Does Your Cat Have Whisker Fatigue?

Does Your Cat Have Whisker Fatigue? #sponsored

The peeps have always said I’m a slow and picky eater. I take a few bites and then walk away, only to return later for a few more bites. This continues until most of my food is gone. They also say I’m messy cos I like to put my food on the floor to eat it. I’m lucky I’m an only cat or I’d wind up starving.

After ten years, I have a confession to make. I have whisker fatigue. TW has tried buying me those oblong dishes but I won’t eat out of them. What’s a cat to do?

FTC disclaimer: I received the bowl in addition to giveaway sponsorship but I received no monetary compensation in exchange for my honest review. This kitteh can’t be bought. I only review products I believe in.

Dr. Catsby’s Feline Remedies to the rescue.  I received Dr. Catsby’s Bowl for Whisker Relief to review last week. This bowl might change the way I eat from this day forward. The bowl came so nicely packaged, I had to nudge TW to open it for me. They even used tissue paper which means an added toy! I’ve got it half shredded already.

Whisker Fatigue? What’s that, CK? When our whiskers are forced into close contact with the sides of our bowls, it can get extremely painful. So painful that we don’t finish our noms.

This is what Dr. Catsby has to say about the subject:

What are the signs of Whisker Fatigue?
Does Your Cat Have Whisker Fatigue? #sponsored

Dr. Catsby’s Cat Bowl for Whisker Relief is wide but shallow for easy access to food without pulling back a cat’s whiskers and causing discomfort. The stainless steel finish is perfect for raw diets since it protects against bacteria. Since it’s not plastic it helps to prevent feline acne. It’s also dishwasher safe. Every bowl comes with a non-slip mat for stability cos who wants to chase their food bowl through the kitchen.

Here are some observations after I used the bowl for both wet food and kibble. The bowl is big enough to hold an entire 5-oz. can of stinky goodness. I’m eating a 3-oz. can in the pic below. TW noticed I still took a few bites and walked away and I continue to put food on the floor to eat it. Old habits die slow. Dr. Catsby warns that your cat’s eating habits may take time to go away. Keep using the bowl and your cat’s eating should be shipshape and tidy after a few tries.

My Gotcha Story Continues. Part Four. You can read Part One, Two and Three and enter the corresponding giveaways.

We didn’t get too many visitors over on Death Row. The warden would come in, call some numbers and those anipals would leave never to return. I listened for Tuna’s voice but didn’t hear it. Seemed like I was in there forever when the warden came in with another lady she seemed to know.

The other lady said they’d had an adoption event so she had some space for dogs and cats. I didn’t know what that meant. She picked two woofies and then came to look over the cats. I was hiding in the back of my cage. First she picked Jimmy*, a tabby who seemed to have some sort of head trauma. He ran around in circles. Then she pointed at Ashanti*, a floofy persian who was a real diva. HAH! She must have been an owner surrender cos she wouldn’t have survived a day in the street. Finally, the lady looked in my direction. “Why, this little one is gorgeous!” she cried. The warden mentioned that I was feral and that no one could get near me. “If you can get her into the carrier, she’s yours,” the warden said.

I climbed into the carrier to start my next adventure, still not knowing what became of Tuna or if I’d ever see him again.

* Jimmy and Ashanti are real cats who were in jail with me

  3. Great review, CK! Minchie has extra long whiskers and think this would be an excellent bowl for him. Hope we win one!

  4. I do the same thing with putting food outside the bowl to eat and graze over time instead of eating at once. Who knew that I had whisker fatigue! I could really use that bowl!

We can't wait to hear what happens next in your story!

    Purrs,

  5. Carmine definitely likes the shallow bowls better, too. He will eat out of the oblong ones, though. Milita will out of round or oblong bowls - as long as she has her food, she's happy.

  6. Sam always puts his food on the floor, even though he has a big bowl.

  7. I never heard of whisker fatigue. Now that I know, I'll be on the look out for the signs.
If I win the bowl, I'll take it to the PAWS shelter. With 100 cats, someone is bound to need it.

Thank goodness they managed to get you into the carrier, CK!

  15. Most of my kitties don't eat well out of bowls with high sides, and I'm sure whisker fatigue is the culprit. That being said, I love this bowl's design. Such a great idea!

