summer is vanishing and winter will be here in a blink. As I've said several times this season, I'm doing my best to not wish my days away and to enjoy the moment. Extreme weather conditions are a bit too much for me but I'm thankful we are in a place that's tolerable. I would be totally miserably if we lived anywhere more north or south of Knoxville. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with the 4M crew. Have a blessed and boogietastic week, dearie!

  17. Ck, these are some great selections! I love how you always introduce me to music I never heard before! And I knew you'd be all about the Cat songs today! Love it!
Hey, I really dig your first three songs the best. I really adore the Squeeze's lead vocal's accent so much! Sounds very Liverpool or something, yeah? I'm just guessing...
And I know some R.E.M. but never heard this one. Thanks for the intro.
The Hoboken dudes are good too. Did you see them live back in the 70s?

I enjoyed my time here today. Thanks so much!

  18. For some reason, the first song I think of is "Kitty" by the Presidents of the United States of America {Kitty on my foot and I wanna touch it, Kitty on my foot and I wanna touch it ...} Of all the insipid and annoying songs one could have stuck in their heads - and I'm stuck with this one!

  19. All of these songs were new to me! I hope it's cooled down in your neck of the woods. Nice to have your pop at home, though!