  16. The bowl is beautiful, and we love the whiskers-friendly design. Our US friends are very lucky with such a pawsome giveaway ! Purrs

  21. Whisker Fatigue....I have it CK! These skinny little sensors of mine get bent everyday but this new bowl would be ever so great. Kali and I would fight over it.

We are all fascinated with your story.

  22. You were very smart to get into that carrier CK. As you know, we have a dish and love it so we won't enter so someone else can get a chance.

  23. WOW CK, I would really like one of those bowls. You described me to a T. Thanks for running the offer - very kind of you.

  24. We did not know that about whisker fatigue! Even if your cat doesn't have it, it seems like a good idea to have bowls like those. We have some that our shallower for canned food, but poor Sam's dry food dishes are pretty deep. We'll need to amend that!

  27. That's a great bowl! You know who could really use that? Cousin Shep! If we win one, we're going to give it to him, because he has big issues with whisker stress.

  28. Mommy swears I have whisker stress. We entered!

  29. I will enter too, although my Human feeds me mostly on little ceramic plates that used to be nice little Human dessert-size plates. I like to eat from them. I get a few crunchies in a very shallow little ceramic dish, but I do like the looks of the nice stainless steel ones.

I love reading your story, but some parts make me (and the Human too) feel kinda leaky. XOXOXOX

  30. Interesting ...everyone in this house, dog, cats, and humans usually eat way too fast - we tend to eat like it's our last meal around here hardly slowing down chew. However, every once in awhile Moo Shun (one of our kitties) does remove the food with her paw and eat off the floor. Perhaps, she does have whisker fatigue.

  31. That's a very cool bowl, CK. We all have the raised bowls to eat from, and we like those too.

  32. We think Socks would love that food bowl.

Did you ever see Tuna again? We are so glad you got in the carrier for the lady.

  36. You climbed into the carrier to get outta prison, CK? You were smart even as a youngster!

Those bowls are cool. We're not sure whether Zoe has whisker fatigue, or if she's just a grazer. :)

  37. Love the bowls. I need to get one for my little guy. He is always putting his food on the floor and then eating it. He does have some really long whiskers. Thanks for the giveaway CK.

  46. I would LOVE to try a Dr. Catsby’s Whisker relief bowl. I had never thought about what one of my Cats goes through, but he has all the symptoms. He is a 8 year old Snowshoe Rescue with curled whiskers. He takes a mouthful of kibble and drops it on the floor and REALLY Complains when his dish is not completely full so he can eat from the center. When he is given wet food it is only eaten at the center. He is VERY AGGRESSIVE at feeding time with my 14 years old, so I have to feed them separately and sit with her while she eats to guard her food. She is a nibbler, he is a scarfer. He is always hungry !!!!!!! He was a Rescue that I fostered, but he was a mess, so I kept him, knowing he would not survive with another family. He did not learn to clean his front paws until he was 4, then a few areas are starting to get cleaned at 8, I wash his bottom and back feet, and brush and groom him 2x a day. He just started to try to cover his litter(with the best of intentions but everything flies all over.) He will only use Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract litter, or he pee’s on the floor. Toy’s scare him so much I was concerned maybe that little bit of crossed eyed that comes from the Siamese in him was effecting his vision, but his eyes checked out great. His 2 littermates from the Foster group would harass him if he used the litterbox, or if he tried to eat(I had 5 dishes out for 3 kittens), so he was raised with my 2 older Cats. He acts like he just does not have any Cat instincts or his brain has reduced function. He does not know how to use his claws, but purrs as I trim them every 3-4 weeks. I call his my Special needs baby and love him dearly. If giving him a new bowl to eat from could ease his stress I would really love it !!! I am paying out a lot right now for my 10 year old Sheltie with liver damage, hypothyroid and a REALLY bad Anemia problem so I cannot afford a new bowl for Sir Lancelot but I would love to give him the opportunity to reduce his stress. He has to be able to lay on my chest or in my lap for 30 minutes 3x a day or he becomes aggressive to my older Cat. When all is well in his world he is a sweetie, but life seems overwhelming to him at times. I LOVE HIM DEARLY and will always protect and give him unconditional love. I compare him to a Down Syndrome or Autistic Child, God may have short circuited his brain, but I will always work with him and be sure he is loved.
